In politics it is said, that when not fueled by hope there is a vacuum for fear to fill. Since artists turn to the muses, Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Erato, Polymnia, Ourania and Calliope we are exploring what they can offer us for inspiration to have the hope fueling politics.

"Hope is outreaching desire with expectancy of good. It is a characteristic of all living beings." Edward S. Ame  forgotten-muses-1226788

"If we expect change we must act on our hope every day until we have accomplished what we wanted." Christopher Goodman

Let us first turn to Polymnia (geometry):
Geometry Song + lyrics (video)

Now to Clio (history):

but morning comes. Keep hope alive." — Jesse Jacksonforgotten-muses-1226788

"Men and women are limited not by the place of their birth, not by the color of their skin, but by the size of their hope." — John Johnson

Let us first turn to Polymnia (it takes geometry) with Terspsichore (dance):

"Hope is the last thing ever lost."
-Italian Proverb

"Hope" is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all….”

-Emily Dickinson, c.1861

“Once you choose hope, anything's possible.”
-Christopher Reeve

Let us first turn to Calliope who might view this as her justice:
Slam dunk: Cop responds to kids 'disturbing the peace' by joining their game. (text and brief video)
http://www.upworthy.com/slam-dunk-cop-responds-to-kids-disturbing-the-peace-by-joining-their-game?c=upw1

Gives me a bit of hope, how about you (this was in FL)?

justice scales

Would Clio claim this as historic?
Lego's new minifigure may be tiny, but its impact will be huge.
http://www.upworthy.com/legos-new-minifigure-may-be-tiny-but-its-impact-will-be-huge?c=upw1

And another company doing something right:
For parents of kids with special needs, Target's newest shopping cart is a game-changer.
http://www.upworthy.com/for-parents-of-kids-with-special-needs-targets-newest-shopping-cart-is-a-game-changer

Erato (love) would claim this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PL_W1Mq2lh4460rq1722xN9SvNybst52Cb&v=xspIHgrL-vY

Isn't this how it is supposed to be?

Calliope (multiple justices) would surely claim this one:
Her dad thought her clean energy idea was just a 'kid's project.' He was wrong. (video and text)
http://www.upworthy.com/her-dad-thought-her-clean-energy-idea-was-just-a-kids-project-he-was-wrong?c=upw1

And then to Thalia (comedy video clip that horrifies Terpsichore)
Trump Around – Donald Trump Sings! (And it's not pretty)
http://therealnews.com/t2/component/hwdvideoshare/viewvideo/80264

I want humor, but maybe not so much this reminder type, how about you?

And some Terpsichore would find delightful  (fairly short videos to make up for the earlier offense and enable recovery feel free to select types you feel an affinity with):

I’m trusting TomCat to provide you with plenty for comment from Iowa’s caucuses, and results, so these are important stories that may get less attention than on other days.

Social Security would have all the money it needs were there greater income equality                  justice scales
“Social Security would have all the money it needs were there greater income equality in the United States. Put differently, the majority of working people have contributed less than expected to Social Security because their earnings have not grown as quickly as the highest earning Americans or as quickly as the federal government had projected. Had people’s wages increased more evenly, Social Security would be adequately funded.”

Stunning video of the Leuser Ecosystem

“Hope is the only bee that makes honey without flowers.”
-Robert Green Ingersoll

“Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.”
-Joseph Addison

“Hope is like peace. It is not a gift from God. It is a gift only we can give one another.”

Let us first turn to Calliope who might view this as her justice:
In 2001, one company started hiring mostly ex-cons. 14 years later, here's how it's going.

http://www.upworthy.com/a-dad-created-an-app-to-help-his-son-with-autism-it-saved-another-childs-life?c=upw1

Clio (guitar) would sure support this one:

I don’t usually provide any commentary with my Tuesday series, yet feel I must with this set focused on some of the most vulnerable among us.

The first is on an issue I’ve followed for decades. CA has not used leaded fuel for decades yet in the early 2000’s research showed very high levels of lead in the soils of properties near freeways. Lead paint has been illegal to sell for decades, too. When freeways went in, many cities used them to partition off minority neighborhoods (not just in CA)—the homes are primarily of poor and minorities thus affected by lead where children play. Please read the details of what we apparently did to the children.

The third article includes a description of one such home—which I know myself is better than many other homes in that part of Los Angeles. Hope this helps to picture how bad it is for some in urban areas…the rest of it is also well worth reading to better understand some of how this election is viewed by others from different walks of life.

The middle one illuminates how bad a job our shredded safety is doing these days even with churches and other charitable groups doing all they can.

America's Real Criminal Element: Lead [the longer piece well worth reading to the end of its second page]
"New research finds lead is the hidden villain behind violent crime, lower IQs, and even the ADHD epidemic. And fixing the problem is a lot cheaper than doing nothing."
