Nov 012011

Welcome to November.  Yesterday I ran errands, including getting a new transit pass, and worked on the blog.  I’m current on replies.  Today I will spend most of the day collecting the data that will become Wednesday’s Monthly Report.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 4:07 (average 4:52).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From MSNBC: NBC News has confirmed that one woman received a settlement from the National Restaurant Association after complaining about inappropriate sexual conduct by Herman Cain.

NBC News is not disclosing the name of the woman nor characterizing who she is.

Cain has changed stories as much as Romney has changed position.  No wonder Cain is so attracted to Clarence Thomas, the 999 of Injustices.

From BBC: The United States is cancelling funding for the UN cultural body Unesco after it voted to grant full membership to the Palestinians.

The motion was passed by a substantial majority, despite strong opposition from the United States and Israel.

A US state department spokeswoman said a payment of some $60m (£37m) due next month would not be made.

This is wrong!  Unesco is a Democratic body, not a US puppet organization, and I commend them for not bowing to US pressure.  Hillary is trying to bully like Bush.

From LA Times: Well before the first votes of the 2012 campaign are to be cast, the Commission on Presidential Debates has determined the dates and locations for general election confrontations between the major candidates.

The first of three televised debates will be on Oct. 3 at the University of Denver. A town hall meeting-style debate will be held on Oct. 16 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. The final meeting, at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., will be on Oct. 22 — just two weeks before Election Day on Nov. 6.

The vice presidential nominees will debate only once, on Oct. 11 at Centre College in Danville, Ky.

Considering that these are all over eleven months away, campaign season is too damn long!

  1. Cain — Too bad it was NBC News that did the confirming and not Cain himself.  Certainly there had to be confidentiality, especially if one of the terms was non disclosure, but there is no indication that Cain has taken responsibility, only that the National Restaurant Association settled.  And you’re right, Cain is flip flopping on several things.  Cain and Injustice, both political whores.  Either way, Cain is toast!  This isn’t a good week for the Koch Devils — a climate change report they helped pay for and Cain being exposed for sexual harrassment.  I wonder if they want a scotch straight up?

UNESCO — I heard about the US threat to UNESCO a few days ago after the US Ambassador mentioned it.  This is total bullshit!  The UNESCO Palestinian vote was a substantial majority for statehood.  So the US and Israel are going to act like little children because they didn’t get their way!  The US had committed the $60 million and should be honouring that pledge.  If Hilary is in the Bush Leagues, maybe she should be retiring.  There is no room for bullying.  Amazing, in the schools we tell kids that bullying is wrong.  But in politics, it’s right?  I don’t think so!

2012 Debates — I was just thinking the other day, ‘Can I deal with this BS for another year?’  I guess I’ll have too like eveyone else.  I just hope that voters don’t get turned off and decide not to vote (unless of course they’re Republican/Teabaggers!).

Cartoon — Excellent cartoon.  About the only way this fellow would be able to afford Batshit Bertha’s $1 tax she mentioned a few days ago, is if he went binning for empty pop cans/bottles sufficient to total a $1.

  2. 4:34 Eleven months to the real debate, that’s plenty of time for Rick Perry to sober up! 👿

  3. Herman looks like he’s heading toward that time-honored legal defense mantra:

    “I wasn’t there.”
    “If I was there, I didn’t have a gun.”
    “If I had a gun, I didn’t shoot it.”
“If I shot it, I didn’t hit anyone.”
“If I hit anyone, I didn’t mean to.”
“If I meant it, then they deserved it.”

  4. I get so upset to see Israel dictate US policy, while they practice near genocidal tactics against Palestine – granted the Palestinians have been led by a questionable character, but they voted him in because of the treatment that they were receiving from Israel, and I personally don’t blame them!! Our relationship with Israel is a “sick” one at times – I think Israel, small as it is, likes to be on “top” – we are too dependent on the political “pay” from Israel supporters here in the US – that our policy is always being created by the purse strings of corporations, Wall St and Israel – there are fat cats out there and one of the reasons we’re down in Zuccotti Park is to get the money out of politics – this is an example! Do I have to fear accusations of bigotry to make this point? I should hope not ! This is a bipartisan problem!

Nice cartoon – I think I saw him down town last week!

Tomorrow Romney holds a breakfast down the street where I live (42nd) – I’ll  be there bright and early with Moveon to protest the corporate hounds that are attending!

    • Lee, I agree.  The Israel problem is bipartisan, because pols are afraid of losing the Jewish vote.  I jus5t wist they’d listen more to J Street and less to AIPAC.

      Thanks!

      Have fun!

  5. 4:12  Close, but no cigar!  I am 98 out of 305 (321).
