Short Takes:
From YouTube (Elizabeth Warren Channel): Elizabeth Warren at the 2019 New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention
They seem to like her as much as I do. RESIST!!
From YouTube (a blast from the past): DONOVAN- ATLANTIS
Ah… the memories! RESIST!!
From Think Progress: A prominent LGBTQ rights organization, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announced Thursday that it will host a presidential town hall on LGBTQ issues next month. The event will air on CNN.
LGBTQ advocacy groups told ThinkProgress that they know exactly what ideas they want to hear discussed at the town hall set for Oct. 10, which is National Coming Out Day. Many said that first and foremost, they want candidates to acknowledge the struggles of the most marginalized in the community, including LGBTQ people of color, and put forward policies to respond to anti-LGBTQ bias in the criminal justice system.
“LGBTQ people are more likely to come into contact with the police due to discriminatory policing, be incarcerated, and experience violence while locked up than non-LGBTQ people. Black and Latinx LGBTQ people are most impacted,” Tyrone Hanley, senior policy counsel for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, told ThinkProgress.
Hanley said that aspirants to the White House must put criminal justice reform as one of the issues topping their list. “Candidates must demonstrate an understanding that anti-LGBTQ discrimination and violence is impacted by issues of race, gender, and class just as they are for other communities,” he said.
The town hall comes at a critical time, as the Trump administration has rolled back health-care protections for transgender people and protections for transgender students, implemented a ban on transgender people in the military, and proposed a rule that allows broad religious exemptions for businesses with federal contracts.
I look forward to seeing this and agree with the sponsors’ intent. This was Think Progress’ most recent political article, dated 9/5. RESIST!!
Vote Blue!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Cartoon: I was still in the military, but when I heard about this, I was stunned. He should have went to prison for what he did….
EWC: She is so awesome! VOTE BLUE!
Donavan: Wonderful…
TP: I’m in agreement, and think it’s an excellent idea. Hope that their concerns are answered.
Hi, Wendy! Gosh, I hope that your chair is up and running, and not defective…Get a chance to relax, take good care, enjoy your day, and Thanks, Tom.

Cartoon – If they didn’t pardon their criminals, there’d be no Republican politicians left outside prison (and non-politicians would be very difficult to recruit to run for anything.)
Warren – I think she’s very likable myself. Someone at Democratic Underground pointed out that of all our candidates, she seems to be the one who most wants to be elected to make sure the work gets done, and the least for personal ambition. I agree with that, and I think people respond to it.
I remember Donovan but not this song.
TP – Most people appear to grasp that ethnic heritage, including skin color, are not within the control of individuals, but are a matter of biology. The same recognition when it comes to gender and orientation has been much longer in coming, and, as anyone with the ability to read should know, is not yet general knowledge. That makes it particularly rough for those who are not perfectly “straight.” But complete acceptance of the facts will not solve the problem – it hasn’t for people of color (or, for that matter, for women), and it won’t for LGBTQ+. Because then the stereotypes about behavior unrelated to orientation have already begun to take shape, and will become more prevalent as the science becomes more accepted.
Warren: I have no issue with anything I have heard her say. She’s my choice thus far.
Donovan: Loved “Mellow Yellow.”
TP: “Hanley said that aspirants to the White House must put criminal justice reform as one of the issues topping their list. “Candidates must demonstrate an understanding that anti-LGBTQ discrimination and violence is impacted by issues of race, gender, and class just as they are for other communities,” he said.” Candidates also must see LGTBQ people, each, as demonstrating just one more way to be human, naturally!
‘Toon: Ford MAY have believed that it would not be good for the country to have a criminal trial of a past president on which to focus. I see it just the other way round, that it would have been good for the country, and politicians in general, to see the bastard hoisted on his own petard, and given a taste of consequences for his actions.
Cartoon – Being 71 y/o I (possibly like many of you) were turned into activists in part from the whole Nixon/Watergate debacle.
While I was happy back then that Ford’s pardon most likely cost him the election, I my anger at him was somewhat later assuaged and appeased when I learned this little tidbit about Ford:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burdick_v._United_States
I won’t be coy, Sen. Warren is my #1 choice, followed by anything that has a “D” after their name.
But I was Gobsmacked to learn in that video that she’s taken 50,000 selfies! That’s a LOT of selfies!
ADDENDUM:
I don’t know if any of you watch the Sunday morning talks shows (I watch NBC’s “Meet the Press” & ABC’s “This Week w/ George Stephanopoulos”) – but I was amazed at what Chuck Todd said during the Roundtable sessions.
But what I want to add concerns Rahm Emanuel’s “advice” to Warren (paraphrasing): She has her “I’m from Oklahoma” material that is quite moving, and her “I’ve Got a Plan for That” which is quite impressive.
But to win over voters that aren’t tuned in to politics day-in-day-out, she needs to use more of he “I’m from Oklahoma” material.
I agree! People tend to vote for someone they actually like and/or feel comfortable with.
Only somewhat related, but on this Sept. 8th, we have the demonstration of the esteem in which our Vice-President is held, in his own homeland:

Carrying on with your theme, should we conclude that:
Trump Sits on Dumps …
Or
Trump Takes a Dump …
Or
Trump Is a Dump …

“Enquiring Minds Want to Know”
Cats shat on Republicans!
Cartoon: Have to agree with Pat. He should of never been pardoned. Been sent to prison instead.
Elizabeth: Sure hope that she continues getting more supporters. She needs to get ahead of Joe and Bernie.
Donovan: I don’t recognize this tune. Did like some of his other songs.
Sure hope that you can figure out what’s causing your Vela chair not to charge. Maybe you can call the company that sold it to you for support.
Good luck tomorrow with your appointment. Hope they’ll try to treat it with medication first.
Take care. Thanks TomCat
Today in church, I made a point of asking everyone to pray for the people of the Bahamas. As I commented on the path of the hurricane from the Bahamas up the east coast to hitting Halifax, Nova Scotia and PEI yesterday, and Newfoundland today at cat 2, I said “but it did not hit Alabama”. The laughter was very noticeable, even from our pastor who was standing beside me. From our pastor is to be expected as he holds dual citizenship and is definitely not a Trump supporter. But from the rest of the congregation, it is an indication that many are very aware of Trump’s BS and stupidity probably more than are some Americans.
Warren — AMEN! I watched another vid of Warren questioning Wells Fargo Chairman and CEO Stumpf (as fittingly rhymes with Drumpf!) over the WF scam that occurred a while back. Did she ever grind him up and spit him out! The US needs people like Warren all through the country to lay waste to the corporate and Republican bullshit that has held the country hostage for far too long.
Think Progress — I read this yesterday. Governments that purport to be democracies need to ensure that they represent all the people equally and fairly. These governments must address systemic problems in all areas. The one area that governments cannot control are the beliefs of other people but with laws that ban discrimination and the application of penalties for discrimination, perhaps that will slowly change. We can hope.
Cartoon — A travesty of true justice that is still being felt today in the Trump era. The DOJ’s policy of not charging a sitting president began with Nixon as I recall and it is being used today with Trump. Sad!!!
🦔 Just hopping by to let everyone know I’m fine, but just too busy, and perhaps a little wary of politics in general, to comment.
I hope your new chair is brought back to life soon, TomCat.
Thanks and pooped OGIM Hugs to all!
E. Warren knows her stuff. She can out debate ANY republican candidate. Everything I’ve heard from her makes sense.
We have to beat the Village Idiot in the White House, so we can undo the horrible damage he’s managed to do. He is so unbelievably corrupt.
Still have Donovans Albums. It all seems so long ago.
