This will be today’s only article. In a couple hours I leave for the doctor’s and will not return until mid afternoon.
A couple days ago, Nameless informed me that the upload file feature in our comment editor was not working. I had just installed a WordPress upgrade, and glitches with plugins do happen occasionally, so I followed my normal course to fix it. I deactivated and reactivated the plugin, but that did not fix the problem. So I deleted the plugin, intending to reinstall it. What I did not know is that the old plugin had a security flaw that could have allowed a hacker to get into the back end files and trash the blog. Rather than fix the plugin, the author abandoned it, pulled the download, and no longer supports it. Therefore I could not reinstall that plugin, even if I wanted to do so, which I obviously do not.
I searched for replacements for three hours yesterday and three hours today. I have only found one other plugin that allows users to edit comments, but it has a lot of compatibility issues and will not work with a rich text editor. I found a pretty full featured rich text editor, which is currently in use. It offers several editing features that are even more advanced than the old plugin. You can still embed pictures, but to do it, you will need to first upload it to a photo directory and embed it here using a link. I found nothing that allows people to delete their own comments, so that’s gone.
I’m inclined to keep it as is, but if you guys prefer, I can replace it with the plugin where you get to edit your own comments, but none of the advanced features.
What do you think?

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I would rather have the advance features. Actually, I miss the preview feature more than the edit feature. At least I don't see a preview option. Considering that your editor is better than 99% of the blogs out there, I think that the one you are currently using is great.
That's my thinking, Jerry.
I used the edit feature a lot as I often find spelling mistakes etc after submitting even though I do re-read my comments before submitting. Also I get interrupted part way through comments (one of the hazards of being full of hot air! aka gas bag!) so the edit is handy for completing comments.
Whatever works for the majority and you TC, I'll adapt.
One thing, if there is no picture upload, I imagine that everyone will miss Nameless' pictures!
Well, hopefully I can figure out the format needed to post graphics because sometimes they require <a href-"http:// … AND sometimes they're formatted as http:// … SO I'll try one of each and see which shows up: <a target="_blank" `href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2686004310082084340LDAZVp"><img src="http://inlinethumb13.webshots.com/5068/2686004310082084340S425x425Q85.jpg" alt="Billboard_Fireman_Ran-Out_Rushed-In_Rich-Tax-Cut_Laid-Off"></a> http://inlinethumb13.webshots.com/5068/2686004310082084340S425x425Q85.jpg
Nameless, This is TC. I edited this. Click the picture icon (top row, 4th from right) Put the URL in the image tab. Click the link tab. Don't put the URL again there. Target to a new window.,
Let me try again using the App provided for embedding photos …
Two notes: [1] It looks like it takes just the http:// … formatting; [2] BUT it also looks like once you include a photo in your post, you can NOT add any more text afterwards.
I did what you said AND I could see the photo in this box – so I'm not sure why it didn't show up when I click submit. But I'll try again.
Sorry …
Lynn, If we go with editing, there won't be any formattion possible to edit.
I agree about missing the Preview option. And it was always nice to go back and tweak it after it was posted, but that's a pretty rare option at most sites.
The Google Toolbar comes w/ a handy "Spell Check", so that's an easy work around. All in all, I think it'll be just fine (although I'll have to figure out about posting graphics, because different sites require different formatting.)
See today's Open Thread, Nameless.
I'm just stopping by to say HI! I hope you're feeling well, Tom.
Experimented with a graphic. Seems to work well for all you do!

Well, let me re-state that…. The graphic showed perfectly when I brought it in, but it doesn't seem to be showing now, so I guess it didn't work so well… It was a kitty rolling out a scroll that said "Thank you!" so I added the for all you do! so it would sit under the scroll in the right place. I'll bet this message isn't going to print properly, either.
Hi Caity. The embed graphic function is workiung only for administrators. I have a message pendi9ng with the author of the plugin.
Thanks!
