I haven’t found much news, and what little I have found is petty. Ted Cruz had a hissy fit. Tara Reade’s attorney dumped her. Another youth pastor has been caught soliciting a male sex worker. Ho hum. But it’s Friday. Someone with a modicum of integrity will probably get fired tonight. Meanwhile, here’s an article to hang comments on.
Never-before-seen Trump photo. No one can safely get a haircut in a salon right now, including the president. Hereβs proof, a photo of his overgrown pandemic hair, sent to me by a White House official and verified by a second administration source. βThe hair is his real hair from quarantining and not being able to get a haircut,β the first official tells me.
There’s a new ad out, not from the Lincoln Project, but from a PAC called “Lindsey Must Go”
I don’t generally impose information about operas I’m watching on people here, and I”’ try to keep this relevant, but the Opera I watched Wednesday night left me a little unsettled. and made me realize something I’d never thought about. It wasn’t the music, or the cast, or the sets and costumes – all were brilliant. Yet it was painful to watch. It was like watching an asteroid come in headed straight for you. Impending doom and no way to avoid it. But here’s the thing. I cannot think of another opera, or another play, or another book, story, ballet, any narrative form, in which ALL the characters were trying so terribly hard to do the right thing. Hate comes into it but no one who has it is a hateful person. They’re not motivated by greed, or cruelty, but for justice as they see it. And – as a result – there is no one to blame. No one for the viewer to be angry with. It was a revelation to me to realize how much focus – how much closure – I lost by not having that. It’s no excuse, but it may give me a little insight into where some (not all) Trump* supporters are coming from … it’s true they were unfair to pick people to blame who were in no way at fault, and also true that they were – let’s say misguided – to seize on people to blame that Trump* handed to them. But I certainly can understand the craving.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Cartoon: Yep. They said.
Lindsey: Should’a been gone January 17, 2017. We used to pick these guys out of a crowd, known as ‘brown nosers’, from the ole Navy days. Or as my dad used to describe an R politician.
No truer words written. Well said.
Thank you, Joanne for posting.
Has anyone heard from TC? Hope that he is doing good, and hopefully, can come home. I’ll keep checking back. Healing thoughts and prayers too, for a healthy and great recovery! xo
*This just in: “dt is unworthy to preside over a ceremony to hang President Obama’s portrait in the WH. When President Biden presides over that ceremony, I hope all of the former Presidents sans Trump will be there. It will be a restorative act. It will be a reassertion of dignity and decency.” ~ Steve Schmidt ~
2. “In spite of dt’s negligence, our Country will survive. DT had a chance to be a Hero and to guide our nation, with the pandemic of Coronavirus. He failed both.” ~ Jorge H. ~
3. “There are schizophrenics with Tourette’s who are more in control of what comes out of their mouths than dt.” ~ Bill Maher ~
4. “And I test very positively in another sense. So this morning, I tested positively toward the negative, right? So no…I tested perfect this morning, meaning I tested negative. But that’s a way of saying it. Positively toward the negative.” ~Trump remark on the testing of hydroxychloroquine~
5. “Everybody says I’ve done a tremendous job with the Covid. My leadership has been extraordinary, best in history. My quick actions have all but wiped out the virus, saving millions of lives, and I’ve got the economy ready to roar back to better than before. I think a little gratitude would be nice. Maybe a big ‘Thank You!, Mr. President’ is called for.” ~ Donald Trump ~
Ooops!!
Thank you, Joanne for your great post!!
Pat, I haven’t heard from WWWendy, no. But she did, when I last spoke to her on Tuesday, expect them to keep him at least as long as today. So in this case no news is, if not exactly good new, still definitely not bad news.
And – with regard to that portrait – Steve Schmidt (of all people) is right on the money. And a dignified impressive portrait it is.
I think #4 and #5 of your “*This just in” make it very clear what Bill Maher is saying in #3, Pat
My concern is Sun. when 1000 CA pastors, who wrote a letter announcing it, intend to do in-person worship in CA…despite the 180 exposed on Mother’s Day when one church did…courts have been supporting the Gov. on this one here–3 so far
First and foremost: While not an opera fan even when I had hearing, please do share with us WHAT OPERA YOU WERE WATCHING!
(Enquiring minds want to know)
Whenever there’s a YouTube video included, I always go to the site to view rather than in the post. Currently the Lindsey Graham video has over 2,700 LIKES & only ten (10) Dislikes.
The opera was Un Ballo in Maschera (“A Masquerade Ball), music by Giuseppe Verdi, libretto by Antonio Somma, based on an 1833 play by Daniel Aubert. I don’t know the play – it’s sure to have been cut, because it takes a lot longer to sing words than it does to say them – it may have provided a villain or two. Apparently both were based on an assassination which really happened, though almost certainly not quite like that. Verdi had a lot of run-ins wit censorship, and this was no exception. The production I watched restored the original character names and titles, but was set (or at least costumed – the set was fairly abstract) sometime between about 1910 and 1935. I’m sure that’s far more than you wanted to know.
(Also, I try hard to make sure a video has CC turned on when I post it – sometimes it’s not available, and sometimes it’s available but inaccurate, but I try.)
Your photo yesterday of a (probable) librarian rearranging books to have their titles tell a story, reminded me of this:
Across the pond, a Suffolk, UK library closed down because of COVID-19. A well-meaning, but over-zealous, cleaner took the opportunity to take all the books down to then give all the shelves a thorough cleaning.
Unfortunately, when s/he restocked the shelves, all the books were arranged by SIZE!

Ouch.
At least libraries put the filing information on the spines of the books so they won’t have to open every one to correct the ordering. At least, they do in the US. I hope they do so in Suffolk!
What is the longest word in the English language?
pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
According to http://www.quora.com/ the above word is the longest but it boils down to silicosis, a decidedly shorter word. It refers to a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of very fine silica particles, specifically from a volcano. BTW, it has 44 letters if my counting is correct.
Who knew! Maybe Nameless?
I knew the longest word in the language meant a lung disease to which miners were vulnerable, but I’d have had to look it up to spell it. I didnn’t try to count, but 44 sounds right.
FYI, The Cat is alive and will post a Personal Update tomorrow. Thanks, Love, and Hugs to all!
Well, now that’s a most Welcome closing!
Your timing is impeccable!
Glad that you are back home and doing well.
We’ve missed you. Joanne has been doing a fantastic job with keeping us posted.
Take care, TomCat
Hugs back your way.
The best news came last: TomCat hasn’t run out of all of his 9 lives yet.
Oh darn, wrong one…
That’s better
I liked the haircut, Joanne.
The “Linsey must go” video is great, having him say he should be resigned at the ballot box is brilliant.
I can understand the urge to find blame with someone or something. Having something terrible happen for good reasons leaves us feeling empty.
Yes. You get it. thanks.
Glad you clicked through to the haircut I didn’t show it because I didn’t want to telegraph the punchline.
Yes, Daniel Harry Potter Radcliffe is MUCH better.
Glad to see that you w/be back in the saddle, TC!
PTL !!!! and kitty hugs to you!
Hooray, looking fwd to hearing from you, TC! I didn’t know till Fri. that you were so ill. You gotta pull thru & rock out when the blue tsunami rolls! Oh, to see L. Graham wiped out—–we have a dream! Just had my 1st convo w/ a neighbor (of @ 5 yrs.) across street. She wanted to know y I still put out my “Con ‘man’ tRump lies’/ 45 loves putin yard sign if I got $1200 stimulus check?! Yes, really.
