Yesterday, I got some replies on the commenting system. Most said whatever works will be fine. Administrators said they absolutely want to be able to put pictures in comments (I didn’t hear from Lynn yet, but she used to put a lot of pictures in comments when her health allowed her to be more regular, so I’ll take that as a yes on puctures.) So we have a preferred choice, which at this point is Disqus. I will be doing it in the middle of the night so there won’t be any gaps during the times people normally comment, and it will probably be Friday night, because I have something else administrative to do that needs to bedone Friday night. So I may be late in responding to comments Saturday. I will be praying hard for no glitches … and anyone is welcome to join me in that!

Short Takes
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution – Alleged ‘dead’ Georgia voters found alive and well after 2020 election
Quote – Earlier in the year, the State Election Board found evidence that Sherry Cook of Trion had submitted an absentee ballot for her husband, Donald Cook, who died several months before the election. Cook told investigators that she and her daughter had returned the ballot after Donald Cook signed it before he died, but investigators said that was impossible because the ballot wasn’t issued until after his death.
Click through for details. All of the dead voters had dies before ths ballots were issued, but it is sort f implied that the ballot of someone who dies before Election day but after voting the ballot would count, as IMO it should.
truthout – LAPD Releases Footage From Police Killing of Valentina Orellana-Peralta
Quote – Orellana-Peralta was with her mother trying on clothes in a Burlington dressing room on Thursday when she was shot and killed by an officer whose name has yet to be released by the LAPD. Police said Monday that a bullet bounced off the floor and went through the wall of the dressing room.
Click through. You’ve probably seen news of this incident – I certainly have, but this is the first I’ve seen that mentions that the occasion for which she was shopping was her Quinceañera. That’s almost like shopping for a wedding dress. Both certainly conjure up images of the potential lost by the life being taken.
emptywheel – JUDGE TIM KELLY RELEASES OPINION ON OBSTRUCTION AFFECTING AS MANY AS TWO DOZEN PROUD BOYS
Quote – Perhaps the most notable language in the opinion rejects a comparison Nordean tried to make with the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court protests. ‘Arguing that the statute invites discriminatory enforcement, Defendants repeatedly point to charging decisions and plea deals related to other January 6 defendants… and the uncharged protestors on the Capitol steps during Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings…. But neither provides evidence of vagueness. Both merely show “the Executive’s exercise of discretion over charging determinations.” … And “Supreme Court precedent teaches that the presence of enforcement discretion alone does not render a statutory scheme unconstitutionally vague.” … [And] … “As always, enforcement requires the exercise of some degree of police judgment, but, as confined, that degree of judgment here is permissible.” ‘

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Joanne – You are doing a GREAT job doing what you’re doing! HIGH FIVE!! and Thank you! Very, very much!
Cartoon: Massacre of nearly three hundred Lakota people by soldiers of the United States*wiki. A horrible, sad day that needs to be remembered.
AJ-C: Amazing that folks will forge a ballot for the count, knowing the repercussions and yes, there needs to be consequences for that.
TU: How sickening, and so, so sad. Trying on dresses for a special occasion. Depressing to say the least.
FFT: Welp…..there ya go.
TJI: “It’s a little short for even a short take … but too good to miss.”
~ Matt Kline ~ H/T Joanne D.
2. “Ted Cruz thinks he’s next in line to be the GOP Presidential nominee. He can’t even care for his dog properly. Please.” ~ George Takei
3. “Trump sues NY attorney General Letitia James in a desperate attempt to stop her deepening investigation into his tax crimes and to block her from questioning Trump under oath about his personal involvement.” ~ Occupy Democrats ~
4. “I am so tired of people running around with a mouthful of scriptures and a heart full of hate.”
~ The Other 98% ~
5. “Thanks to POTUS, millions of student borrowers will have relief as we continue to battle the pandemic. I commend his action to extend the pause on student loan repayment until May, and we will continueworking together to make a college education affordable to all. ~ Speaker Nancy Pelosi ~
Heather Cox Richardson wrote an essay on Wounded Knee which was so moving I have had to put asude to finish later
Quinceañera is so special in the Latin community, or at least in the Chicano community – I don’t know if every Spanish speaking culture has it, but I do know how important it s in those that do. It is the rite of passage of becoming an adult. It’s comparable to a bar mitzvah, ot to a high school graduation, I guess, but it’s more than those. It’s the one day in her life when a girl gets to actually feel like, and be treated like, a princess.
TJI #1 – So good to see. And I here he recently named two more to begin next year.
TJI #2 – Mitt Romney couldn’t care for his dog properly, and he got the nomination. I know, scary.
TJI #3 – Of course he doesn’t think he’ll win. He just wants to run out the clock. Tish will not fall for it.
TJI #4 – Isn’t THAT the truth! And well said.
TJI #5 – I can hardly even comprehend what a burden those loan payments must be. I have been so privileged in my educational endeavors. And I can’t help feeling that education should be as easy (financially) for everyone. (Academically is a different thing.)
Comment from Mitch –
‘Toon: HCR has devoted last night’s piece to Wounded Knee: https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/december-28-2021
AJC: So that vote was illegal, but your point is well taken.
T: I can not access their material, but the potential of any of the innocent lives lost is astounding.
E: Sounds good to me.
FFT: As per Nixon’s perspective on “It’s not a crime, unless you’re caught.” Bunch of dirtbags.
Mitch
Cartoon: Sad to think of the senseless killings that took place then. I read the story that Mitch listed. Thanks to Mitch for that,
AJC: Crazy that we have ones who do these illegal acts. I’m glad to see that they’ll be investigating and prosecuting the ones who did it.
Truthout: I had been seeing/hearing about the tragic death of 14 year old Valentina. Watching her parents speak was heartbreaking, especially her mother mentioning that when they were in the fitting room, hearing gun shots and then Valentina falling into her arms.
Food for Thought: Sneaky devils.
Glad to hear that you’re making headway with your research plus getting some responses from the ones you sent questions to. Like I mentioned yesterday, I appreciate all that you’re doing. Now you being up all night? Not good. You do need your sleep.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
Oh, don’t worry, I’ll get the sleep. It just won’t be an the normal time. Thanks for your thoughtfulness!
I wish I could be of some assistance when you introduce Disqus to PP’s system, but given the fact that we’re literally are in opposite time phases, there’s little chance of that. By the time you get down to it, Joanne, I’m probably already living in 2022. I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed, though, for what it is worth.
Cartoon: Good job, Joanne. We should never be allowed to forget these atrocities.
AJ-C: I know that every vote counts, but these petty frauds of one vote at a time are ridiculous. They should be followed up, but it is a terrible waste of time and resources.
T: This sad waste of a young life got a lot of media attention, but I imagine these killings of innocent bystanders, either by police or perpetrators, happen every day in a nation so obsessed with guns.
EW: Judges are working very hard to stay ahead of the game especially where Justice Kavanaugh is expected to have a say should this come to SCOTUS.
FFT: Only a Republican could be so stupid.
JD, thanks for all your work to keep us commenting here. The cat goddesses and I will cross our paws! I’ve seen Disqus on other sites, now I will def make an acct. AJC: Yes, wow, 4 whole fraudulent votes My dad passed away 10/21/09. He had already cast his ballot in local Nov.(Ohio)election. We were assured it was counted as valid. I taped a Biden postcard on he & mom’s tombstone. Take care, all.
I think you’ll like having an account – it’s not terribly intrusive and it lets you follow other commenters if you like the way they think … and blovk others if you really, really don’t. But WordPress says it has a way the I can make sure that people don’t have to, with what they call “gurst commenting, pretty much the way our commenting is now for most And I definitely plan to keep that featurre.
