Loving others is a principal tenant of Christianity, but far to many people many people fail to realize that authentic Christianity and Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christianity are completely unrelated.  Here is an example of Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christianity in action.

14GOPjesusThinkProgress reported last week that Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal (R) was forced to apologize to First Lady Michelle Obama after forwarding an email to fellow lawmakers that called her “Mrs. YoMama” and compared her to the Grinch.

Earlier that same week, the Lawrence Journal-World was sent another email that O’Neal had forwarded to House Republicans that referred to President Obama and a Bible verse that says “Let his days be few” and calls for his children to be without a father and his wife to be widowed.

Nick Sementelli at Faith in Public Life notes that Psalm 109, which is a prayer for the death of a leader, became a popular conservative meme after Obama’s election. The “tongue-in-cheek” prayer for the president was seen on bumper stickers. The relevant part of the psalm reads:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office

May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.

May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes.

May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.

May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children.

O’Neal forwarded the prayer with his own message: “At last — I can honestly voice a Biblical prayer for our president!… [emphasis original]

I have often been accused of hating Republicans, but revealing the facts about their avowed beliefs, policies and actions is accuracy, not hatred.  Furthermore, the most harm I have ever wished on any Republican is unemployment from public office, and/or prosecution for crimes with all the rights and protections the law allows.

The People at Faith in Public Life, noted above, in an act of authentic Christianity, have a petition for Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal to resign.  I signed it and invite you to join me.

  1. I signed that petition – believe it or not it gives me pleasure to see the myths imploding just like the GOP does – nothing like the hateful myth systems (both of them – jesus freaks and jewish apartheid mongers) being exposed for what perversions they truly are!

  2. Fundamentalists vs. The compassion of Christ:

It never ceases to amaze me how devoid of comprehension of irony the fundamentalists are with their own messages of hate and divisiveness.  They are the opposite of the expression”when the world was made love.”

If Jesus came back, he’d weep to see the hatred that gets exercised n His name.

    • Angelica, Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians were around when Jesus walked the earth.  Back then they were called Pharisees and Sadducees.

  3. O’Neal is your typically ignorant, uncaring, hateful, racist conservative Kansas Republican, and his ilk have nothing whatsoever in common with true Christianity.

  4. many believers have been taught that scripture is the ultimate measure of truth, never imagining that the bible itself might come under a higher measure of truth, under the scrutiny of reason.. the books of the bible merely reflect the primitive ideas and questionable morals of the ancient people who wrote them. time and again, it orders its chosen people to massacre men, women and children.  if there is some “context” in which the owning of slaves, the slaughter of infants and the butchery of innocent women and children is justified, bible believers have yet to define what it is.  christians prefer to ignore the Old testament’s violence and instead focus their attention on the new testament. they will confidently point to the figure of jesus  as their religion’s supreme example of love, mercy and kindness, as their shining beacon of divine moral perfection-and as absolute proof of the the bible’s divine origin. Luke 12:47, Luke 12:37,  In Luke 16:13,  nowhere in the new testament does jesus speak out against the institution of slavery, which pervaded the world during his time. Instead, jesus incorporates this barbaric practice into his parables. Luke 14:26, Jesus explains to his followers that “If any man come to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. matthew 10:35 this actually appears to be jesus’ mission: “For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household.” jesus’ anti-family attitude even extends to his own mother. In John 2:4 he rebukes her, saying, “o woman, what have I to do with thee?” matthew 19:11, jesus encourages his disciples to castrate themselves: “not all men can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. for there are eunuchs who have been so from birth and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. he who is able to receive it, let him receive it.” does this make any sense? jesus continually threatens eternal torment and suffering to those who have trouble with the idea that he is the son of a god. john 15:6, john 3:18, john 3:36, luke 12:9, luke 12:5, just to name a few passages christians may want to rationalize away these and countless other passages that demonstrate the Bible’s fallibility and immorality. They may insist that the words of jesus and god that support slavery, castration, torture, murder and hate are taken out of context. The problem, however, is that believers have taken the whole bible out of context. the bible is a confused jumble of tales and fables, geneologies, poems and proverbs that were written in a time of superstition, mythology, ignorance and savagery. the early church compiled these writings, edited them and foisted them on the world as the “Word of God” to justify its own existence. knowledge is not power its empowering lets be empowered to change. life has value beyond measure.. Peace and Love

    • Thanks Michael, it seems that mankind is determined to have “reason” for this life, and in so doing resort to deifying imperfect human beings, or as in the case of the old and new testaments – creating a myth system that was/is a means to justify their own ceaseless craving for superiority and land grabbing- (land was the same as gold back then) – now it’s just political gain or “gold” – what the 99% has been so upset about – this is no more than the fruition of these myths that are solely responsible for all of the mayhem that has visited this world – at least in the western hemisphere and the middle east – we’d do far better to get rid of these books of violence – put them in archives somewhere and look at them in a future date with disbelief that humans actually were so morally corrupt and gullible as to believe these fantastical tales of mayhem and glory!

      • Lee, consider Robespierre and the reign of terror.  People of the atheist faith have a track record that is no better.

What makes religious belief is intolerance so extreme that adherents are unwilling to coexist with people who believe differently.  Look in the mirror.

    • Welcome Michael. 🙂

Most authentic Christians recognize that the Bible is partly inspired by God, partly inspired by man, and partly uninspired.

It is the pseudo-Christians that insist on worshiping the book.

  5. Ugh. There’s a fine line between poking fun at someone and being mean-spirited. That kind of fundamentalist hostility is uncalled for.

  6. Very Jesus-y, aren’t they?  I’m sure their Lord would be SO VERY PROUD of them.

    Wouldn’t he?

  7. “O’Neal is your typically ignorant, uncaring, hateful, racist conservative Kansas Republican, and his ilk have nothing whatsoever in common with true Christianity. ” Jack Jodell ,

O’Neal is a fine example of the Christian Taliban speaking– “Evil done in God’s name is still Evil “—This man speaks evil– hateful speech – in no way reflecting the ministry of  Jesus the Christ.

  8. For a moment, leave religion out of the discussion. This is no comment that should appear in a civil society, particularly from a political leader.  Having said that, a true Christian, one who follows Jesus’ teachings has only one commandment to follow: Love the Lord your God and your neighbour as yourself.  This is not loving your neighbour.  O’Neal must really hate himself.

I think if Jesus showed up at the RNC, he’d clear the temple all over again.

    Signed the petition. #20,543

  9. Spare us from these false “Christians”.

  10. I signed the petition earlier in the week.
