I bet most of you remember that during a 2008 campaign rally for John McCain, a woman who had fallen for one of the standard GOP lies, called Obama an Arab. McCain, who had so many character defects that I nicknamed him McConJob, at least had the integrity and character to stand up against the hate speech. On the other hand, in similar incidents during events featuring Sarah Palin, aka Drill Baby Dingbat, she catered to the hate-speakers. Mitt Romney has demonstrated that he is a Palin, not a McCain.
Some of Mitt Romney’s best moments on the 2012 campaign trail have come during town hall meetings when the candidate, long criticized as too uptight on the stump, strays off script to take questions from voters.
But the freewheeling nature of voter forums can have its drawbacks. Romney has faced hostile questions on everything from his wealth to his religion. And on Monday, he experienced another awkward moment, when a supporter stood and declared that President Barack Obama should be "tried for treason."
The comment came during a town hall meeting in Cleveland. Taking the microphone, a woman told Romney that Obama had been "operating outside the structure of our Constitution." Pausing after her question, she remarked to another member of the audience, "I agree, he should be tried for treason."
Turning back to Romney, she asked what he would do to "restore balance" between the three branches of government and "restore our Constitution." She did not specify why she believed Obama should be "tried for treason"—a comment that received a huge applause from the audience. And when it was his turn to respond, Romney ignored her suggestion about "treason" and instead spoke about how he would "respect the different branches of government."… [emphasis added]

By ignoring her hate speech, Romney gave it credence. Ed Schultz covered this political atrocity and interviewed Maxine Waters and Richard Wolfe.

Romney clearly lacks both the courage and integrity to stand up to hateful lies. Therefore he also lacks the character to lead this nation.

I wrote a similar post today at my blog. “The Strange and Unnecessary Lies of Mitt Romney.” http://shar.es/2JTN3
It just seems like that man cannot tell the truth about anything. And strangely, many of his lies are so easy to check on (if the journalists are actually listening).
All politicians lie to some degree. But Romney’s are so odd. He must take Americans for fools. Come November I guess we will find out if he was right.
Long time no see, Nomad! 🙂
Your article is excellent, and I encourage others to click through to it.
I loved your piece! I have often said that he was a patholical liar. He is desperate to ascend to the “throne”.
What can I say? The man is a political chameleon. I hope enough voters recognize that simple fact by November.
I agree Ahab, even if it is insulting to lizards. 😉
Romney is diefinitely pandering to his base of the Reich-wing nuts. And, the crazier, the better.
I belong to “Dog lovers against Romney”…. 😉
Does your group discriminate against TomCats? 😉
Amen Patty!
A characteristic of an anti – social personality disorder– Lies when the truth would serve better ; //

I think he’s depending on Faux Noise to present his lies as true.
Today he is taking credit for saving General Motors. It would be comical if the possibility of his being Commander In Chief didn’t exist.
See today’s lead article that will be up within an hour.
It’s also important to remember that the most important lie he is telling is to the Far Right voters. He is attempting to portray himself as rightwing when his history suggest more centrist views. It is a big hoax being played on the Republicans who have gone nuts since the Tea Party arrived. With a voting strategy of “Anybody but Obama” they are about to make a mistake they will regret. He is counting on them being too stupid to realize that they are being sold a phony product. After voting in the most disgraceful Congress in American history, the Tea Party are now trying to vote in the most liberal Republican candidate in years. Maybe since Reagan. 🙂
I agree, but I think he’ll be a lot like Bush. Once in office he would obey the extremists like Bush obeyed Cheney.
I would not care if this man were the most liberal Democrat on the face of the earth, I would not vote for him. By flip-flopping and lying at every turn, he exhibits a profound lack of moral integrity. Not a bad looking fellow but no strength of character – and it shows.
@Nomad: Great comment. May I use it? (with credit, of course)
Leslie, moral integrity woild get any candidate drummed out of today’s Republican party.
I was finally able to get the Ed piece on MSNBC as after numerous attempts to access your’s, I gave up. The video isn’t showing even after logging out a number of times.
An excellent piece by Ed. I couldn’t agree with him more. Rmoney has dropped the ball more times than I can remember — one example was in South Carolina when he was asked a question and he came off the rails, and if I remember correctly, Nicky Haley had to steer him away before he made things worse. He twists facts to make his own version of history; he flip-flops on important issues; and he lies. He hires, based on credentials, an openly gay staffer and then caves to the fanatical right to fire the fellow, who also worked for Baby Bush if I recall. If he is going to cave like that, what will he do when challenged by the government of another nation? He’ll either cave or he’ll take up the war cry “Bomb, baby bomb!”, but he won’t negotiate. He accused Mr Obama, as many of the GOP did, of taking credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden, but then he has the audacity to claim that he was responsible for the turnaround of the automotive industry. Rmoney has no idea what it will take to be president and is totally unprepared. Maybe he figures it doesn’t matter much, after all the de facto presidents will be the Koch Brothers and other billionaires.
I’m glad you got to it, and have no idea why you have trouble here, as others seem to have none.
Willard may well be the emptiest suit I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around for awhile now. It says a lot about the Rushpubliscum Party that this clown could make it to the nomination.
Those few that might run a better race, despite their hateful positions are afraid to run against Obama.
