I suspect that the Bush/GOP Reich really wants to meet in Vegas, but SLC has a powerful argument for getting the goose-steppers’ convention.

LasVegasSin Salt Lake City is in the running as the possible site for the 2012 Republican National Convention, sources close to the effort have told me.

If it wins the bid, it would mean about 25,000 visitors coming to Utah’s capital city in the summer of 2012 and a boost of millions of dollars to the state’s economy.

The State Office of Economic Development made a presentation to the Republican National Committee’s site selection committee about two weeks ago.

Other cities vying for the convention are Tampa, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

Tampa, sources say, appeared to be the chosen city for the 2008 convention, but some committee members shifted their allegiance and gave it to Minneapolis, so Tampa is going all out to win the bid this year.

Las Vegas, they say, is the best equipped city for a convention of that magnitude, but some worry that the city, with its slogan, "What happens if Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas," might contain too many temptations and lead to a potential scandal in an election year.

Another question is the influence of possible presidential candidate Mitt Romney on the decision. If he seeks the presidential nomination once again, Romney, who had to deflect paranoia about his LDS faith in his 2008 presidential bid, might not want the showcase convention in the same city that is home to the world headquarters of the LDS Church… [emphasis added]

Back when I lived in Phoenix, Arizona.  I had a very close personal friend, who was, shall we say, a rather exclusive lady of the evening.  I never had an …um… business relationship with her.  And although we were attracted to each other, Carol was not willing to give up her career, and we both agreed that, if we pursued anything beyond a friendship, it would probably destroy the friendship.  Carol often told me, when there were large GOP meetings or religious right conventions in Phoenix, she and her friends imported professional ladies from Las Vegas, because the demand for services was so great that the local talent could not meet it.  I’m sure the Bush/GOP Regime will find plenty of opportunity for scandal wherever they go.

The Mormons are starting to remind me of a dog that keeps running back to its master every time he kicks it, whimpering and hoping for better treatment next time.

If Romney runs — and he's just about the only viable Republican Presidential aspirant who isn't a lunatic of some kind — the Republicans' fundamentalist base will erupt in another frenzy of Mormon-bashing just like last year. Salt Lake City will be sorry they ever invited that circus to town.

  2. Wherever there is a convention, there will be ladies of the evening.

  3. When the ladies of the evening hold a convention, I wonder what kind of entertainment they go for?

  4. Infidel, I agree that Romney is the most worrisome candidate the GOP could field. Fortunately the teabaggers will eat him alive.

True Randal, but when it was leftists, the local talent had no trouble handling the business.

LOL, Infidel!! I'm sure it isn't Vitter in diapers.

  5. Bah, I'd LMAO if one of them got busted with a hooker! That would totally make my week! And a whole group of them? I'd smile for a year! Put them in LV – and have cops outside their doors! bwahahaha! You know 'for their protection' and shit. I know, I'm evil and mean, but that shit is funny!

  6. LOL, Lisa. Go to today's top post and see Jack. He'll fix you up with a pitch fork. 🙂
