In July, Politics Plus slightly down in every category, except Pages.  It’s mostly the time of year, and I’m surprised the summer doldrums missed us last month.  Here is our latest summary:

In the monthly totals, a Site is any website from which someone accessed our server, a Hit is every access attempt to our server, and a File is every access attempt to our server that returned data.  The difference between Hits and Files is from access attempts that were sent in error or damaged in transit and failed attempts by hackers, spammers, phishers, and Republicans to access the back end and take control of the site.  Any questions?

It was a toss up between corporacon and plutocon, so I went with plutocon. When I think of the Koch brothers, I think plutocon then corporacon. But they are also feeding the insantiTea and theocons . . . I believe it is called leveraging their options. And the neocons will ante up to do the plutocon’s dirty work as long as they can make money, the greedy war mongering ba*tards they are.

 

But no matter, they all will end the American empire, one way or another. Have a look at this Alternet article about the American empire that I posted on Care2.

I agree with the others that "All the above" would be my answer if it was available. Since I had to choose, Corporacon is my choice. All the biggies encompassed therein feed the rest of them and they in turn feed off the smaller groups.

They’re all bad but I went with Theocon because there is nothing more difficult, in my opinion, to deal with than someone who thinks God told him to do whatever the H it is he/she is doing. Reason does not work with people who believe their way is the only moral option available. All of the others you can bargain with at least, not easily but you can. Not religious extremists though. No give in their positions at all.

I agree it should be all of the above. I also agree with Phil and Lona the Corporacon wing is served by all the others. But the Theocons are giving a kind of halo of legitimacy to the other wings, and I think if we could get rid of that, we could get through to more ordinary people. The thing is, the whole "prosperity gospel" thing is the normal human mindset. It goes back past Calvin and the divine right of kings to prehistoric humans trying to figure out which gods or spirits to appease. Even Jesus’ disciples, when he said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, said, "Well, dang! If the rich can’t, there’s NO hope for anyone else!"

Yes, that’s it, but it sort of summarises my predicament with this poll: what’s the bloody difference? So I went along with Phil, I think Corporacon outflanks the others and in fact uses the others to its own advantage.

"All of the above" would be the most accurate answer, but lacking that choice I voted for the Corporacon wing, because that wing is the only wing served by all the others.

I was not surprised that only one other person voted for Plutocons.  The vote does reflect commonly held thinking, but in my opinion, the commonly held thinking is wrong.  Here’s why.   Neocons, the party warmongers like ChickenHawk Cheney, have little influence at present, because America is sick of their failed wars.  Theocons are the Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians.  The party caters to them, because they get out the vote, but they are stupid enough to think what they are told to think, as long as they get to force their dogma on others.  The InsaniTEA wing is dangerous, because they are frequently the tail that wags the dawg.  But they are just the storm troopers, like Hitler’s SA.  If the party achieves their goal of dictatorial control, the Tea Baggers will be victims of a Republican night of the long knives, just like the SA.  The Corporacons are powerful, but they are unable to control the party, because another group controls too many of them.  That leaves the Plutocons.  They are the super-rich, like the Koch Brothers and the Waltons, the 0.1%  They bankroll and dictate policy to Neocon groups.  they support the Theocons and the InsaniTEA wing financially and tell them what to think.  They control the Corporacons, because they fill the key executive positions.  In short, they are the ones that the Republican Party truly represents.  That makes them worst for the US.

I’m writing for tomorrow, day 102.  It will be a difficult day, because I have physical therapy during a heat wave.  It is also the day I normally spend hours collecting the data for and compiling the Monthly Report for Politics Plus to post on the second.  Because of the timing, the Monthly Report will be a day or two late, and I may have nothing at all to post on Saturday.

No Congress in US history has ever done so little.’

From TPM: Conservative rocker Ted Nugent published a lengthy and rambling rant hitting back at his critics on Wednesday, writing that the reason he’s been described as a racist is because he’s "doing God’s work."

Nugent’s comments came in a column posted [World Nut Daily delinked] on the conspiracy theory website WND, in which he reacted to the news that one of his concerts in Idaho had been canceled because of his incendiary rhetoric.

"For the lying freaks over at the Huffington Post, Moveon.org and the scammers at the Southern Poverty Law Center to go to such extremes to constantly lie about me is proof positive that I am not only on the right track doing God’s work spotlighting the current infestation of cockroaches amongst us, but that they are clearly scared to death of me and virtually incapable of debating me one on one," Nugent wrote.

Nugent was reported to have used the term "unclean vermin" when discussing the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s decision to cancel a casino concert he was supposed to perform. The tribe canceled the concert after being contacted by the Southern Poverty Law Center and made aware of some of his past remarks, including some in which he called President Obama a "subhuman mongrel" and a "chimpanzee."

From his perspective, spewing racial hatred is doing God’s work, because his God is Republican Supply-side Jesus, the exact opposite of the real Jesus.

Lynn has now won her ninth Big Mouth Award.  For over a year she has been our top commentator, and is also one of only two people, other than myself, that I have authorized to post articles here.  Lynn is a denizen of Care2, and is still a Canadian, unfortunately for the US.  I’ve said this before, but it still bears repeating.  If 10% of US citizens had half, or if half of US citizens had 10% of the knowledge of and insight into US politics that this Canadian gal regularly displays, our country would be far better off.  Congrats Lynn!  She is a treasure, whose contribution to this site cannot be overstated, but I am stating it again.

I have only one small complaint.  We are still waiting for the picture of her posing with the prize she won for posting the 50,000th comment months ago.

Please join me in congratulating her, thanking her, praising her and harassing her to send me that picture.

I voted "HORRID". While there may be minor acceptable judgements, preponderance of conservative activism is absolutely disgusting. It seems to me that SCOTUS, or should I say the SCROTUS wing of Injustices, is nothing more than a wing of the Republican/Teabagger party. I like the 3 women justices and Breyer, but I wish Justice Ginsburg were younger so that she would be around longer.

As noted, there were one or two minor things done the way I think they should have been, John Roberts siding with the four decent justices in both instances, but narrow and meaningless decisions they were. For the rest, the vast majority, this is the rottenest and in truth, corrupt Court we have ever had – corrupt comes with Thomas and Scalia out there making tons of money advertising how they will vote on various issues. Which encourages suits on those issues. Which makes them corrupt, evil and impeachable in my opinion. If the House truly wants to impeach someone it should be those two fools.

I want to qualify my vote of "horrid" by saying that it only applies to the SCROTUS Five. Unfortunately, they rule for now. Yes, there were one or two decent decisions, so minor I can’t even remember what they were. We will be decades cleaning up after these animals – and we can’t even start yet.

I’m completely prejudices of course, because the only rulings I see from this SCOTUS are the ones I get presented with on this blog, Care2, Daily Kos and such.

There were one or two surprise rulings this last term, but they were on very minor issues and didn’t stretch very far, but every other ruling I’ve heard off has been absolutely disastrous for this country.

I voted with the majority.  While there have been a couple decisions that weren’t that bad, even the “good ones” have included concealed attempts at sabotage.  A perfect exampled is deciding for the ACA, but allowing state governments to deny federally funded Medicaid to poor citizens.

Like many holidays, Independence Day has become highly commercialized, so often Independence Day Sale often comes to mind before the patriots who risked everything to stand for the ideals of representative government.  Let us take a moment to consider the document they signed on July 4, 1776.

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. These men were true patriots.  Unfortunately, there are Republican ethnic nationalists claiming the heritage of these men, and falsely calling themselves patriots.  However our founding fathers rebelled against policies imposed on them by a government in which they had no voice.  In sharp contrast today’s false patriots propose revolution and ‘Second Amendment Solutions’, because they don’t like the laws passed by their own elected representatives.  That is not patriotism.  It is sedition.

The 2014 elections are only four months away.  Republicans want to transform our nation into a totalitarian plutocracy.  They want a permanent, one-party regime in which elections exist for show only.  No lie, no trick and no crime are to heinous for them to embrace.  If nothing else, Mondays two criminal SCROTUS decisions make that fact crystal clear.  We mist get out the vote in mass!!

Our improved performance again last month was because of you.  Thank you for everything you do, here and elsewhere.

I agonized over "humanitarian aid" but voted to "do nothing" because the aid never gets to its intended destination. If help is sent at all, it should be a united effort by the UN Security Forces or NATO.

Ensure that al-Maliki is either GONE or stops his offensive sectarian regime and corruption. (I think he’s a MAJOR cause of the all the uproar)

 

The man is EVIL! No aid from us (other than to protect our people and interests) until he’s either gone … or has a "Come-to-Allah" moment. ;-

I voted troops for training. Air strikes no I don’t think so. Because after all the lives that were lost in both countries and it has come to this. Who thought that getting rid of Saddam Hussein was going to bring peace? Oh I know Bush/Cheney lol no he was a power trip and used 9/11 to get what he wanted. Now Cheney and daughter are working together to make Obama look stupid. I trust what ever President Obama decides

Humanitarian aid with the caveat that experience shows it needs to be closely monitored lest it turn into something else. "Do nothing" would be my second choice.

Humanitarian Aid only. We would brook no interference in our internal affairs and we can impose NO form of government on ANY other country, anywhere, ever. As harsh as that sounds, they have to solve this themselves, that is the only way they will ever come to a lasting peace. Provide humanitarian aid, but no more.

Humanitarian aid should be both the least and the most the US could do for the doubtless many thousands of (Shiite) refugees this war will render. After all the US is partly responsible for this mess and should feel the obligation to help individuals in their daily struggle to survive.

The result was a virtual tie between humanitarian aid and nothing.  I voted for humanitarian aid, because Republicans broke the country, when the Bush Reich invaded and tried to install a puppet regime.
