Since Bought Bitch Mitch, McConJob, and Lindsey Poo all have their panties in a bunch, it must be good for America. While there are times that I have disagreed and will disagree with Hagel. I think Obama made a good choice here.

This results from infiltration of the GOP based on contributions from the same families and sources of money that financed the John Birch Society from the beginning. Birchers in the House are pursuing JBS goals and recycling JBS slogans.
This is the Birch Society, not the populist Tea Party from 2009.
Effectively, based on "Fiscal Cliff" votes and the changeover to 2013, we have three distinct caucuses in the House of Representatives:
— Regular Democrats (now 201 Members)
— Business Republicans (84 Members)
— Birch Society Republicans (150 Members)
Birchers are anti-government, anti-immigration, anti-compromise, and opposed to taxes in all forms and appearances. The Bircher billionaires’ agenda is not the mainstream Republican businessmen’s agenda.
The Koch family helped found the John Birch Society. They have financed Birchers since 1984 and remain the prime backers for these Bircher Republicans. They assure that JBS ideological slogans and xenophobic paranoia define Bircher campaigns.
I have long said that the top-down Birchers were the original source for top-down Teabuggery, because of the many absurd conspiracy theories and propensity for Koch sucking they have in common.

MoveOn — I have 3 words for this: misogynist bear scat! Who cares if Hilary Clinton doesn't wear makeup? Why is it so important that women look "just so" but men do not have to live up to the same standards? 3 words again: misogyny, double standard. Little men are afraid of the power of women. I was amused at the list of top Bircher slogans, especially the following: We Are Not Tolerant of Treason!
I find that so amusing because in my estimation, they are guilty of sedition (treason). If one of the Bircher goals is to honour the constitution, then they do a piss-poor job of it. They pervert it and their perversion means nothing to them.
Justice — Where is the justice in denying all people their rights? Where is the justice in their bigotry and discrimination?
Domestic Tranquility — They foment disagreement, division, and discrimination just to meet their own goals. How is that contributing to domestic tranquility?
General Welfare — The Birchers are anti general welfare. They do not believe in public education, medical care, helping the poor.
Liberty — Liberty extends to only themselves. They oppose democracy but cry out for democracy as long as it is their democracy and no one else's.
These Bircher's should be classified as domestic terrorists.

So LBJ declared war on poverty in 1964? Damn it's been a long war and I see no end, especially with the likes of the Birchers and GOP.
Either it's still going on, or we loat. We're so bar behind that it's hard to tell.
While there certainly are a number of things I'm not pleased about WRT the Hagel nomination, the fact that he came to realize the Iraq War was a major mistake and the fact that he will not be the "Secretary of Defense of Israel" are major positives.
Plus when it comes to the necessary cuts in defense spending (which, unlike Panetta, he's for), it'll be better those proposals come from a Repubican than a Democrat.
And bottom line – Cabinet members, unless there's an egregious fault, should always be the prerogative of the President.

Thanks for the link to Misrepresentation. It boggles my mind that more women are not raising cain over this type of malarkey. I am not sure how I feel about Hegel yet, but you may be right in your idea that Obama needs a Rep to defend him. I well remember when Johnson declared the war on poverty, the govt used an area about 30 minutes from where I live. They are still living in poverty. So much for the war! Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks, Edie. While Obama doesn't really need a Republican to defend him, one with Hegel's record will make Republicans look like fools when they accuse Obama of trying to destroy the military over defense cuts reallignment away from the cold war.
