Yesterday, I got to see my husband for the first time in a year and a half. Not only he but the staff also made me feel welcome. But it was still a long day, what with 2+ hours driving each way and an almost 5 hour visit. I put some details into a comment in yesterday’s Open Thread, so will try not to repeat myself. And this Open Thread will be short.

PolitiZoom – FUX News Is Literally Poisoning People
Quote – Rachel reported tonight that in addition to having to deal with a collapsing healthcare system, Mississippi suddenly found today that an incredible 70% of the calls coming into their poison control center were from people who had ingested a drug called Ivermectin. What the hell is Ivermectin? It’s a livestock drug used to deworm horses! And why would a shitload of Mississippi residents suddenly start ingesting a livestock deworming drug?

Law and Crime – A Federal Judge Struck Down One of the Most Widely Prosecuted Offenses in Immigration Law, Slamming ‘Racist’ Origins
Quote – Gustavo Carrillo-Lopez was indicted in 2020 for a felony under 8 U.S.C. § 1326. That specific felony is one that has been on the books for nearly a century: reentry into the U.S. after having been deported. Carrillo-Lopez argued that his indictment should be dismissed because the statute violates his equal protection rights under of the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Despite the statute’s long history of use in cases like Carrillo-Lopez’s, his argument prevailed before U.S. District Judge Miranda Du.
Click through for story. I’m sure this is not the end of it, and it could be inteesting to watch where it goes.
AP News – Beshear critics vow to work with governor to fight pandemic
Quote – Top Republican lawmakers are promising to work with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear to fight COVID-19 after a court ruling cleared the way for new limits on the Democratic governor’s emergency powers.
Click through for details. I’ll believe the headline when I see it happening.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I’m sure you’re exhausted, so be sure to take some time for yourself to recuperate. (But I’m also sure it’s good type of exhaustion.)
FUX News Is Literally Poisoning People

A Federal Judge Struck Down One of the Most Widely Prosecuted Offenses in Immigration Law, Slamming ‘Racist’ Origins
(I actually posted a Comment [dmhlt 66] in reply to one by “catothewiser”)
Beshear critics vow to work with governor to fight pandemic
We can hope …
I looked for your comment at “Law and Crime”, and slao at Daily Kos, and could not find it. Do you by chance have a link?
Your graphic is right on the money, and the templat itself is so useful in so many situations that even without captions it says a lot about humans (none of it good.)
Joanne, did you see Rachel Maddow come down on Faux News?
https://news.yahoo.com/rachel-maddow-rips-fox-news-060454042.html
IIRC I did see a clip and thought it a bit long for the video thread … and then PolitiZoom had it. Sometimes, especially if I have plenty of material, I’llcover a video here instead of the video thread. Of course, if it’s a parody or Trae or something else which is a delight to see, I do’t do that.
Oops. Sorry, I was looking at Nameless comment before I went thru your entire posting, otherwise I would of never wrote my question, since you already speak about Rachel with your Politizoom post.
That’s why I bracketed [dmhlt 66].
Law and Crime uses Disqus. I read all the comments I saw there but did’t see one from dmhlt 66 or from catothewiser. So I thought, well if nameless is on Disqus, I can find his profile, but I tried, and didn’t. I tried with and without the space. I did find out Disqus uses very clever imagery for non-existent profiles, though. I looked up catothewiser’s profil, and found it,m and it’s public, but it said he had not yet commented. That’s when I went to Daily Kos. He (I’ll assume he because the orifinal Cato the Wise was a he) wasn’t there. You are, but none of your new comments there was on this. Obviously I am missing something.
Cartoon: Yes, and a depression for all who suffered from the effects of Katrina.
Politizoom: Yes, they are. Read this yesterday, what a shame that most folks who watch Faux, are in another realm than me. They go word by word in what’s being said, and being plain as- stupid in doing so.
L&C: Thank the Lord that Judge Du found it unconstitutional. (As she should).
AP News: What you said, Joanne. I agree.
Cartoon: Scary and scary.
So glad that you had a good visit, and that your drive was good. I’m sure that you wanted to stay longer. Glad you made it home safely too.
This just in: “I stopped by the @State Dept Afghanistan Task Force to Thank everyone for working around the clock, 24/7 to respond to Americans, foreign nationals, and thousands of Afghans who seek safety.”
~ @Wendy R. Sherman, DeputySecState~
2. Almost all eligible Georgians are eligible to vote. “Thank you to Georgia community leaders, including the Black and Brown organizers and activists, who have been working for years to make this possible.~ The Democrats ~
3. “After Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s owner held a fundraiser with Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows, Patagonia (outdoor sports brands), said it wouldn’t supply its products to the resort. It was Patagonia’s “largest single customer in the Jackson Hole area.” ~ David Gura ~
4. “MTG is a stain on our Congress.” ~ George Takei ~
5. “In the last 24 hours, 6 U.S. Military C-17s and 32 charters departed Kabul. The total passenger count for those 38 flights is approximately 3,800. Since the end of July, we have relocated approximately 22,000 people. Since August 14, we have evacuated approximately 17,000 people.” ~ The White House ~ 8/21
I think that’s the first pun I’ve seen you make … and it’s a very clever one!
TJI #1 – I’ve been in those situations, and worked with people in those situations when I was not directly. Any help and/or thanks is much appreciated. Thank you, Deputy Sherman.
TJI #2 – Amen to the nth power!
TJI #3 – And people of good will are apprreciating that … and turning their eyes to Patagonia when shopping. I can’t afford Patagonia regularly, but their products that I’ve seen are truly well made, so that’s a win-win.
TJI #4 – Congress, hell – On the country. Even on the Globe!
TJI #5 – We are getting the job done.
Cartoon: Sad how deadly Katrina, killing so many. What worries me now, is that Mother Nature has been in a violent mood with all of the crazy weather we’ve had everywhere this past week.
PolitiZoom: Insane the way Faux newscasters are getting away with spreading fake news about this drug for horses. Makes me think of tRump when he mentioned drinking bleach.
L&C: Bravo Judge Du. Many of our old fashion laws need to be revised.
AP: I like Pat agree with your comment, that “We’ll believe when it happens.”
Cartoon: Sad, but so very true.
Hope you were able to catch up with your rest today, after your trip from yesterday. Again, I’m so happy that it was a great visit with Virgil. Happy to hear that you both will be able to see each other more often, now that they’re allowing visiting again.
Take care. Thanks Joanne
Make sure you recuperate from such a long and strenuous day, Joanne.
Cartoon: Katrina sadly was more than a tropical depression.
PZ: When you think you’ve heard it all…
L&C: This is the beginning of a long and tiring legal battle that is drawn out so much because it is a political battle in reality.
AP: Republicans helping Beshear? Yeah, right. To the devil, as the Dutch say.
FFT: Funny how the world can look so different if you change perspective, isn’t it?
