Here are the results of our “Punish Refugee Abuse” Poll.  Politics Plus Polls are not scientific, because those who respond are not balanced according to demographic categories.   Therefore, we do not accurately reflect the makeup of the US population.  Nevertheless, our polls are usually factually accurate, and more often than not, they reflect thinking of the majority of those who actually do think.

I voted for “all of the above”, but realize “publicly shame them” does NOT seem possible, since this regime seems to have NO shame, among many other deficiencies! ——Also, HELLO everyone, so nice 2 see some of you here; still having a sad bc Care2—–also 45 in my state tonite—-hope there’s LOTS of protesters, great signs, etc.

Of course it has to be ALL OF THE ABOVE!

All of the above

While I agree with Gene and JD on the Gulag point, perhaps a pre-trail stay in one of the detention centres (Yuma or El Paso for example) could be accommodated — after all, they will be given due process, you know that legal right that was denied to those they detained. Of course, the main overriding point would be to vote BLUE from dog catcher on up and then hold Dems’ feet to the fire by a now politically educated and moral electorate.

Another point, since they worship at the altar of greed, perhaps all of their assets should be seized to provide some reparations for those they detained, not that this would adequate for the emotional harm the detainees suffered, but it would be a start.

I don’t know enough of the facts yet to get a feel if there were felonies committed – so I went w/ the solid fallback vote of “Vote Blue No Matter Who!”

I’m really anxious to learn more about the CBP Agents private Facebook group “I’m 10-15”.

If accurate, they better DAMN WELL be “Held Accountable” as promised.

Since the poll doesn’t let us select more than one answer and there are a couple I wouldn’t care much about, but others I do want done, I went with all of the above. Just to be clear, NO Gulags of any kind ever – if we are not better than that, we are them. Jail, hell, yes. But the word Gulag is just wrong in any context. Then, fines mean nothing to them, but jail, felony convictions and get them all out of office are really the things I want done.

If you had made it possible to respond what should we NOT do, I might have said that GOP gulags is going to far; imprisonment for felonies will accomplish the same thing with a better legal foundation. But that wasn’t a choice, and all of the rest are appropriate and necessary.

Absolutely! And we need to do our homework before we vote, especially in the primaries. We need to back Democrats who are genuine progressives, not corporate-owned fakes. We also need to get out the youth vote, and help those in marginalized communities registered – and to the polls.

I have to say it’s a mix. As we all know many are true kiss their leader’s as* types. Some are new at it and just trying to say in a good status with him. What it will all come down to is when it’s time to vote for their seats, they hopefully will be voted out of office too.

Posted by gene  June 4, 2019 at 2:39 am. From: MN (US)

It is a mix. You can’t pick just one of those because they are guilty of all them and more. Party before country is the party platform. One can only hope the American people are tired of that by 2020 because the Democrats are nearly as apathetic themselves. All talk and no action to this point but for empty threats.

I voted a mix of the above. Some undoubtedly fall into one category more than the other two, but every Republican in Congress (provisionally excepting Re. Amash at this point) has at least a little of each of those three flaws.

I am the only one, who voted with Animae.  They are just as evil as he is.  Their lack of courage and integrity stem from that condition.

I like it, but I prefer guaranteed basic income for all American households of $20,000. That would be reduced by 50% of what a household earns, so a family earning $30,000 would get a $5,000 subsidy. A family earning $40,000 would get no subsidy. RESIST!!

From Alternet: President Donald Trump knows what buttons to push when it comes firing up his far-right base, and one of them is decrying “socialism” and insisting that the Democratic Party has become fully “socialist” in its ideology. Meanwhile, the term “democratic socialism” is a badge of honor for Sen. Bernie Sanders and his ally, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York City. But context is crucial. The “socialism” that Sanders and AOC champion is really a revival of New Deal/Great Society liberalism, and while both of them are left-of-center by U.S. standards, neither would be embraced by actual Marxist-Leninists or Maoists — in fact, communist websites have attacked them for not being true leftists.

But then, neither of them have claimed to be disciples of Che Guevara or Mao Tse-Tung. What they favor is regulated capitalism with a strong social safety net, realizing that the public and private sectors both have their place. And it’s possible to favor “socialism” in the form of Social Security, Medicare, public parks, the U.S. military or public libraries while applauding the private sector when it comes to software programs, Apple products, restaurants, smartphones, Ikea furniture or hip-hop recordings. One does not rule out the other.

Here are some forms of “socialism” that are wildly popular in the United States.

1. Social Security

One of the many government programs that came out of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal, Social Security has been around since 1935. President George W. Bush proposed privatizing Social Security in the 2000s, and the idea was met with a very negative response. Public support for the program remains strong: an NPR/PBS/ Marist poll conducted in 2018 found that 60% of Americans would rather reverse the GOP’s corporate tax cuts of 2017 than see the government cut spending for Social Security. And among Democrats, that number jumps to 80%.=

There is nothing wrong with supplementing Social Security with a private-sector retirement plan such as an IRA, a pension or a 401(k). But Social Security is a form of “socialism” that most Americans still support 84 years after it was implemented.

I shared the first of five examples. Click through for the other four. Also, add Libraries, Police Departments and Fire Departments to the list. RESIST!!

I think he should be – but I’m afraid it won’t happen –

I think he should also (a) be heavily fined; and (b) serve prison time for abuse of office.

But, what can one expect when lying before Congress is becoming commonplace? If all those who’ve done so since Jan 2017 were to received any form of punishment for their lies, one might need a complete Bureau to administer the cases 🙁

Posted by Lynn Squance  May 2, 2019 at 2:28 pm. From:  BC (CA)

Impeached absolutely. The law is supposed to be impartial so the top cop, so to speak, should be impartial. Barrf is not impartial and he has lied to Congress.

Barrf should be impeached for the same reason Drumpf should be: they can’t be allowed to get away with disregarding, disrespecting and flouting the Constitution. But do I think they will be impeached? Not really, by starting the processes they will be called to take responsibility for their actions.

I think he should be. He can be indicted, investigated, whatever later, but based on what he’s done so far and his ridiculous testimony today (5/1), yes, he won’t resign so he should be impeached because this is NOT an Attorney General’s proper role nor behavior. At all.

Posted by Joanne D  May 1, 2019 at 7:22 am. From:  CO (US)

The only problem with impeachment, even with conviction, is that it only throws him out on his ear. Whereas he needs to go to prison. That’s what needs to happen, and I’m unsure whether impeachment is the way to make it happen. Or even part of the way to make it happen.

I voted “Unsure”.  While I clearly agree that Barrf deserves to be impeached, Senate Republicans will never convict him.  Therefore, I prefer an Inherent Contempt charge.  The House Sergeant at Arms could arrest Barrf and jail him in the basement until he complies.  I think the last time the House jail was used, was 1870, so it’s probably filthy and rat infested.  That’s a fit location for Barrf, but the rats may sue us.

There is a new poll up now.  Please vote.

Animae lives upside down, as her feet are anchored in the land of Oz.  She is a Buddhist, and believes in unconditional goodwill.  She is an animal lover, and is also passionate about human rights.  I thoroughly enjoy her sense of humor.  She can’t stand the evils of the Republican Reich.  Her comments are compassionate and insightful.

Not that I think Barr has integrity (I don’t) – but I think he realizes at some point the “good stuff” will eventually come out. And he doesn’t want to look too much like the slobbering sycophant he actually his.

A little something to give him a little CYA.

Everything we need. Nixon tried to hide too, a lot, but eventually all but the most highly classified information got out. This will be the same, though Congress will see more than the rest of us. “To protect the innocent” will redact some, but though it will require SCOTUS intervention, I think, we’ll see most of it. Though maybe not by the end of 2019.

We are not going to get the full report because some of it is classified. But we will get some of it. More to the point, Congress will get some of it, and what Congress gets will be more than what we get. And then there will be hearings. And then, information in it that we were not allowed to see will come out through hearings. If Congress is able to run with that, then I can live without seeing it myself.

I’ve lost all trust in any of Drumpf’s appointees, of which Barr is so obviously picked for the job of keeping anything harmful for Drumpf under cover. The way Barr’s inventing new assignments for himself leaves little doubt about his assignments.

I voted “Only what remains after Barr removes all evidence of guilt.” I certainly hope I am wrong. I can see redacting specific references for national security reasons or matters that affect ongoing investigations, but Barr should not be the sole one making that decision. Likewise it would not surprise me if nothing was made public despite what Trump says.

I voted with the majority.  The actually is not so cut and dried, but I think this answer is closest, because Barrf lied.

The new poll is up It’s a real Barrfer!

Both evil in their own nasty way; Drumpf because of his personality disorder/dementia, Pence because of his sneak-behind-your-back/push-down-your-throat religious fanaticism.

Posted by Lynn Squance  March 12, 2019 at 8:25 pm. From:  BC (CA)

Both are equally evil but in somewhat different ways. With Trump, what you see is what you get — a lying, racist, bigoted narcissist, immoral POS. Pence on the other hand is sneakier. He is a pseudo evangelical Christian who hates gays etc and thinks discrimination is just fine because his Bible says God hates gays etc. He would ram his religion down everybody else’s throat. To answer Mitch’s question: Does he live in a religiously delusional world? Absolutely!

Both are dangerous. We can see and hear what a whackjob trump is. His fanclub is terrifying. I can the new “pizzagate” will be maternity floors, OB-GYN offices and there will be no pregnant woman or gynecologist who will be safe. I hope I’m wrong.

Pence is also nuts. His born again doctrine would have women walking on their knees, fifty paces behind men.

They will have no problem seizing all property, including bank accounts, IRAs, investment portfolios, cars, homes etc. if a woman isn’t married or her father isn’t living.

They would have no problem stripping a woman of her job or her voting rights.

Rape would be normal sex.

The evangelicals think they need to “help” bring about the apocalypse because they believe the Book of Revelations and some opium induced nightmare some idiot had.

Their god doesn’t deserve a place at the religious table if he needs those nitwits to bring about anything.

So, yes, it’s pretty frightening to think that these two degenerates along with the republican party have so much power. They are all dangerous.

Posted by Mitch D.  March 1, 2019 at 11:34 am. From:  NJ (US)

Drumph is the more evil, because he enjoys hurting people, children included; because he has not got a socially redeeming bone in his fat body; it is hard to be more evil than a Malignant Narcissist, one whose personality consists of sociopathy, narcissism (of course), psychopathy,

and does virtually nothing that is not about defending the emptiness within.

Pence is more difficult to know, from my point of view, because he is much more opaque, perhaps slimy inside, I would not doubt it, but he keeps his sickness hidden, so I can not judge him with any sense of accuracy. Does he live in a religiously delusional world? Apparently. Does he try to remake the world according to his delusional take on it? Apparently, and that is dangerous, not necessarily evil. But, if he should become POTUS, we may then see the level of evil he contains.

I voted that both are equally evil, although if I had to pick one, it would be Pence, because he tries to hide his crimes while Trump brags about his.

Please vote in the new poll, even though it may be month’s before we know how accurate we are.
