HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMCAT!

Here’s something nice: Senator Martin Heimrich (D-NM) speaking in favor of the nomination of Representative Deb Haaland (D-NM) to head the Interior Department.

Congresswoman Haaland has lived experience–as a single mother, as a small business owner, and as a Tribal administrator–that will serve her well and bring real representation to President Biden’s Cabinet. As many have noted, Congresswoman Haaland will also make history as the first-ever Native American Cabinet secretary, something that frankly should have happened a long, long time ago. Deb is uniquely qualified to restore the Department of Interior’s nation-to-nation relationship to Tribal Nations and to help Indian Country recover and rebuild from COVID-19.

This was Thursday. Under 7 minutes and – professional – and personal.

Also Thursday. To quote “Mineral Man at Democratic Underground, “This Is How a Real President Signs a Bill. Maybe the most important one so far. No crowd of grinning assholes behind you. No holding up something to show your illegible signature. You say a few words, sign the bill, and go back to work.”

All the REAL former presidents make a PSA for vaccines.

Beau – The founding fathers (viz. Washington) and quarantine

And … Birthday Cake!

Partay!

  1. CSPAN: Haaland is  so qualified to be Biden’s Sec’y of the Interior, that she’d not even be considered in the prior admin!
The Hill: Clear, precise, no hyperbole, no threats, no snide commentary…oh, just like an adult.
    Signing: Ditto!
Ad Council: Despite the presence of the next to last person to steal the presidency, and his ugly face, I like it.  again, no hype, no threats, no conspiracy dog-whistles…adult.
Beau: The Smallpox “inoculation” of Washington’s time, I believe, consisted in rubbing a Smallpox scab into a mild cut in the skin.  It was, again, I believe, the first, or one of the first, such attempts to provide immunity to a disease.  The cries for “Freedom!,” such as Ted Cruz’ recent ones are only for the freedom to impose will on others, curtailing their freedom.
Tasting History:  Who would have thought?  Nice!
Has that DJ Cat got a goatee?

  2. Heinrich Delivers Remarks Supporting Haaland

From a medical and genetic perspective, it’s well-documented that diversity is a healthy attribute.

(No wonder republicans are a dying breed.)

    Merrick Garland gives FIRST SPEECH

Absolutely wonderful!  But I can’t help but think how much better he’d look in black robes on a bench with eight other justices.  (This is where a lesser person might add: “F\/CK YOU, Mitch McConnell!)

    Former Presidents and First Ladies

Wonderful that Donnie & Melania were NOT invited to participate!

What does a 1920s BIRTHDAY CAKE taste like?

Oh, come on … TC isn’t THAT old!

  3. CSPAN: Good to see her colleagues stand so firmly behind Haaland’s nomination for the Interior. She deserves that appointment.

The Hill: Beautiful speech about calling and equal justice for all. No frills, no empty promises, but heartfelt from a man who has a Herculean job ahead of him.

WTHR: The signing of this bill isn’t really what is historic, it’s content is. And what will make it truly historic is how it will pan out and change the lives of millions of Americans for the better. And only time will tell if this bill does that.

AC: This ad will have an impact because the imposter is missing from the cast. Even the untrustworthy Republican can be trusted with this message.

Beau: Nice piece of history. The Founding Fathers were all children of the Enlightenment period and in today’s America would still be called progressives if people just took the time what they really stood for. Listening to science, questioning the establishment and tearing it down where it was found wanting was the bread and butter of their thought processes. Of course, they were also children of their time in another sense and their thought processes were reserved for white men of standing and education, something Republicans focus on because it is all that suits them. Their “Freedom” is nothing like the Founding Fathers had in mind.

TH: Also very interesting. I must admit I enjoyed Bach’s lute suites in the background as much as the recipe. I hope someone ordered a birthday cake for TomCat.

  4. Thanks JD!  Dang!  What can I say? 20

Heinrich – There could be no better choice to head Interior Department than Deb Haaland!

TH – Garland would have a superior Supreme Court Justice.  He will be an even better Attorney General!

    13 – Awesome!

AC – It’s is wonderful to have leaders again!

Beau – The only freedom Republicans practice is the freedom to abuse their trust.  The founding fathers and Biden know better.

    Birthday 1 & 2 – awwww…. you guys are too much!
