1105CatsVoting

The time has come.  All the coolest cats have voted or are voting and not it’s time for the results.  I’m trying something unusual.  As the night progresses I’ll be adding to this article with news, observations and expressions of joy and/or grief.  I’ll update the articles time with each iteration, and I’ll try to answer any comments that may be left.  It should work, but I’m pushing the limits of my system.  Here we go.

4:05

Terrible news.  Bought Bitch Mitch won.

5:19

Republican Shelly Moore Capito picked up a Senate seat in WV, but that was already a given.

Democrat Tom Wolfe defeated Tom Corbett to become PA Governor.  Beating that racist Bagger is huge.

5:35

More bad news.  Republican Tom Cotton picked up Mark Pryor’s Senate seat in AR.  The Republicans also picked up the governorship there.

To date Republicans are +3 in the Senate and even in the state houses.

7:30

I have more bad news.  Republican Steve Dains and Corey Gardner picked u Senate seats in Montana anc Colorado.  Republicans are +5.  One more and it’s theirs.

8:53

More bad news.  Fitzwalkerstan still has a Fartfuhrer.  Republicans have taken the Senate and Joni Pig Nuts out them over the top.  There is no good news.  I’m going to sign off now.  I need to go throw up.  Good night.

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 185.  I’m waiting for Store to Door to deliver groceries, and then I need to prepare my materials for tomorrow’s prison volunteer day.  Tomorrow is also a high Holy Day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  My Broncos are at home in the nationally televised Thursday night worship with San Diego, and I’ll be in prison, far from a TV.  When I return home and find out what happened, I’ll have to do penance.  It would be nice to have to say 515 Hail Peytons.  I hope to get articles prepared before I leave, to crash when I get home, and to post them when I wake up.  We’ll see.  However, I will probably have only a Personal Update on Saturday.

Late (early) Update:  I crashed at the keyboard, before I ran out of work, and I just woke up. 🙁

Condolences to Canada over your terrorist attacks by extreme conservative pseudo-Muslims.  Extreme conservative pseudo-Christians, like the the Theocon wing of the US Republican Party, would have us react out of hatred.  Do not follow their lead.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:02 (average 5:23).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: Could you imagine what it must feel like to be the one on whose shoulders the language of your people depends?

Major Kudos to Marie. We have already trashed so much native culture irretrievably, that whatever can yet be preserved needs to be.

From The New Yorker: A controversial new bill in the Texas House of Representatives would require those running for governor to show proof of the minimum I.Q. necessary to perform the duties of the office.

If the bill were to become law, every politician in Texas with gubernatorial ambitions would be issued an I.D. card featuring his or her photo, current address, and performance on a state-administered I.Q. test.

Andy has to be mistaken. Didn’t they outlaw IQ there? Don’t they already arrest anything brighter than a turnip? Won’t the RNC just issue fake ID’s to Republicans?

From Daily Kos: It was one of the great unanswered questions of the 2014 campaign: How in the world would the uninspiring Mitch McConnell build "enthusiastic" crowds to bring his campaign across the finish line?

Now we know the answer—with a checkbook.

McConnell will pay expenses in return for ‘enthusiasm’ at events

The Kentucky Republican Party is offering volunteers all-expenses-paid trips to join Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) campaign bus tour and "contribute to an enthusiastic atmosphere" at his events.

In exchange for transportation, meals, and lodging, the state GOP expects the lucky few chosen for the ride to "join local supporters in contributing to an enthusiastic atmosphere at each of his events."

I’d be overjoyed to attend a campaign event for Bought Bitch Mitch, and nobody would have to pay me to feign enthusiasm. Please pass the rotten eggs!!!

Now they’re campaigning to make it three times.

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 180, and this is my only article.  Street noise last night was far worse than normal, as street sweepers took advantage of the rain and the neighborhood became an ambulance zone.  I finally slept for around four hours, cutting into my research and writing time, and I need to sleep more.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:06 (average 4:56).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Tales:

From The New Yorker: There is a deep-seated fear among some Americans that an Ebola outbreak could make the country turn to science.

In interviews conducted across the nation, leading anti-science activists expressed their concern that the American people, wracked with anxiety over the possible spread of the virus, might desperately look to science to save the day.

“It’s a very human reaction,” said Harland Dorrinson, a prominent anti-science activist from Springfield, Missouri. “If you put them under enough stress, perfectly rational people will panic and start believing in science.”

Additionally, he worries about a “slippery slope” situation, “in which a belief in science leads to a belief in math, which in turn fosters a dangerous dependence on facts.”

Andy has explained why Republicans want to substitute a travel ban dealing with the problem.

From Daily Kos: The Arkansas Supreme Court confirmed the decision of an appeals court Wednesday and overturned the state’s strict voter ID law on a 7-0 vote. Since the grounds for reversal related solely to a violation of the Arkansas Constitution, chances are the decision will not be subject to review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

That’s one more state that will be harder for Republicans to steal.

From Upworthy: \They Were Shooting A Beautiful Video From Space. Then They Sped It Up. Just WOW.

I’ll second that. WOW!

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 162It’s a busy week.  Today my helper friend is coming to help finish the major cleaning.  Tomorrow, I order groceries.  Wednesday is grocery delivery day, and Thursday, I have a doctor’s appointment with a complete blood workup.  That means fasting and all day waiting for Lift vans.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:57 (average 4:43).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: One nominee proposed reclassifying single parenthood as child abuse. Another suggested that four “blood moons” would herald “world-changing, shaking-type events” and said Islam was not a religion but a “complete geopolitical structure” unworthy of tax exemption. Still another labeled Hillary Rodham Clinton “the Antichrist.”

Congressional Republicans successfully ended their primary season with minimal damage, but in at least a dozen safe or largely safe Republican House districts where more mild-mannered Republicans are exiting, their likely replacements will pull the party to the right, a move likely to increase division in an already polarized Congress.

I predict an increase in the level of Republican criminal sedition in 2015.

Neither should we appease the Republican Party, which is just as dangerous.

I’m writ5ing for tomorrow, day 145.  It’s late in the day.  After doing my research early this morning, I scheduled routine medical appointments through the middle of next month, cooked and cleaned, and took a cat nap.  Tomorrow I have some errands to run in the morning, but they should not interfere with blogging.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:40 (average 4:30).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: There is a diary on the Rec List about a Wall Street Journal article detailing how those making $400,000/year can still feel like they are “just getting by”. http://www.dailykos.com/…

I am glad the WSJ is giving comfort to its target audience, reassuring those well within the 1% of annual income that it is okay if they feel they are struggling to get by. The purpose, IMO, is to assuage any potential feelings their readers might have toward those with less, because they, the members of the 1%, have it rough as well, so that the 1% can be justified in their dissatisfaction with how little they have.

Of course, what the article actually does is prove to us, those who are way down the income scale from these 1%ers, how little the WSJ actually cares about the vast majority of this country, and how as a newspaper its editorial purpose is to be a fluffer to the 1% and keep them insulated from the realities that most people in the country live with every minute of every day.

But the corollary story that the WSJ won’t touch is this: if it families making $400,000/yr are feeling like they are struggling, then how must 150 million people getting by on less than $50,000/yr feel? Where is the WSJ chart showing us the typical distribution of expenses for a family making less than $50 grand a year? Show us that chart WSJ, and then explain to us, since you advocate for cutting all programs that benefit or help support these people, exactly where the fat is in their budgets?

Is anyone surprised? Didn’t we all know that, when Murdoch took over, the WSJ would become the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Print?

From Upworthy: Just so we’re clear, alcohol and tobacco, which kill thousands of people every year? Legal. Marijuana, which has never killed a single person ever in recorded human history? Illegal. OK then.

Personally, I quit smoking the stuff over 30 years ago, but I have no objection to those who choose to smoke it. Smoking InsaniTEA, on the other hand, is hazardous to your nation.

From YouTube: How catnip gets cats high

See? Humans have pot, but we have our nip!!

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 132.  I don’t feel well, and I just can’t seem to wake up today, so I need to stay down.  This is tomorrow’s only article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:34 (average 5:43).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: I can’t wait until we’re ready to push the national conversation around bullying beyond "stop being mean" and into the realm of "actually proactively be nice." Wouldn’t that be great? "Do no harm" is a good, bare-minimum message for the cool kids to hear, but "go out of your way to make others smile" is an even better one. It’s so great to see a bunch of football players who already get it.

Color those kids too cool for school!! Major Kudos!

From NY Times: Six years after being struck by economic crisis, Europe is facing a fresh downturn, with few new ideas on the table for reigniting growth and deepening political divisions over the austerity policies that many blame for worsening the malaise.

If I had a nickel for every time I said that austerity would screw Europe, I’d almost be a Bankster!

From TPM: Herman Cain took the conservative rhetoric of "impeachment bait" to the next level on Thursday by theorizing that President Obama is actually trying to get impeached in order to "laugh at the Republicans."

Herman "9-9-9" Cain is crazy. Does he actually think we need an excuse to laugh at the Republicans?!!?

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 121.  My COPD is still seasonally severe.  I’m feeling quite tired, after having to work through some issues with MS Update, cleaning the kitchen area, and vacuuming.  Now I’m waiting for Store to Door to arrive with groceries, which I have to put away.  Since I’m already running on fumes, this is tomorrow’s only article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:55 (average 5:02:).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: After the Safe Carry Protection Act passed in Georgia, many of us made the sarcastic remark, "What could possibly go wrong?’ Well, Saturday night something did. In the picturesque tourist town of Helen in the North Georgia mountains, a woman died as the result of a stray bullet which had already penetrated the shooter’s hand as he stood outside a bar across the street from her.

The German Alpine themed small town hosts many bars and is a popular tourist destination. The streets can be crowded on weekends and during the yearly Oktoberfest celebrations. Drinking is one popular pastime and set the scene for Saturday’s tragedy.

The shooter is a 53 year old man with a previous drunk driving conviction in 1999. He was outside a bar when the shooting occurred. He was found sitting on a bench with his injured hand. The woman his bullet found lay on the sidewalk across the street, dead at the scene, surrounded by family and friends, some of them children.

It’s bad enough when Gunny Boo Boo and his Republican Ammosexuals shoot themselves and each other. This is thoroughly unacceptable. Charge the Republican Party with Manslaughter.

From The New Yorker: Lashing out at what he called the “Soviet-style” tactics of the indictments against him, Texas Governor Rick Perry said on Tuesday that the government had “grossly overstepped its traditional role of mandating transvaginal ultrasounds.”

Speaking to supporters in Austin, Perry blasted the indictments and called for a return to an era of limited government that focusses on requiring gynecological procedures.

“We are living in dark days indeed when the state of Texas is spending time and money probing its officials instead of its women,”…

I trust Andy would agree that Perry should be "personally" probed with a cattle prod.

From TPM: The government shutdown battles are poised to make a comeback if Republicans win control of the Senate this fall.Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) promised in no uncertain terms that he’d use must-pass spending bills to force confrontations with President Barack Obama over policy reforms if he’s elected majority leader.

First, get out the vote in Kentucky to defeat Bought Bitch Mitch. Second, get out the vote everywhere else to defeat the Republican Reich!
