May 202020

Wendy called me about 11 am PDT to let me know that TC is in hospital, critical care, but in good spirits.  He was very weak but perked up quickly upon being hydrated (he is good about drinking water as a rule, but sometimes dehydration sneaks up on him.)  He may be there a couple of days.  Wendy says hello to everyone, and says she is doing everything she can (I told her we know that, but promised to spell it out.)

The blog is his number one priority … so please comment, including with news.  Thanks everyone.

  1. Thank you, Wendy for the Head’s up! and calling Joanne to relay TC’s hospitalization.
    Hi Tom!!
Saddened to read from Joanne’s post, that you are in the Hospital.
Hope that you start feeling better, get and stay hydrated, and enjoying your hospital food. LOL ! jk

All is good here, nice and quiet here in the hood, fixin’ to go mow the grass….somebody has to do it, the weeds are thick! We are currently @89 w/some cloud cover, so that’s a ‘go’ for me.

I hope and pray that you get well. Well enough to come home and relax in familiar surroundings. Take good, good care, TC, and I’m sending healing wishes and prayers for you too. xo

    Thanks, Joanne for the post.

  2. TC, it is not nice of you to pee out more than you take in, man!  Then, agin, that damned Republicosis can knock more than just the shit out of you!  I certainly hope your time the hospital is well spent, restores your strength, and allows yo to get home soon.
Wendy, I/we ALL thank you so much for your dedication to our favorite TomCat.  If I believed in angels, I would call you one.
    Joanne, thanks for the update.
The news from here (Florida) is that we are well hunkered down, doing well and have made some preparations for the coming hurricane season.  That first tropical storm with a name, this year, Arthur, moved off into the Atlantic causing no problem for us.
The 40th anniversary of Mt. St. Helens’ blowing her top, was yesterday, and she lives in your greater neighborhood, TC.  To bad Mar-A-Largo was not built on her flanks.

  3. Bless Wendy for being there and able to get you over to the hospital, TomCat.
I also want to thank Wendy for calling Joanne, who I thank too, for posting the news.
We’ve all been very concerned about you, Tom.
I’m happy that you are now getting your body hydrated. Hoping that your doctors will see you while you are in there so they can figure out a safer road/way to get you back on track,
Take care and do Take your time.
We will all be here waiting patiently for your healthy return.
Thoughts and prayers continue to be sent your way. Big hugs too.
    Thanks again for posting, Joanne.

  4. Once again, Wendy earns another Angel’s Bar on her way to sainthood!

“He was very weak but perked up quickly upon being hydrated …”

It’s amazing what some IV Normal Saline (or less likely, Lactated Ringers) can do for a person.

Hope TC gets to feeling better soon – and they figure out the reason for the diarrhea

  5. When I go looking for a cartoon made by TC, I always start with “this date in history,” because if there is one, it’s easier to find and guaranteed to be relevant. Today there was nothing major, although they did claim that this date in 1310 was the day the first ever pair of shoes with a left shoe and a right shoe was made. I can’t even begin to guess how that could be a known date.

If I find more, I’ll post more. I got a late start.

    • I am not good at finding TVU maps, but here’s a link that should help:

      https://projects.propublica.org/reopening-america/

ProPublica is a Creative Commons site, so I probably could repost the whole article … except that it’s going to be regularly updated at the same link, and posting it here would not include the updates.  Besides which, it’s bloody long, having, as it does, a graph for each state  Here’s a sample – here is Oregon as of today, 5/20:

Oregon is actually one of the best.  I did not see any state which had green checks all across AND Low positive tests per 100,000.

    • And I confess that I am recommending this “blind”, so to speak, but I just got an email on Al Franken’s latest podcast, which is HERE, and I was so hooked by what he says about it that I will listen to it.

“I challenge him on why the hell it took so damn long to leave his party (2018!) considering how obvious it’s been that the GOP has been operating in bad faith for decades now.

I think you’ll be fascinated with his answer. And, also, really like him and the interview. And, of course, me.”

  6. If you’re in critical care, they may again not allow you to take in an i-pad and you may not see this but if you do:

I also like to draw attention to an article Freya has posted: FDA halts Bill Gates coronavirus testing program | TheHill:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) halted a coronavirus testing program promoted by billionaire Bill Gates and Seattle health officials pending reviews.

The program sought to send test kits to the homes of people both healthy and sick to try to bring the country to the level of testing officials say is necessary before states can begin safely reopening. The program, which had already gone through thousands of tests, found dozens of cases that had been previously undiagnosed. [emphasis mine]

This comes at a time when Trump says US topping world virus cases is ‘badge of honour’ but experts point out there are countries which test more per capita, not per volume, the US coming in as 16th globally in terms of tests per 1,000 people, ahead of South Korea, but behind the likes of Iceland, New Zealand, Russia and Canada. And the U.S. is finding a case for every 7.8 tests, far behind other countries like New Zealand, Australia and South Korea, who have to test far higher numbers of people to find a case.

Again Trump shows his complete lack of understanding of statistics and makes up some conclusions to defend his mismanagement of the coronavirus. I’m sure that the FDA halting Gate’s testing program, which found so many undiagnosed cases, is ordered by the Administration to spare Trump further embarrassment but at the same time, Trump wants to reopen for business, something that is only safe if more tests are conducted, not less.

    • Thanks, Lona.  That’s why I jumped in with Sam to fill in.

But don’t worry  He may not see it today, but he’ll see it.  WWWendy says the first thing he’ll do when he gets out is hit the blog.28

  7. hoping for a speedy recovery for TC…..and for all the rest to remain strong and resist and persist….
