In September, Politics Plus was excessively slow in all categories.  It was so bad, I feel quite discouraged.  Here is our latest summary:

usage92014

Stats9-2014

In the monthly totals, a Site is any website from which someone accessed our server, a Hit is every access attempt to our server, and a File is every access attempt to our server that returned data.  The difference between Hits and Files is from access attempts that were sent in error or damaged in transit and failed attempts by hackers, spammers, phishers, and Republicans to access the back end and take control of the site.  Any questions?

Here is our latest Clustrmap:

Map9-2014

ClusterMaps misses a lot of, because many visits can’t be easily traced to a location.  It shows only the visits from March 2 to September 6, when it was last updated.  Therefore the map is unchanged from last month.

Here are our top five articles:

A Republican Freedom 9/24/2013 1,095
Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs 1/17/2010 717
How Republicans Support Our Troops 5/31/2011 337
A Republican Staffer Tells the Truth! 9/5/2011 308
Last Week’s Republican Lunacies 6/9/2014 251

Several years are represented here, but at least one article from last month should have made the list.

Here are our top non-blog/news referrers:

There are usually only 15, but it was so slow that everyone with only two comments was tied for 13th place.

We have 380,185 links on other websites.

Our Technorati rating no longer exists, because Technorati no longer exists as a blog rating entity.    They have left a vacuum in blog authority rating.  If you learn of someone filling that need before I do, please let me know.

As of Midnight, October 1, we have 51281 articles and 56,750 comments.

I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use as your avatar.  Whenever you comment under that email address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will become your avatar.

Perhaps where I went wrong is that I stopped promoting the blog on other sites so I could dedicate more time to Care2.  My hope was that Care2 activists would promote the site to make up the difference.  It worked for a while, but no more.  I will have to go back to doing it myself.

The 2014 elections are only five weeks.  If they take the Senate we will have two years of even worse gridlock, because they will continue to sabotage America, hoping to pre3sent themselves as saviors in 2016.  We have the votes to stop them, if they actually vote.

Please get out the vote!

Thank you for everything that you do.

Here are the results of our Obama on ISIL poll.  Politics Plus Polls are not scientific, because those who respond are not balanced according to demographic categories.   Therefore, we do not accurately reflect the makeup of the US population.  Nevertheless, our polls are often both accurate and indicative of the nation’s view.

It’s a much better plan than the ones the TeapublicanTs are proposing. MccConJob and "I have the vapors" Graham both want full-scale war. The Saudis are really leaning on them for that.

I had forgotten you did these! The U.S. has evolved into a perpetual war machine. The costs of these ugly choices could remedy so much social malfunction. I was Bin Laden who exclaimed that if they wished to bring the U.S. to it’s knees, simply hoist a flag anywhere / i.e. beheadings, attacks, suicide events / and the U.S. "leadership" would react. And it’s true. No longer able to grasp other E.U. nations to follow along, we are now a reactionary govt without full support of U.N. nations. Here at home, social ills bloat and exhaust communities going un-noticed by the larger audience because the MSM is simply a tool for the MIC and corp purchasing agenda. The truth is buried in indy, alternative media that struggles to expose the corruption that our govt has become disabled in. imo. respectfully, Tom. Good to see you!

I think this is all he can do right now. Few Americans would support another full blown war right now, with the exception of McCain, Graham, and Cheney. The Arab world needs to step up and show some accountability for their region, maybe this plan will force them to do it.

Posted by mamabear  September 16, 2014 at 5:09 pm.

A good plan. Getting everyone to work together is a sign of of great leadership and one that most would not even have guts to try. Yes a hard choice but it a wise one.

There was an answer lacking: Ineffective. I don’t think Anything will change if the people at risk don’t or can’t help themselves.

The people of Iraq didn’t overthrow Sadam, and when WE did it "for them", well, we see how that works (or NOT)..:(

Posted by gene jacobson  September 16, 2014 at 5:57 am.

I don’t like any of what is happening there and believe the nations of that region should be the ones standing up and demanding an end to the outlaw bands terrorizing the people. Given that they are not, that they prefer things the way they are that they might maintain the dispute between Shia and Sunni Islam, what the President is doing and proposing is probably the best we can do, no one in this country with sense (which excludes the Dick Cheneys of the country) is willing to go beyond this plan.

Posted by Joanne D  September 16, 2014 at 5:00 am.

Since he is getting so much criticism from all sides, it has to be at least good. Universal criticism generally only goes to perfection, but I can’t bring myself to say it is perfect. I have concerns, not the least of which is stimulated by Jon Soltz of Vote Vets, who fears we may be throwing interpreters who have worked faithfully for us under the bus.

I was split on this one.  The idealist in me wanted to vote Disastrous or Poorly conceived, because I wonder if it can possibly be effective and I worry about the slippery slope.  But the realist in me won out.  For Obama to do nothing would be political suicide for the Democratic Party, and a Republican takeover here would be far more devastating than the worst imaginable effects of his plan, the best available.

I went with "Never mind" because IMO that encompasses all the rest. Those behind "Never mind", the Kochs, have a handle on doling out the money in copious amounts to the point of obscenity, and taking in methane through Koch Industries and farting out the excess as their infectious brand of insaniTEA.

clip_image001

clip_image002

True the Kochs are not the only ones doling out the doe, but they are certainly prolific.

Posted by mamabear  September 7, 2014 at 8:05 am.

Well all the above is almost all they have been doing for yrs. But one seems to be on top of the list since 2008 and that would be InsaniTEA. I must say doing a wonderful job. After all it is the only thing they are good at. "Draining the country".:(

Posted by Patty  September 7, 2014 at 1:58 am.

I had to vote money because that is the equivalent of Koch-sucking.

"All of thew above" merely is a reflection of the attitudes of most Republican and many Democratic politicians who rush suck up the leavings and hand outs of banks, corporations and special interests in exchange for their legislative influence and votes. The old motto: ‘What’s good for GM is good for America" is so true for the politicians of today and ever so disastrously wrong for the environment and citizens of this earth.

"Never Mind!" is basically the same thing as money, since mucho moolah comes from sucking that. I tried flipping a coin between the two and it stood on edge. InsaniTEA – Republicans don’t need to know what something is to be sucking it. Nor do they need to admit where it comes from, hence also methane. I just went with all.

Posted by Arielle  September 1, 2014 at 2:35 am.

I said money, too – I’m curious to see just how much money is ever enough…. Power is in there as well. They are real vampires just sucking the power and money out of everything and anything….

Posted by gene jacobson  September 1, 2014 at 12:49 am.

Despite the total for all of the above, with which I almost went, as I thought about it, for at least 7 seconds, I realized Republicans don’t know what Insanitea is, nor Methane (if they do, they deny it) and in that case Never Mind is still Gilda Radner’s province, leaving me with the one thing I do know they care about – Money. Everything else flows from that for them. Money – theirs, ours – which they intend to make theirs and give to the 1%. The ones who will never see the pearly gates because they can’t fit through the eye of a needle. Or understand what lack of money feels like, never having the experience themselves and being completely sociopathic they have no empathy either. So, yes, Money is the root of all Republicans.

clip_image002[1]

For well over a year you’ve been asking for an ‘All of the above” choice, which I generally avoid, because they tend to stimulate knees more than brains.  So lets examine the choices.

Republican politicians suck money.  That’s a given.  They suck InsaniTEA, since nothing they do or say is sane.  They suck methane, because their heads are buried so deeply between their nether cheeks that methane is all there is to breathe. They suck Never Mind, because the Never Mind Brothers pay them so well to whore themselves to the 0.1%  I rest my case.  All of the above!!

The New Poll. is is on a serious subject.

Although she has been a daily participant here for many months, this is Joanne’s very first Big Mouth Award.  A denizen of Care2, she came to us from there.  She’s super-smart, witty a political junky and an activist for all kinds of human rights.  I have no doubt that many more such awards shall follow.  I have had occasion to correspond with her, and she faces some major issues in her life with exceptional dignity and grace.

If I had to make one criticism, I would say she needs to express more concern for voter turnout. 😉

Please join in burying her in the praise and kudos she deserves.  This place is better, because she is here.

Based on what I have seen about Ferguson, they will never find a jury to convict a white cop for killing a black man.

Posted by Jim Phillips  August 27, 2014 at 4:33 pm.

Remember the subway shooting in Oakland, CA of Oscar Grant? Former transit cop convicted in California subway shooting. Yes, Darren Wilson will do prison time for either murder, manslaughter or violating Brown’s civil rights.

Posted by Lynn Squance  August 26, 2014 at 1:16 pm.

Well isn`t it interesting that Wilson was part of a police force known for racism, so much so that the entire force was fired. That in his rookie year when he would normally be so “impressionable“. No wonder he found another home in Ferguson. The plot thickens.

Posted by Alex P.  August 22, 2014 at 8:36 am.

In a fair and just world, of course he would. However… in THIS one, the answer is almost certainly "Haha, no. Of course he won’t."

Posted by mamabear  August 21, 2014 at 2:52 am.

He will not even stand up in court and tell how he murdered a man because he was not white. Justice is a joke sometimes.

Posted by Patty  August 20, 2014 at 6:12 am.

Of course he won’t serve time. I’m sure if he is even arrested and charged, he will claim PTSD and nightmares about Black men coming after him and get off with just probation IF convicted.

Posted by Steve  August 20, 2014 at 5:28 am.

Since there are not even charges of murder against the officer yet much less a conviction your question is premature.

I believe the "award-winning" cop will not be charged – but will probably resign & move to another country very soon…

Posted by Lynn Squance  August 16, 2014 at 11:16 am.

I said ‘no’. I have lost faith in the American justice system. Look back at Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman shot the kid and walked away from it. And I am sure that there have been others. Now Michael Brown. It seems "SSDD".

I have experienced racism twice — once as a pre teen and second as a teen. The first was my maternal grandfather who grabbed me by the scruff as we walked to the corner store in a Buffalo, NY neighbourhood. "Get over here girl or the "n …rs" are going to get you." That left such an indelible mark on me that I will never forget it. I was apalled at my grandfather and never forgave him for that hateful remark. The second came when I was going out with a black student about 1970. He was from Jamaica and the cousin of my best friend. One day at school I heard a group of his "friends" (with friends like that, who needs enemies?

clip_image002[1]

talking and saying "he’s trying to see how far he can get with a little white girl". I was angry. There can be racism onall sides, however, historical evidence going back into the 1600’s, and probably before, shows that racism was and is alive and well. That should not be!

If there is any repercussion towards Wilson, I don’t think it will be more than a slap on the wrist, not even termination of employment. I hope I am wrong because racism is a cancer that too easily metastacises affecting all of society.

Seeing as the chief prosecutor of the county is one of the most livid that Nixon even brought the Highway Patrol in, and seeing as they won’t even interview eyewitnesses, even if it got to trial there would be no evidence presented to convict.

There will be grounds for a mistrial due to prosecutor bias

Posted by Dandelion  August 16, 2014 at 1:13 am.

If they have Stand Your Ground law he will most certainly get off. All someone has to do is look at you wrong and say your life felt threatened.

They have circled the wagons around their own. They "might" sacrifice him to get the spotlight off of the rest of them if the heat and attention stay on it.

But I lean more to the he’ll get away with it. Sadly in our Country the scales of justice are rigged.

Posted by gene jacobson  August 16, 2014 at 12:57 am.

Probably not. Now that they are throwing around allegations that Michael "may" have been a suspect in a minor shoplifting incident, though Wilson did NOT know that, and muddying the waters, sadly, the most that will likely happen is they may fire one racist cop – eventually.

Too many other cases like this in the past to make me think that this time common sense or justice will prevail. However, I can hope for a different outcome, can’t I?

Posted by Edie  August 15, 2014 at 4:06 pm.

Very few police officers ever serve time for murders they commit while on the job. In view of the racism apparent in that area, I doubt any jury would convict if he were even indicted.

The poll results are no surprise, but I ant5icipated a lively discussion in the comment section.  You did not disappoint. I  voted No, of course.

The new poll is a bit of humor for a time when everyone is busy with the end of summer and the beginning of school.  It has s special feature you have requested for months.

LOL!

Posted by SoINeedAName  August 2, 2014 at 3:27 pm.

Media’s endlessly claiming "False Equivalency" is their go-to mantra to excuse gridlock.

Democrats: 1+1 = 2

Repubicans: 1+1 = 4

Media: 1+1 = 3

But clearly that is NOT true, no matter how many times Chucky Todd, David Gregory, Joe Scarborough, et al try to ram it down our throats.

Pres. Obama had a great explanation.

“You’ll hear if you watch the nightly news or you read the newspapers that, well, there’s gridlock, Congress is broken, approval ratings for Congress are terrible. And there’s a tendency to say, a plague on both your houses. But the truth of the matter is that the problem in Congress is very specific. We have a group of folks in the Republican Party who have taken over who are so ideologically rigid …"

Well, 100% is included in the range "95%+" so I was fine with that. I know many people are upset that this Congress has accomplished nothing, but I am pleased with that, seeing as, with this particular Congress, if they did accomplish something, it would be hurtful. and most hurtful to those who are most vulnerable. And since the Republicans have openly stated that obstruction is their intention, it boggles my mind that anyone could fail to see that they own the gridlock.

Posted by Phil  July 31, 2014 at 7:36 pm.

Republicans own 100% of Congressional gridlock, T.C. (on the theory that, had not Republicans obstructed every piece of legislation that might cast the current administration in a favorable light, the turncoat Democrats would have voted with the herd). I’m withholding my vote until I decide if I can live with 95%+.

I fully agree with the results.  There is a new poll up,  Vote both here and in November!

I trust that you are familiar with my Republicans on Parade series, in which I have exposed over fifty of the miscreants that make the Republican Party what it has become.  I want to start a new series featuring Democrats and Progressives.  I could put people like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Jeff Merkley, Alan Grayson, or Rachel Maddow on parade, but I want to go for something more off the beaten path.  Whether or not this series succeeds is completely up to you, because I’ll need your help to do it.  You are the patriots I want to feature.

First, what is a patriot?  Tea Baggers claim to be, but they would tear down the country, making them anti-patriotic.  Some people think that patriotism is the belief that we are better than everyone else.  It is not.  That is exceptionalism.  Some people think that patriotism is supporting whatever this country does, right or wrong.  It is not.  That is nationalism.  Authentic patriots are people who love their country so much that they are willing to do whatever they can to make it better, even it that means opposing its current policies.  I want to feature you, because that’s the kind of people you are.  The reason I did not call it Democrats on Parade is to open it up to people in other countries.

I want to write, or better yet, want you to write, an article about something you are doing and how it could make things better. It could be anything from organizing a national demonstration to helping out in an old folks home, from running a candidate’s campaign to helping people register to vote, from helping clean the environment to stealth flatulence in an elevator full of Republicans.   Nothing is too big or too small.  Including a picture or video of you doing it would be ideal!

Paraded Patriots will be announced with a graphic like the one above and listed in the sidebar here at Politics Plus.

Use the contact me link in our blog roll, reply to me here, or send me a Care2 message to arrange for your participation.  I hope you will make this project a big success.
