This is the thread I had ready for yesterday, but didn’t want to post it then as we all had other things on out minds.  I am also posting it early so that a thread will be up early for comments  So please consider it today’s Open Thread and hang comments on it.  I have even included a “Blast from the Past” at the end (with a bit of explanation as it’s often misunderstood.)

Glenn Kirschner – “A Tale of Two Insurrections”

The Lincoln Project – Memorial Day

Armageddon Update – Yes, Titus can be tough to listen to. But his facts are sound. Sadly, that’s getting harder to find.

Ring of Fire – Giuliani phone call – Farron manages not to editorialize too much (and of course Hattie is always adorable.)

Thom Hartmann – Why so few plea deals? You may already be aware of this … but he explains it so well.

Beau – “Let’s talk about a second Operation New Life and counter arguments….”  I want one of those T-shirts.

“Blast from the Past” – Going Home – Paul Robeson
There is more to this song (and to the singer) than most people are aware of.  Sure Dvorak – but without two other men (both nlack) it would never have existed.  Harry T.BurleighWilliam Arms Fisher.  It has CC but CC does badle with music, so the lyrics are here.
There will be more videos this afternoon, also.

  1. G. Kirschner: Justice does matter. Thank the Lord that Judge Jackson is awesome in doing her job.
LP: I just got back from my local cemetery, with Taps, a Fly Over, and the Armed Forces Medley. I get choked up every time.
Armageddon Update: Truthful and great video.
    Giuliani: OOPS!! LOL
    TH: Good Grief, unreal !!

    Thanks, Joanne, for post.

    • On this Memorial Day –

**RE: Ted Cruz and Tucker Carlson. He shared a video implying America’s “woke, emasculated” military can’t keep up with Russia. Last week, Ted Cruz shared a video implying America’s “woke, emasculated” military can’t keep up with Russia. PERHAPS A U.S. SENATOR SHOULDN’T SUGGEST THAT THE _RUSSIAN_ MILITARY IS BETTER THAN THE AMERICAN MILITARY THAT PROTECTED HIM FROM AN INSURRECTION HE HELPED FOMENT?
“I’m sick and tired of men like Ted Cruz and Tucker Carlson saying that women who serve or femininity in general make our military weaker. Our military is STRONGER because of brave women who step up and serve their country when called.
They should be thanking these badass women instead of insulting them. But if they won’t, I will.
To all our women troops and Veterans out there, thank you for your service.
I wish you all a happy Memorial Day later this month. And remember, Ted Cruz might not have your back, but I always will.”
      All my best,
      Tammy Duckworth

TJI #2:    “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them.” ~  John F. Kennedy ~
      2.  “No man is entitled to the blessings of freedom unless he be vigilant in its preservation.” ~  General Douglas MacArthur ~
      3. “Leaders in the military need to get ‘outside their own personal comfort zone’. It’s important for us to start talking about mentors making themselves uncomfortable, because they are going to learn something too.”  ~ Major General Marcia Anderson ~
      4. *JD… – “All women are created equal, then some become Marines.” ~ Katy Perry ~
      5. “Thank you!! to all the Women (past and present). who are serving, and have served.” ~ PB ~

      • TJI #1 – Memorial Dsy good wishes to you from me, Pat, as well as from me to you. And it is an honor tpo receive them from Senaton Duckworth, for sure.
        TJI #2 – Word.
TJI #3 – I can testify to that, and I’ll bet you can too, PAt. A generl officer who is a general asset to our military and our nation! Thank you, MGen Anderson!
        Tji #4 – Aaaw – blushing.
TJI #5 – A sentiment I echo. If you – or anyone – missed the

      • TJI#1: I too want to Wish you, Pat, Joanne and all others who have served in the military for our country a “Happy Memorial Day”. Plus say “Thank you too for serving our country.” 20
        TJI#2: True words.
TJI#3: Wise words spoken by a real Major General.
TJI#4: Yep, we have two wonderful gals here. 20 20
TJI#5: God Bless you, Joanne and all of the rest. Regarding the PBS Memorial Day Concert, I missed it too. I did click the link that Joanne put on her post and it comes up page not found?

  2. Joanne, thank you for continuing TC’s legacy the way.  Not that I’m surprised, just grateful.
GK: “A House select Committee,” has my vote.
    LP: Very well put.
AU: So, I turned the volume way down, and have to say he is on point!
ROF: Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far, away, there was a Rudy who seemed to have it pretty much all together.  “Seemed” is the operative word, as stories have been told of a differing sort….
TH: Cohen is most probably right, like 90-100%.  The imprisoned insurrectionists continue to thrive on delusion.
Beau:  Too many American people are not interested in logic.  History continues to repeat itself: We get all riled up at some injustice that we think it is our duty to correct, we get mired down in the process of correcting same, having stepped into a situation much more complex than we’d been led to believe it was- as in we were lied to- and we just want to put it out of our thoughts.  The new injustice will happen if we abandon these folks to the fate that awaits them at home.   Does Beau own a silk screening system?
Robeson is not playing.  The lyrics are hitting home.  I will try to hear him doing this on google.  Paul Robeson was one heck of a marvelous fellow.

    • Got it.  In case anyone else has difficulty with it here (which i doubt): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9smSP1dq-A

      • Thank you, Mitch.  Sorry you had difficulty but glad you found it.  Yes, he was a wonderful fellow, and shbbily spurned for it.

        • It reminds me of a theme built around Pres. Obama, who I believe said that he was 20 years too early.  Paul Robeson was probably more than a hundred years too early, given what we now know about how deeply racism runs in this country.
TC: I hope there is a home for you to be, and that you are there, happily.

  3. TJI#1: Bravo Tammy!  That it was necessary for anybody to call out those bits of slime, is sooo sad.
TJI#2:  Does that include the slimeballs?
TJI#3: Sounds like good advise to any leader, to me.
    TJI#4: Fitting.
    TJI#5: I’ll second that.
