Yesterday, I finished helping a friend get a post up at another blog, and received an email from a second cousin asking for some family info. I answered,, we had a little back and forth, and I will be scraping my memory for what I can and looking for paperwork for a while. I promise not to get overtired or frazzled doing this. I also finished the second sleeve on my crochet project, and, since I make up as I go, the last seam – all that’s left is the bottom border, which can be worked in the round.

Short Takes –

Crooks and Liars – Don’t Worry, Rachel Maddow’s Not Going Anywhere
Quote – As re-upping negotiations dragged on, sources said, she expressed interest in possibly leaving the cable channel and moving into the streaming and podcasting space, in part to have more time with her family.

The Hill – Lawsuit uses Jan. 6 to challenge secrecy of Congress
Quote – The panel ruled that the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause prohibited such lawsuits against Congress. But one of the judges, Karen LeCraft Henderson, wrote a concurring opinion in which she said, “I believe, in the right case, the application of the Speech or Debate Clause to a common law right of access claim would require careful balancing.” [Kel] McClanahan, [a lecturer at the George Washington University law school], said he saw Henderson’s opinion as an opening to raise the issues around legislative branch transparency in court.
Click through for details. The suit is not being brought by a known watchdog group like POGO or Roots Action or others, but by a “public interest law firm,” whatever that is. This could be interesting.

Law & Crime – North Carolina Court Immediately Gives Former Felons Right to Vote in ‘Historic’ Ruling Against Law with Racist Origins
Quote – “The court as of today is granting plaintiffs’ request for a preliminary injunction that prohibits the state defendants from refusing to register to vote any person on community supervision, whether a state felony conviction or a federal conviction,” Bell said during the phone call announcing the court’s history-making ruling. The text of the opinion itself was still pending as of this writing.

  1. Cartoon: Good!
C&L: Thank God. I was worried about her leaving….Love this gal.
The Hill: We’ll see where this goes. Interesting.
    FFT: Great! Good cartoon!
You have a few busy days here & there. Helping others, crocheting, and blogging. Me…fixin’ to mow, and weed. My favorite past time being outside early before it gets really hot. Well…maybe tomorrow. LOL

This just in: “Remember when Trump invited the Taliban to a secret meeting on 9-11? I do. GOP – American Taliban”. ~ Catherine Nevers ~
    2. “Maybe the media needs to ask what Trump did for 4 years to exacerbate the situation in Afghanistan and to give the Taliban every opportunity to succeed.” ~ John Pavlov ~
    3. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The Proud Boys are not welcome here. They came to Portland this  past weekend to terrorize our community w/violence. This is domestic terrorism and it must stop!
    ~ Senator Jeff Merkley ~
    4. Q – “Do you think common ground can be ever found between Trump supporters and Biden supporters? No, Biden supporters want what’s best for the country. Trump and his supporters want what’s best for Trump.” ~ Rick Steele ~
    5. “Thank you to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and every Democrat who came together to advance our ‘Build Back Better’ in the House. The House’s historic vote is a huge step forward in our work to restore America’s economy. Rebuild our infrastructure and invest in our shared future.” ~ President Joe Biden ~

    • TJI #1 – Actually, I don’t, because it was secret at the time, But by golly, I know now, and won’t forget.
TJI #2 – No point asking Trump**, you’d just get lies and spin. But asking other people … yeah, good idea.
TJI #3 – If only the Portland Police felt the same way!
TJI #4 – Good point. And for most people, there is at least one thing, however small, which might be good for the country and also good for them. But not Trump**. He’s pure evil.
TJI #5 – Dam right. And Nancy worked hard for it. Though it’s a shame that she had to, it’s good her hard work paid off.

    • TJI #4 – Who’s Rick Steele?  You sure it wasn’t Michael Steele – the former RNC Chairman who’s now a “Never-Trumper”?

  2. CARTOON

Maybe everyone knows, but it was the huge success of the Beatles and the money, through the records they sold, that generated the funds for EMI (Electronic & Musical Industries) to finance the invention of the CAT (Computerized Axial Tomography) scanner.

How the Beatles funded the CT scan
Money from the Beatles’ success convinced EMI to let one of its engineers pursue independent research. He ended up winning the Nobel prize for medicine.

  3. **Note – I just got into my personal email, and Mitch sent me an email, and requested I post this for y’all to read.
From Mitch: “Pat, this may seem weird, or not, but if it seems fitting, clarifying, please do not hesitate to put my comment into a PP commentary slot.”  (Re: The Covid Virus in Action)Mitch

“I think resistance has to do with underlying agendas people carry around.  Some people may say something like “It’s just not what I would do,” while they  harbor the belief that Jesus, or God, would protect them from it, or even with it.  Some people may “feel” that it would be giving into “Them Libruls!”  Or that  since we have much evidence of the gov’t lying us into wars, and what not, that the gov’t “must” be lying about this, as well.  Some might believe the garbage about the speed with which the vaccines were developed, and “know” that they must be bogus.  The truth is that the type of vaccines being used were being explored for many years before it became necessary to speed up the research. And then there are the folks who just “know” that F***ker Carlson, and friends would “never” lie to them.” m

    • Thank you for posting!  Always good to hear from Mitch.

Thinking that “F***ker Carlson, and friends would “never” lie to them” is pretty much the same as deifying them – so that too is a “religious” justification.   I absolutely think it’s fair to say they are a cult (and two of its doctrines are that the government – at least the “liberal” goverment – always lies, and that “Libruls” are of the devil.)

  4. In my humble and admittedly not fully informed opinion, Afghanistan was going to be a $#!+show no matter when US forces pulled out. Biden is being unfairly blamed for the mess. Who got us in there? George Dubya. Obama could have ended our engagement, but he didn’t have the b*lls. tRump could have – and claimed that he would – but apparently he had to suck up to his defense contractor masters. Biden at least had the courage to do what should have been done at least a decade ago. So what does he get? Crap stacked on him.

    • Thank you.  One doesn’t have to be a veteran to recognize thet “Afghanistan was going to be a $#!+show no matter when US forces pulled out.”  And I don’t even think one needs to be fully informed, although the more informed one is, the clearer it is.

    • I definitely agree with you Freya 100%.
President Biden came into office in January when our country was facing many different crisis. Ones that tRump left him with; Covid-19, Loss of Employment, Businesses shutting down, rent/housing issues, homelessness and the on going Afghanistan War.
I feel he’s done an excellent job with the Covid-19 vaccines becoming available for the people. Helping people with getting them.
Sending checks to help the people and businesses.
Plus now finally bringing people home from Afghanistan. A step, you pointed out,  no other president has taken in the past years.
So no matter who would of taken this step in the first place, the Taliban wasn’t going to be out to help us in any manner.
All I know now, is that I’m praying that they can get everyone, our military members, the Afghans who have helped the U.S., out safely before August 31st.

  5. Cartoon: Glad they were. I’ve had plenty of them. Thanks Nameless, it’s nice to know how they were developed.
C&L: Glad that they’re negotiating with her. Feel it would be a huge loss if they were to let her go.
The Hill: Good for them. Whatever they can do to get all of the information they need to prosecute all that were involved with the January 6 insurrection.
Food for Thought: He’s been left with it all.
You’re certainly one busy lady; helping friend create their post, helping your cousin, crocheting and keeping us informed with you two daily posts. You’re amazing, Joanne.
I started my next 12 sessions of P.T. today, then go again on Friday.  I see my family doctor tomorrow; I think she’s calling it my yearly physical. I haven’t seen her over a year. They were only doing phone/video calls all last year. It will be nice to see her. She’ll let me know if I need a bone density test and a mammogram.
    Hope your evening goes well.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

I don’t understand why THIS comment is not rejected too.

    • I don’t get it either.  So sorry!  It’s nowhere to be seen – not in pending, not in spam, not in trash (you probably saw that yourself.  That is a real mystery!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
