I just listened to Hosni Mubarak address the Egyptian people. He said he will not leave. He said he will give some of his powers to the VP, but he made it clear that he plans to stay in charge until the elections in September, and that he plans to be buried in Egypt.
I feat things are going to get very, very ugly!
More tomorrow…

I guess that burying part will come sooner rather than later.
What is it about dictatorial power that blinds types like Mubarek to reality?
The same thing that blinds Teabaggers to Fox lies.
Wait until tomorrow after prayer, those people are pissed and I think Mubarak wants to provoke the people so the military will clamp down on them.
I was listening to the Egyptian Ambassador saying under article 82 of the Constitution Suleiman is the defacto President and can act alone but he has to listen to Mubarak who has no power. Confused? Not good!
Jim, I heard that ambassador and I think he was so full of crap his eyes turned brown.
The crowds in Tahrîr Square are furious. It could get ugly indeed.
Mubarak had the option of ending like Ben Ali. New he may end like Ceauşescu.
Becoming a dictator is hard work. I think it’s only people who are obsessed with a desire for power that become dictators in the first place. Then, they don’t give it up easily.
I agree, Infidel, and think this is going to be ugly.
He has chosen the easiest path to radicalize the Egyptian people. Why? Well in my opinion, it would take at least until September for him to get his people in place to keep the government through fraudulent elections. But I agree that this could result in full blown civil war long before then and now with the military coming out in support of Mubarak it is going to get ugly quick and of course USA will be to blame.
Time to turn the tap off cut the financial support and if necessary expel the Egyptian ambassador from DC.
Excellent thought, Mark. He may well be stirring up the people’s rage for an excuse to crack down.
All tyrants in history stay on umtil the bitter end. Hitler did it; Stalin did it; Nixon did it; Mao did it; and W did it. Mubarak is, in that sense, just like each of them.
And the better end came when the army told him he was done.
