From Daily Kos: There’s a lot that this administration has done that’s gobsmackingly heinous, but this is extreme. A new memo posted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Wednesday declares that children born overseas to U.S. military members and government employees won’t be automatically considered citizens.
Yes, people serving their country overseas, including in the military and in the diplomatic corps and every other foreign posting, will have to apply for citizenship for any of their children born outside of the U.S., starting Oct. 29. The memo says the USCIS is changing the definition of “residing in the United States” to mean being born in the U.S., disqualifying children born to U.S. citizens at overseas military bases or diplomatic facilities. Parents are going to have to prove their citizenship and residency in order to pass it on to their children.
Way to support the troops, Trump.
To Republicans, our troops are just cannon-fodder. Real support for then comes only from Democrats. RESIST!!

ABC – An impeachment inquiry is a necessary part of the impeachment process, as Robert Reich explained here not so long ago. It is from the impeachment inquiry(ies) that Articles of Impeachment are drawn up, and those must pass the full House before continuing. After that, they go to the Senate. You can draw your own conclusions as to what happens then.
The Del[l] Shannon I am most familiar with was a mystery writer – police procedurals. If cops were like her cops, the US today would be very different.
DK – USCIS has issued a “clarification” that they didn’t mean children of U.S. citizens serving in the military or another capacity on foreign soil. They mean children of military and other government servants who are NOT citizens and are serving on foreign soil. It still stinks. I think of interpreters who put their life on the line just as much as the military do – and in any case, I believe if you are willing to and do serve in the Armed Forces, that should earn you citizenship right there

ABC: People have been calling out “Follow the money” ever since Trump set foot on the political stage, and some investigative reporters already have, so if a Democratic House majority doesn’t follow up on that now, it’ll never happen. But I seriously doubt if it’ll lead to something; not while the old elite which lost the Democrats the election in 2016 is still ruling the roost and brushing each call for impeachment aside.
DK: This declaration, with the explanation added by JD, again makes it very clear that this measure is intended for foreign military and government employees in war zones, i.e. the Middle East, and immigrants only. It is unlikely that people working for the American military or government stationed in peacefull countries would want or need their children, or themselves, to become American citizens, but those working in war-torn countries would, and would want to become citizens themselves after their American employers leave, simply to stay alive, but America doesn’t care about them. And it wants ICE to be able to deport soldiers without citizenship as soon as they’ve served, together with their children. Serfs are useful only as long as they serve.

They did not male that “clarification” contradicting Republican stated policy until AFTER people were reacting in horror.
I hope McDonnell’s source about Deutschbank proves accurate (said there were Russian oligarch co-signers on those loans no one else would provide) and perhaps we’ll see their bank copies of tax returns in Congress before the court effort to enforce the law requiring the returns be provided to Congress (saw the show in motel room on recent trip to see another former C2 friend)…relatedly, response to court suggests they got a set of tax returns related to these loans from someone beyond those named in the supoena…Read this morning of a CA woman with rare disorder whose special deferment made the first drug trial for her disorder possible, leading to the treatment keeping her alive not available in home country–that treatment began 15+ years ago paid for by private insurance and her family has been paying lots of taxes the whole time…
ASC: If the committee gets the tax returns, I assume that they can publish them as then public record. I certainly hope so.
DK: Joanne’s clarification does make a difference, but there is no way that I trust that the original sense of the rule will not turn out to be hat it really is. He has no bottom!
