With wars, GOP budgets, assaults on unions, nuclear catastrophes, etc., it’s getting hard to find an excuse for smile anymore. But, if you’re really desperate, just consider the Republican presidential field foe 2012. It worked for Keith Olbermann!
In the new NBC/WSJ poll [Murdoch Delinked], Mitt (yawn) Romney cleans up in a weak field, but look who comes in second.
Among Republican primary voters, Mr. Romney captured the support of 21% in a broad, nine-candidate field. Mr. Trump was tied for second with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, with 17%. House Speaker Newt Gingrich got 11%, just ahead of former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s 10%. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, considered a strong contender by political handicappers, remains largely unknown, with just 6% support. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota had 5%, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum 3%, and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour with just 1%.
Very Serious People in DC just know that Barbour is a contender. Well, it seems he’s a contender like Phil Gramm was. He can raise a boatload of money but in the end he’s a regional candidate with retail skills and nothing like what a modern national candidate requires. And Pawlenty? Not exactly catching fire. Still, Very Serious People say he’s a Very Serious Candidate.
Of course, presidential primaries are state level contests, and in IA, Bachmann and Huckabee (who likely won’t run) will do well, Romney not so much. And others of the early contests will favor the social conservatives over the Very Serious Candidates like T-Paw… [emphasis added]

Is that collection of losers worth a chuckle? I’ll say one thing. For the upcoming Republican debates, I’ll need a bigger trash can, because my old one isn’t big enough to handle barf bag overflow.
But Keith has a tremendous laugh!
Hurry back, Keith. We miss you being regular!

HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Olbermann is priceless. He’s right though—the GOP have no viable candidates. Pawlenty is an arrogant, sneaky, dishonest lying opportunist who should be banished from the race altogether!
Jack, by ‘race’ I take it you mean human? 😀
Keith is wonderful–nails the core of the ridiculous situation that exists within the Republican “party’ ? Go Keith!!
Amen, Phyllis!
I can’t wait for these debates – that Palin and Bachmann should even be considered as nominees makes me embarrassed as a woman and a US citizen. Please tie them up and gag them soon! 🙄
On the debates, Lisa, I’ll just quote myself.

Loved the video! Thanks Tom.
The debates will be a must watch just for the comedic content.
Susan Burns sounds as viable a candidate as any others the RepublicanTs have produced thus far.
Thanks Patty.
See my reply to Lisa on the debates.
She’s the best they have.
