When I was a kid in college, we used an objectionable speaker as an occasion to demonstrate, but we would never have dreamed of trying to forbid the speech. Why drive them away, when we could expose them for the warmongers and racists they were in their presence. It was a far more effective way to change minds.
New Rule: To Hell with Halloween
If Bill is right we should change Halloween to Election Day. Republicans would spend the time cowering inside. Woooo Hoooo!

Bill – Monologue – I figured the punchline would be “… and filling it with weed and smoking it.” (rim shot) Thank you. I’ll be here all week.
Heidt – Home schooling. I blame too much home schooling. OK, sometimes it’s necessary, at least temporarily – but we need as close as we can get to all kids in public schools, and we need them run well – like, teaching facts and how to think (and art and music).
New Rules – I’ve had the same feeling about Hallowe’en – that it’s too close to Election Day – but it’s been in existence a lot longer than our Election Day. It might be easier to move Election Day. Not this year, but sometime. To before Hallowe’en. And run the government yearf from December 1 – November 30, with the Presidential inauguration on December 20. Of course it’ll never fly. No one will want to be the Congess that got truncated. But it’s a fun dream, at least to me.
