Murdoch: FBI Joins the Fray

It was another bad day for Rupert.  He almost went to jail in the UK for refusing to appear before parliament. Unfortunately, he changed his mind.  He has assumed a victim stance.  If he thinks that will fly, he’s been feasting on his own bull.  The FBI has opened a criminal investigation, and a very shady connection with The US Chamber has surfaced.

15MurdochHatIn response to requests from members of Congress and to at least one news report, the FBI in New York opened a preliminary inquiry on Thursday into allegations that News Corp. journalists sought to gain access to the phone records of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, according to several people briefed on the matter.

The investigation is in its earliest stages, two of the people said, and its scope is not yet clear. It also is unclear whether the FBI has identified possible targets of the investigation or possible specific criminal violations.

The inquiry was prompted in part by a letter from Rep. Peter King, a Long Island Republican, to Robert Mueller III, the FBI director, in which he asked that the bureau immediately open an investigation of News Corp., citing news reports that journalists working for its subsidiary, News of the World, had tried to obtain the phone records of Sept. 11 victims through bribery and unauthorized wiretapping, the people said…

No doubt we will hear much more on this.

Keith Olbermann covered the story in two segments, continuing, like yesterday, to get input from Michael Wolff and John Dean on Countdown.

Note the nepotism. His new PR firm is his son-in law.

And the second:

The US Chamber connection is the strongest evidence that Murdoch was aware of and responsible for News Corp’s criminal activity, at least in the UK.  Why else would he be paying the Chamber to try to get the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act repealed?

  1. Will this be bye-bye Rupert?

  2. Wouldn’t surprise me if the investigations here are somewhat on the slow side. Looks like the major crimes were committed in the UK, and we’d do well not to be bossy and look like we’re trying to trump them.
But that doesn’t give Holder a pass – he can still be laying investigative groundwork here.

  3. I believe that you made a mistake Tom Cat. Don’t you mean the Chamber Of Nazi’s is trying to repeal the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act?

  4. In a perfect world, that arrogant SOB would be thrown in jail for life and Fox “News” would be disbanded or sold to Current TV for Keith Olbermann to reshape…

  5. One can only hope !

  6. …..he looks good in his metallic tri-corn hat! Kinda like Napoleon, just before exile! 😈

  7. In a way this is not the best outcome. If he survives this, and I have no doubt the old bastard will, his company will have been weeded out and he will actually gain validity. He will, no doubt, not have earned it and he will be so very much more careful from here forward.

  8. Colbert did an hilarious commentary on this. Hit the spot entirely.
