Mourdock Says Tax the Poor

Richard Mourdock, the Teabagger that unseated Lugar in Indiana, is turning out to be a real piece of work.  I’ve mentioned that he defines “bipartisanship” as making Democrats accept Republican positions.  Now he is equating the current tax structure as slavery and invoking the name of Abraham Lincoln to raise taxes on America’s poorest citizens.

10Tax-the-NeedyThe Republican Party’s nominee for Indiana’s U.S. Senate seat recently compared the fight over tax rates and reform to former president Abraham Lincoln’s concern over slavery, alluding to Lincoln’s famous “House Divided” speech ahead of the Civil War.

State treasurer Richard Mourdock (R) rehashed a favorite GOP talking point — that 47 percent of Americans don’t pay income taxes — at the town hall in Columbus City, Indiana, comparing those 47 percent to the Confederate states that seceded from the Union in an attempt to protect and expand slavery. Referencing Lincoln’s speech, Mourdock said that as long as nearly half of Americans don’t pay taxes, “we are a house divided” that is presumably on the point to another fight, this time between the rich and the poor…

…Watch it:

Mourdock’s ridiculous allusion to a speech referencing the spread of slavery aside, the facts he presented to town hall attendees aren’t telling the whole story. It’s true that half of Americans don’t pay federal income taxes, but they do pay state income taxes, payroll taxes (which Mourdock referenced), and a host of other taxes. Many of those 47 percent don’t pay income taxes because they don’t have income on which to pay taxes — they are students or seniors without taxable income, or they don’t make enough money to qualify for the bottom tax bracket…

This misanthrope would take from the poor to give more to the super rich.  We might call him lots of dirty names, but the most insulting is also the most appropriate.  He is a Republican.  Fortunately, there is a simple solution for him:

Joe Donnelly for Indiana

  1. At least he is showing his true colors in time to keep him out of  the Senate–JOE DONNELLY FOR INDIANA !!

  2. I hope Donnelly absolutely thrashes Murdock’s ass!!!

  3. Clearly Teabagger Mourdock is not the least familiar with the core values of Abraham Lincoln, so I’ll use Lincoln’s own words to help him out a bit.  (Lincoln sounds a great deal like one of those scary “socialist” Repubicans are always saying Obama is, doesn’t he?):

“The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot do so well, for themselves, in their separate and individual capacities.”

  4. Hard to believe that today’s Republican/Teabaggers, like Mourdock and others, are even remotely related politically to Abe Lincoln.  It never ceases to amaze me that some of the electorate are still listening to these trolls who talk about 47% of the population not paying taxes.  They are so deceptive, and nobody is challenging them!  Oh, I’d so like to go to one of these tea parties and spill. some tea!

  5. My cousin lives in South Bend and I will be urging him to vote for ➡ Joe Donnelly…

  6. Forget his illusions for a minute – the man looks like a troll!

  7. I hope he gets the pants beat off of him in November.
