Not all the results in the Republican primaries and caucuses went as expected, but all the candidates were losers, because all fell short of what they needed to accomplish. Mitt Romney did the best overall, but he failed to win one in the south and close the door on Santorum. Rick Santorum had a couple of impressive wins, but to put himself into the thick of the race, he needed to win Ohio. Newt Gingrich won his home state, but he needed at least one more, Of course, the biggest loser of all is Ron Paul who still has not won a single primary or caucus.
Here are the latest results. Only Alaska remains undecided.

I’m curious, how does the turnout compare to 2008? Previous rounds have been lower for the most part but these numbers gook fairly substantial by comparison. Or is it just larger populations?
And one nit to pick, TC – you forgot to include North Dakota in your results (won by Santorum).

There is one demographic in which the turnout was up, anf thyat6 was voters from the top quintile, making $200,000 plus. They voted heavily for $Rmoney$.
Turnout is much lower in most venues than it was in 2008. This has held true across the board up to last night, so I am assuming last night’s held true as well.

Lynn If memory serves me right 2008 was a record turn out for one very important reason. President Bush. Super Tuseday came down to 2 candidates Clinton and Obama. I believe Clinton won more states but Obama won more delegates. Obama won on getting more and he sailed to victory. So it is apples and oranges here in 2012. Who ever gets the nomination In the end it is a win for Obama. If by some fluck the Republians win the white house just like TomCat says it will be a lost for the American people. I just might hitch a ride to Canada.

This couldn’t have turned out much better. With luck the Republicans will be tearing at each other for quite a while, at least partially because of these scattered primary results. Wouldn’t it be great if they went into their convention without a pre-selected candidate? It’s unlikely — Romney’s still highly likely to win enough delegates for the nomination in the primary process — but I can dream, can’t I?

Phyllis, the more people who get sick of what is coming from the Republicans, the better off America is.
Does anyone think Mittens actually has a chance to win the actual election? He might be the worst candidate of all. He’s been guilty of destroying a plethora of American corporations and taking worker pensions as personal profit; he tortured his dog for 12 hours in front of witnesses; he states he is not interested in the poor at all; he also has said that he supports Citizen’s United; he has told angry working Americans that he is “just like” them because, once, he had a job (oy vey); last week he made fun of a bunch of NASCAR fans because their raincoats weren’t expensive enough.
But the best/worst thing of all about Mittens is that he has a hobby of baptizing the dead into the Mormon faith, particularly dead Jewish people. This makes him certifiably and demonstrably insane.
But, the GOP voters will probably vote for him because he’s not Obama. Idiots.
Angelica, it depends on what day and what time of day you ask him about something because he keeps changing his answers. I heard him talk about the poor (although I could have sworn he thought of them as ‘poor bastards’ when I read his mind!) in reasonably objective terms — that’s Mr Flip-flop!
Personally I don’t think he would win against Mr Obama, but when it comes down to it, for there to be an effective working government, the Republican/Teabaggers have to be thrown out on their asses and majority Democrats in the House and Senate. That means everybody, rich/poor, black/white/pink,male/female gets out to vote for Democrats. Everybody needs to be out there. I’d be volunteering to get people to the polls but I’m a Canuck.
Angie, I agree with Lynn. It should be a turkey shoot, but we can’t afford to get complacent. Democrats are very good at shooting ourselves in the foot.
I agree with what you both are saying. I know GOP voters will vote for whoever runs against Obama, even if he is worse than Bush. We do have to get the vote out.
Does anyone know if the same attention to vote stealing will be addressed by the Dems? They sent 800 lawyers to Florida in 2008, for example, to ensure that the precincts and voting machines were run properly and all the votes were counted. I expect no less from repubs. than vote stealing. They are feeling desperate and surly.
I don’t know their plans in that regard, but they better!
The biggest loser would be if we don’t get the Kenyan fraud and his cabinet of Communists out of our government in November. I’d prefer to see Constitution Party or Libertarian Party candidates take it; I despise Santorum almost as much as Obummer, Romney and Gingrich are only slightly less disgusting, and Paul is only the least disgusting of a bunch of clowns. Neither ‘major’ party has been leading this nation since Bush SR stepped down; first a traitor and fraud made a mess, then Bush JR was too much of a blooming idiot to fix what Komrad Klinton broke, then One Big A!! Phyllis, have you heard the expression ‘in for a penny, in for a £’? Well, comparatively it isn’t that long til the election but I know it feels a long ways off. I agree with you that the Republicans are a bunch of no accounts as they try to degrade people in one way or another. I think they would lie, cheat and steal from their own mothers! But it is so important that you stand your ground against these bastards! They cannot be allowed to take over! Right now I have a fruit fly problem and every time I smack and kill one, I say “take that, you damn Republican!” and I’m a Canuck.

If I remember correctly, I think most of my predictions I made on Sunday were on base. I wonder if Newty will bow out now since, although he took Georgia, he only had 47% of the vote there and now has a total of 103 delegates. And Ron Paul hasn’t won a state yet although came 2nd in Vermont which I expected from earlier (I think Maine). Will he throw in the towel? If Paul and Newty go to the bitter end, and I think it will be bitter if neither doesn’t do any better, will there be delegate votes at the RNC where the bottom ones are forced out and throw their delegates to either of the remaining delegates? Or are they automatically forced out before then and throw their delegates to another candidate? Are those delegates that are ‘thrown’ obligated to then vote for whomever the candidate specifies? I think I read that the winning candidate has to have 1,411 delegates to win, so in any case, everybody is a long ways off, even Rmoney at 396 after last night.
I read in Huffington Post I think that there is some speculation that Sarah Palin may throw her hat in the ring. Is that possible even at this late date?
If by some fluke the Republicans get in, it will certainly be an unkind cut to the American people and the world.
My two predictions were perfect. I predicted no wins for Ron Paul. I also predicted that every Republican Primary and Caucus would be won by an asshole. I was right! 😀
