I have heard many ask why Barack Obama has not called Congress back from their summer recess due to the catastrophic ills Republican political strategy has visited upon this nation. Frankly, I think they are better off at home. While they are away, they cannot hurt America. More important, they need to hear what their constituents have to say. Here, another lying Republican gets an earful from his.
At a town hall last Wednesday attended by ThinkProgress, Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA) was asked why he supports the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy since America has lost millions of jobs since its passage. When Lungren deflected, saying that everyone benefits from the Bush tax cuts and that Obama supported extending them, several people began jeering him. Lungren, who at one point threatened to leave the Carmichael town hall, said he doesnβt know of any economists who support raising taxes during a recession. Ironically, that same day the National Association for Business Economics released a study showing nearly three quarters of business economists stating they support raising revenues through taxes… [emphasis added]

Hereβs the video.
One positive sign is that voters are seeing through the tired old lies Republicans keep using to provide welfare for millionaires, billionaires and corporate criminals by taking away from those who can least afford it.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
That pathetic wimp, Don Lungren, must not be much of a man to require no less than five bodyguards to defend him, in case those senior citizens and one morbidly obese man decide to ask him the difficult questions in a loud way. π
I’m with you, TomCat! Recess is a good thing, if these clowns want to hold townhall meetings, I’m all for it! I hope the President has an enjoyable vacation and comes back like gang busters, all refreshed and everything! (not holding my breath) π
Johnny, he ended his vacation to deal with Irene.
Finally, it’s THEIR turn to get yelled at! πΏ πΏ
What audacity!
Did you notice how the crowd was intelligent and not a bunch of thugs like the Tea-publicans at the town hall meetings during the Healthcare debates? The only thugs I saw were his “bodyguards”.
Patty, that says it all.
The lies are enough to gag a maggot ; Pathetic wimp— afraid one of the older folk might lay him low with the truth — 5 bodyguards- !! Paid for by the taxpayers ??!!
Yes, and isn’t it funny how those that love violence most are the biggest cowards.
Chabot in Ohio wouldn’t even let people have cell phones or cameras in HIS town hall. He confiscated them.
And you all are correct: these listeners actually wore decent clothing, spoke in complete sentences and used words of more than two syllables. These Repubs are either “learning a lot” while on vacation…or like Paul Ryan, locking the doors and hiding from people. (I wonder if the Prez had this “break” in mind….)
Hey, we’ve not heard ONE WORD from Bonehead and The Turtle in weeks…..I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. π
I think “Bonehead” is at that bar with the “Every Hour Is Happy Hour!” sign and “The Turtle” is completely retracted in his shell and probably upside down. π
And Turkey neck is with him trying to figure out how to get out of this qua π mire.
That’s quamire π oops.
Did you mean quagmire? π
LOL!
Judi, I think Agent Orange and Bought Bitch Mitch are in hiding.
Town hall meetings can get ugly, I’ve seen it. This one was respectful until Lungren didn’t like what he was hearing. The boos started and he was going to leave. I like how he asked a specific audience member at that point “Do you want to leave?” to which the man replied “No, I’ll listen. I’ve been listening for a long time.” When are the Republicans going to start listening to their constituents, I mean really listening? The Republicans are so out of touch with the mainstream that it wouldn’t surprise me if they were washed away in a tide responsible change.
Lynn, Republicans have ear$, not ears.
What is with the Republicans and their tin foil hats? Do they think that these will protect them from the microwaves bouncing around the planet? Or do they think that this is all a game? I gave up wearing paper hats when I was a kid! And I hate to tell them, but their brains, what they have left any way, are already fried so the hat won’t help. Good government is no game!
They tried to wear those three pointed “Tricorn” hats, but couldn’t remember which point goes forward. Tin foil is a lot easier for stupid people.
The tin foil hats are my addition, intended as satirical humor. The first went to Ron Paul. It grew from there.
I’m amazed at how you can turn that video into a big deal about a “Crowd Jeering Lundgren”, when in fact, the “Crowd” wasn’t jeering Lundgren at all. You hear a couple of loudmouth Lesftists in the crowd start their typical ranting over the top of Lundgren and others who were peacfully trying to ask questions, … and that’s supposed to be the crowd jeering Lundgren. What I heard were many people trying to silence the loudmouths, and the crowd reacting to the loudmouths insistance on yelling over everyone else.
How many times has that kind of stuff happened to Obama because someone doesn’t like what he says or stands for? It happens all the time in politics from both sides of the isle, so, what make this instance so important you need to blow it WAY out of context?
Don, the video speaks for itself. You are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts.
