It’s a very busy day today, and I’m so worn out that I overslept for an hour.  Store to Door will deliver groceries soon, and I have to unpack and put them away.  WWWendy is coming this evening.  Her sons’ father passed away, and she is taking her son to Iowa for the funeral.  She will be gone from Thursday until Monday night.  Her cousin is filling in Sunday.  We have a ton of tasks to complete.  Today I have a routine medical exam with Megan, my PCP.  Tomorrow, please expect no more than a Personal Update with no links messages on Care2.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:48 (average 6:15).  To do it, click here.   How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Why Did So Many Donald Trump Associates Lie About Contact With Russians?

Why? They lied to coverup their conspiracy with the Russians. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Attorney General William Barr has just read the classic American novel “Moby-Dick,” by Herman Melville, and found that the book contains “no evidence whatsoever of whales,” Barr stated on Tuesday.

The Attorney General issued his statement on the absence of whales in the Melville classic in a two-paragraph book report released to the news media.

“Those who read ‘Moby-Dick’ looking for whales will be sorely disappointed,” Barr wrote. “There are no whales here.”

To illustrate his point, Barr quoted the book’s first sentence: “Call me Ishmael.”

“As you can clearly see, that sentence does not have a whale in it,” Barr wrote.

Dang, Andy! If Coverup-General Barr had been a literary critic, we’d have the blessing of never having heard of him! RESIST!!

From NY Times: After years of effort, scientists at the Fish and Wildlife Service had a moment of celebration as they wrapped up a comprehensive analysis of the threat that three widely used pesticides present to hundreds of endangered species, like the kit fox and the seaside sparrow.

“Woohoo!” Patrice Ashfield, then a branch chief at Fish and Wildlife Service headquarters, wrote to her colleagues in August 2017.

Their analysis found that two of the pesticides, malathion and chlorpyrifos, were so toxic that they “jeopardize the continued existence” of more than 1,200 endangered birds, fish and other animals and plants, a conclusion that could lead to tighter restrictions on use of the chemicals.

But just before the team planned to make its findings public in November 2017, something unexpected happened: Top political appointees of the Interior Department, which oversees the Fish and Wildlife Service, blocked the release and set in motion a new process intended to apply a much narrower standard to determine the risks from the pesticides.

The Party of Death strikes again! RESIST!!

  1. 5:30 Pretty, yes. Edible? Unknown.

How often have you heard me say (or seen me type) that Lordy, I hope the WSJ is right!

Well, if you overtask, I hope you can get rested up afterward. Best to WWWendyWW, as always.

Rachel – When Scotland was a sovereign nation (and also for a while after it “merged” in “Britain” – I’m not sure of the exact dates), Scottish criminal law allowed three possible verdicts – Guilty, Not Guilty, and Not Proven. People used to joke that “Not Proven” was the equivalent of “Not guilty, but don’t do it again.”

Since our system only allows for two verdicts, and places the burden of proof on the prosecution, the only thing a jury, or a judge, or a court martial can do is issue a “Not Guilty” verdict in those cases. I sat on a court martial once where we were unanimous that the accused had committed the crimes, but also that the prosecution had not proven its case. Having, as we did, respect for the law, we had to hold our noses and vote Not Guilty. How we wished a Not Proven verdict were possible.

As described in Barr’s memo, the Mueller investigation at this point stands at the equivalent of “Not Proven.” The memo specifically stated that the investigation DID NOT EXONERATE the President. From a cover-up artist like Barr, that is actually quite a strong statement.

TNY – The one thing I don’t believe is that Barr read Moby Dick. Come on, that’s a YOOGE book with lots of WORDS in it. Republicans just don’t go there.

NYTimes – Do they not GET IT that the loss of any species, let alone 122 species, threatens the continued survival of the human race? Or do they not CARE? Probably some of each, and some of both.

Cartoon – If it’s as dangerous as pesticides … nuff said.

  2. MSNBC: I really wanted to hear Sater’s testimony on this subject, about the deceptive lies from dt’s cronies.
It will be interesting to hear his testimony.

NYer: Pretty much says it all re: Barr.

NYT: Sad. I’m concerned about the proliferation of pesticides, ($$$, of course), what it does to Mother Nature, the next generation coming up and how they will absorb this, and the future of wildlife. Dismal to say the least.

    Cartoon: Lord, have mercy!

Hope all works out good for you, medically wise. Hi, WWWendy! Hope you have a safe trip to, and back again. Get your rest, and take good care, Thanks, Tom.

  3. Bob Barr finds no evidence of whales in “Moby Dick.” That about sums it up.

  4. Rachel:: Amazing how all of his cronies can get away with their made up lies. Now the testimonial that was scheduled for tomorrow, delayed??? Crazy.
    TNY: bArrr…What a fool.
NYT:: The fact that this important report was blocked really ticks me off. Knowing the harm these pesticides were doing to all of these species and they block the report?? Insane, Heartless fools.
    Cartoon: Agree with .Pat.
Hope you have a good visit with Wendy. Wish her the best with her trip.

  5. MSNBC: Did I miss something, or was Rachel talking about Sater’s testimony being postoned until after the Muller report comes out.  If I am right, is this an old tape, the Muller re[port having come out the other day.  “It ain’t over ’till it’s over.”
    NY’R: Dr. Cover-up rides again!
NYT: THIS is Republican science, inaction, and no! that’s not a typo!
Toon: Leave it to the GOP to be sooo very independent!

  6. 4:23 Butterflies have little meat to them, so I don’t think you mind much that I leave it for Lynn to enjoy.

MSNBC: Rachel Maddow now asks the questions that have been circulating here on PP for a long time too. Why all these lies if there was nothing to hide, when all was above board? Most of us had an inkling all along, so I’ll repeat a favorite meme:

TNY: Yup, no whales here, move along. And I’ve no idea what that huge white thing behind my back is that is about to attack us.

NYT: News like this makes it hard to get up in the morning and face another day of mankind not only destroying itself but hell-bent on taking all other species down first before kicking the bucket.

Wish WWWendy a good trip from me, TomCat. I hope all goes well for you in the meantime.

  7. Thanks and rushed hugs. 26
