Yesterday I had a rare day without religious agony from the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  It was Denver’s bye week.  I did manage to stay up to date with comments.  I hope to do some return visits today, at last.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 4:25 (average 4:22).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From San Francisco Chronicle: San Francisco police have arrested an election worker but have not recovered 75 ballots he allegedly stole from a polling station, police said Wednesday.

Nicholas, formerly of Kentfield and San Rafael, is a computer repairman and registered Republican.

There is nothing Republicans won’t do to steal an election.

From NY Times (H/T Lisa G): Some Republican lawmakers — still reveling in Tuesday’s statewide election sweep — are proposing an unprecedented solution to the state’s [Texas] estimated $25 billion budget shortfall: dropping out of the federal Medicaid program.

Bastards!

From MSNBC:Keith Olbermann’s suspension from msnbc television for donating to three Democratic campaigns will end this coming Tuesday, NBC announced Sunday night.

We did it.  Bold progressives main petition had over 300,000 signatures.  Based on our exit clicks, around 450 of them came from right here.  MSNBC had to close theur switchboard because they could not handle the volume of calls. We can feel proud that we did our part.

  1. At least you’re not sad this week because Denver lost!

If you can’t win clean, then cheat.

Imagine all the people, on Medicaid no less, who will die because of lack of medical care. Disgusting! 😡

    Woo-hoo, Olbermann is back!

You should have looked at their platform before you voted then, dumass! 😛

    • Yeah, but they play the Chiefs next week. 😕

      That’s the Republican way.

And thank you for the tip on the article.

      Amen to that!!

  2. I’ve been worried about the corporate takeover of the government for quite some time. To put my voice to the protest, my science fiction novel, Ultimate Duty, was just released. Yes, this is a shameless promotion, but only after I asked Tom if it would be okay.

The premise is that the corporate takeover becomes complete, not only on Earth, but on all human-occupied planets. One young woman can’t stand the idea of a life working in a factory run by the corpo-government. But the only way she knows to get out is to join the military arm of the same oppressors. She discovers there is a rebellion underground growing. But, being an honorable person, she believes she must adhere to her oath to the military no matter how much she agrees with the causes of the rebellion. She has to figure out her ultimate duty. Hence the title.

Thank you for your time and for a bit of parking space here on TC’s blog (my daily must read).

    • Marva, you well know that you are the sole exception to the SPAM rule here. May I suggest putting it on the top post on any given day, because more will see it there. Always mention you have permission, like you did, so readers are not offended

      • I won’t do this as a rule, Tom. This particular book just happened to be relevant to the growth of corporate takeover of the government. It’s logical, and disgusting, extrapolation. Yeah, it’s been done in plenty of speculative fiction before, so I’m just adding to the long list.

        • And I trust you have done so superbly well. In my opinion the best Sci-Fi takes a social ill and projects its logical future. Look at Asimov.
