Because David Wu resigned his House seat due to a personal scandal, Oregon is holding a special election for fill his seat. The primary deadline is November 8, and the general election deadline is is January 31. I call it a deadline, because in Oregon, all voting is by mail. Paper ballots minimize Republican tampering. It is a system all states would be wise to adopt.
Democratic congressional candidate Suzanne Bonamici, walking a political tightrope between business and labor, says she hasn’t decided whether to support a major free trade pact with South Korea.
Bonamici’s two major rivals in the Democratic congressional primary — state Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian and state Rep. Brad Witt — both told the Oregon AFL-CIO Tuesday they would oppose the trade pact, as well as smaller agreements with Panama and Colombia.
Bonamici refused to take a stand on the proposed trade agreements at a forum held during the labor federation’s annual convention in Eugene… [emphasis added]

It appeared to me that Bonamici was ducking the issue, because she was in a labor venue. On the other hand, both Avakian and Witt have a proven track record of labor support. I still lean toward Avakian, but I’m not yet ready to commit.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
We need another DINO in DC…vote for what’s her name.
Mark, I wouldn’t call her a DINO, bit she’s clearly less progressive than the other two.
Good luck in Oregon! We’ll be watching.
I’ll keep you posted!

I did not know that! That should be EVERY state. Plus, it would help out the Postal Service. That would make it hard for anyone to cheat! It would be more accountable than anything I’ve heard of. Thanks, TomCat! I’m looking into this!
YVW, Johnny. In 2004, Republicans registered transients, filled out their ballots for them, and traded them beer and wine for their signature on the envelope. I caught a group of them making that exchange and chased them away. But that is very small change compared to normal Republican election theft techniques.
Could it be that she is not sufficiently up to speed on the issues? I would hope that she would know where she stands before entering a race, and have the strength of character to speak her views, even if it seems awkward in the circumstances. Obviously I don’t know her, but when you make mudpies, once you’re finished, they just crumble into dust.
She’s a state Senator, so she should be. If she were not, she would have no business running for office.
