Ever since Barack Obama unveiled his proposal for the rich to pay back some of the hoards of wealth that accrued to then from years of Republican class warfare, rich Republican lawmakers and media types have enjoyed a fine vintage whine.  Foremost among them is Bill O’Lielly, famous for hate speech that encouraged the death of Dr. Ben Tiller, and subject of many retorts from progressive hero, Keith Olbermann.  O’Lielly is threatening to quit, but sadly, he is doing what he does best: lying.

Bill O’Reilly threatened to quit his show if President Obama raised his taxes.

Speaking on his Monday show, O’Reilly delivered a stinging rebuttal to Obama’s speech from earlier in the day. In that speech, Obama introduced his so-called "Buffett Rule" and said that the rich should pay more in taxes. This did not sit well with O’Reilly, who accused Obama of using misleading statistics and of endangering the business climate.

He used himself as an example, saying that he could not ensure his continued tenure on Fox News if his taxes were raised to 50 percent.

"My corporations employ scores of people," he said. "They depend on me to do what I do so they can make a nice salary. If Barack Obama begins taxing me more than 50 percent, which is very possible, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to do this. I like my job, but there comes a point when taxation becomes oppressive. Is the country really entitled to half a person’s income?"… [emphasis added]

You can vote in that poll here.  I’d pay more to lose him, but sadly, it’s time to debunk the entire thing.

O’Lielly is lying about the tax rate.  Under Obama’s proposal, O’Lielly would pay 39%, up from 35%, not 50%.  He is also lying about what he would do.  When he first joined the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, aka Faux Noise, the tax rate was 39%.  He did not hesitate and has thrived from misleading sheeple.  If his taxes are raised to what they were then, there is no reason to believe he would do anything different than what he has been doing.  He also lied that successful people could not be so under the Obama plan.  The rich kept getting richer when the top marginal tax rate was 91%.

So no matter how many of us offer to pay more, I’m afraid we’re not getting rid of him. 🙁

  1. O’Reilly says “there comes a point when taxation becomes oppressive”.  Well, yes and so does doing without jobs, food, housing and hope.  The GOP keeps chattering about class warfare.  They have that right, because if they continue their oppression, there WILL be class warfare.  There will be revolution with bloodshed in the streets.  Think back to the LA Watts riots.  While it is true that they were set off by a black man being pulled over by the police for drunken driving, subsequent investigation showed that this was simply the catalyst caused by increasing frustration from lack of jobs, poor living conditions and poverty. The GOP can continue their reckless way and will eventually reap the consequences.

  2. waaah, waaaah, waaaaaaaahhhhh Poor other “o” I feel sooooooo bad for him. He must have such a difficult time holding on to his multi-millions – those bucks are in such jeopardy – I who have nothing – on disablilty will give money to the guy on the street – but I doubt that that guy who has so much lose couldn’t possibly afford it! Waah!  and did you say he lies as well! NO!  I never heard of such a thing! During my working years – I spent 11 years working for a wealthy man who never complained about the taxes he paid – in fact he was delighted to help the country, and felt privileged to make enough to put him in a tax bracket that would help others more!!!!

  3. My bleeding heart just breaks for the whiny Bastard-

  4. How ’bout 98%, that might get him closer to a real working man’s reality in spending cash.  If  I had known that “blowhards” could make that much, I would have gotten in the “blowhard business”.  Naw, I ain’t fat and stupid enough!  Evil

  5. Has anybody read the comments under the voting section? I thought some of them were hilarious. They were defending Bill O and knocking Ed Schultz.

But 90% would pay to have him gone the way of Beck.

  6. Why that bigmothed egomaniac lying blowhard—he doesn’t give a damn about his lesser staff people!

  7. He sounds like the Louisiana Congressman who whined about only having $200,000 to feed his family and $400,000 to reinvest.  If he is serious about leaving if his taxes go up (which I seriously doubt because then he wouldn’t have a platform from which to spew his lies!), and if we, John Q Public, refused to watch Faux Noise, we just  may be able to get rid of O’Reilly.
