I’m still tired, here at the CatBox.  I just haven’t recovered from gruesome days Monday and Wednesday, but I should be in the saddle today and tomorrow, followed by two short days.  TGIF Hugs to all!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:36 (average 5:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Sen. Lindsey Graham, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, has shifted his bootlicking skills into high gear. After demanding that Democrats release transcripts of the impeachment inquiry he told reporters, “I’m not going to read these transcripts. The whole process is a joke.” He says he will not even consider the evidence. Lindsey feels that “the whole process to be a sham” and therefore, he will not “legitimize it.” Forget about the fact that he’s spent the past three years legitimizing a man he  said would destroy the Republican Party. Forget about the fact that Graham is now espousing a standard of impeachment that is so tortured, 1999 Lindsey might convict 2019 Lindsey of treason.

But the Republican Party is trying as hard as they can to completely obliterate the legal foundations of checks and balances in our democracy, and so throwing out any and every crazy gaslighting idea to defend their powerful orange-haired cow is the order of the day. During Sen. Graham’s mini press report in the Senate hallways, possibly shaken by the sheer enormity of his liar’s task, he decided to try out a new tact: Donald Trump et al are so goddamn stupid, they can’t be involved in a quid pro quo conspiracy. Because they’re dumb dumbs.

If Lindsey Poo says his beloved Fuhrer is too stupid to be guilty, what does that say about Lindsey Poo?  RESIST!!

I was about to say that the so-called adults in the room are doing a piss poor job of restraining the Fuhrer’s worst impulses. Especially since that is “no longer true”, the author should not be lining hus own pocket by writing a book. Instead, he should resign and present himself to the House Impeachment inquiry. RESIST!!

  1. Cartoon: So saith the Lord. Amen.
DK: 1999 Miss Lindsey should convict hisself…today. He brings nothing to the table, complains and rotes incessantly. He’s so annoying, imho.
MSNBC: I’m going to have to put my name on the list at the library, and read this book. He’s (dt) has been toxic campaigning, and every day since he took office. I can’t stomach his vile diatribe either. Good job, Rachel !
BFTP: A beautiful song, love it!

Your trips can take a lot out of you. Energy wise. Get your rest, and don’t over-do your daily chores. Take good, good care and rest. Thanks, Tom.
FYI: I may be late next few days, (tomorrow: Veterans Day march through town) and then Sunday, my BD…and Monday…2 school visits on the real VD (lol), then back to normal…I think…..

  2. 4:38 Nothing is ripe, though.

Crooks and Liars has a cool guide to all the impeachment documents getting posted.

I opened my email inbox this morning and started checking ones to delete unread. I noticed these two subject lines (the emails had only about four other emails between them):
“Low pay: A stumbling block for quality childcare”
“Former Twitter employees charged with spying for Saudi Arabia”
and I thought, gee- I wonder if there’s a connection there. Between low pay and people spying for other countries.
Maybe income inequality is actually a national security issue.

Cartoon – The last one is the hardest. But we must try.

DK – What does that say about Lindsey today? Well, one of two things – maybe both. A) he is succumbing to senile dementia or Alzheimer’s. B) he is being blackmailed within an inch of his life. Seriously, this is not the kind of pivot that a sane person not under pressure will make.

Rachel – Yes indeed. There’s another quote, which she didn’t read (but WaPo printed and Raw Story quoted), that I kind of thought summed it up: “It’s like showing up at the nursing home at daybreak to find your elderly uncle running pantsless across the courtyard and cursing loudly about the cafeteria food, as worried attendants tried to catch him…. You’re stunned, amused, and embarrassed all at the same time. Only your uncle probably wouldn’t do it every single day, his words aren’t broadcast to the public, and he doesn’t have to lead the US government once he puts his pants on.”

Past – This one is in some ways not from the past. It’s become a hymn in many churches. And rightly so. It’s more Christlike than “Onward Christian Soldiers” (and many others) IMO.

    • That guide to impeachment deposition transcripts is a good resource.

Now that we’re moving into the public phase of the inquiry, I’m anxious to see who the republicans will want to call as witnesses.  So far they’ve not offered up even ONE exculpatory witness.  Envoy Sondland started out that way, but deciding he wasn’t going to destroy himself in order to save Trump, recanted and provided “revised” testimony.

They’re whining already because Rep. Schiff has final say if a witness can be called.  But that’s because he’s running a professional and tight inquiry.  And he has provided guidelines that need to be met for a witness to be a valid participant.

The investigation conducted by these investigative
committees has focused on three interrelated lines of inquiry
      regarding the President’s conduct:
                1. Did the President request that a foreign leader
and government initiate investigations to benefit the
President’s personal political interests in the United
States, including an investigation related to the
President’s political rival and potential opponent in
              the 2020 U.S. presidential election?
                2. Did the President–directly or through agents–
seek to use the power of the Office of the President
and other instruments of the federal government in
other ways to apply pressure on the head of state and
government of Ukraine to advance the President’s
personal political interests, including by leveraging
an Oval Office meeting desired by the President of
Ukraine or by withholding U.S. military assistance to
              Ukraine?
                3. Did the President and his Administration seek to
obstruct, suppress or cover up information to conceal
from the Congress and the American people evidence
about the President’s actions and conduct?

    • These guidelines limiting what witnesses can be called are clearly designed to stop Devin Nunes from turning it into a circus.  We’re not going to hear from Sean Hannity, Alex Jones or Laura Ingraham praising Trump.

And turning the questions into statements, they look like pretty good guidelines for Articles of Impeachment: soliciting interference for the 2020 election; abuses of power and betrayal of his Oath of Office; and obstruction.

      I can live with those!

  • ‘Toon: No, not hate the hate mongers…just feel sorry for them…after i kick them into hell.
Graham is the poster by for “No spine, no brain, no shit!”
Rachel #1: My takeaway is that the resident is incompetent to lead ANYTHING!
Rachel #2: Erdogan- He may have been able to conceive that his pull-out would have led directly to the loss of Kurdish lives,” but he would not have cared…even if he’d been able to pay attention!  “Someone like this is not supposed to be President of the United States.”  the system never anticipated a totally, fucking crazy bastard in office, nor the spineless sycophants sucking up.  “…dumbed down” to single pictures?  Yes, these admin. officials need to come out!
S and G: Boy have we got “Troubled Waters!”

  • Cartoon: Great virtues. Have to admit like others, that the last one is hard. I was always brought up to never hate.
DK: Graham is an idiot. Doesn’t want to read it, probably because he doesn’t know how to. He’s another one who needs to be taken out of his position quickly.
Rachel: Agree with your comment on this one, TC.
BFTP: Yes the song fits perfectly with all of the troubles going on with our current events that are happening right now. Hope you got some rest.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  • 3:19 Too tough, too prickly, but a nice green.

Cartoon: Let’s start Thou shall not hate. Period.

DK: Lindsey Graham may have a point that Trump et al are “dumb dumbs”, but he seems to forget that the only way Trump as a “businessman” could get his magnificent deals done was by bribery, intimidation and quid pro quo. They say that in dementia the most well-honed skills are the last to go and while we can hardly speak of a skill here, this mafia-boss behaviour was perhaps the only thing Trump was any good at and therefore the last to go as his dementia increases.

MSNBC: Ben Rhodes is spot-on; a man like Trump should not be president now, as he has shown completely incapable of grasping what it needs to be president, and certainly shouldn’t be allowed to be president for another four years. So these anonymous people who call themselves the adults in the room should no longer shirk their responsibilities and come forward, not trying to make a buck while trying to elevate themselves to closet heroes while in fact, they have not faced their own responsibilities and still aren’t doing it. Books like these will only give the GOP more ammunition for their fake news and leftist/Democrats/deep state conspiracy theories, as none of it can be checked until the anonymous author comes forward.

BFTP: Ahhhhh…the first album I bought with savings for myself. One of the most brilliant combinations of an exceptional songwriter and an angel’s voice.

  • I hope at some point soon we’ll learn what Putin has on Graham that got him to do such a sharp 180 degree turn from chastising and castigating Trump, to praising and defending him.

“I was about to say that the so-called adults in the room are doing a piss poor job of restraining the Fuhrer’s worst impulses.”

Of course, given Trump’s ignorance, impetuousness and impulsivity, it’s possible that they actually HAVE restrained him from his worst impulses.  It’s a scary thought, but I’m still worried about that “nuclear football” a military aide carries being used.  (I just learned that nuclear code briefcase weighs 45 pounds!)

  • Thanks and weekend hugs to all! 19
