The sun will be hitting the wall any minute now, and I’ll have to button-up the CatBox in anticipation of 90°s temps today.  I was up late last night.  The fireworks display is only five blocks away, and the sound echoes between the downtown buildings.  This morning, I overslept.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:01 (average 6:28).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): As the movement to Abolish ICE grows, right-wing media freak out

BARF BAG ALERT!!

I have nothing against ice. At this time of year, it makes coffee quite refreshing. But let’s get rid of the fascist organization and the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Robert Reich: The 5 Principles of True Patriots

Amen! True patriots RESIST!! True patriots VOTE BLUE!!

From Politico: A pile of pending lawsuits over Donald Trump’s personal and business conduct could put his nominee to the Supreme Court in an awkward position: deciding whether to cast potentially pivotal votes on legal matters of keen importance to the president.

Virtually all justices wind up ruling on policy issues affecting the president who appointed them. But Trump is enmeshed in more than half a dozen significant court cases involving everything from his alleged sexual behavior before taking office to claims that his businesses are profiting from his presidency and allegations that he misused funds through his charitable foundation.

In addition, the Supreme Court could be asked to rule on other legal questions critical to the president, such as whether Robert Mueller’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election was legally authorized or whether Trump has the authority to dismiss the special prosecutor.

The legal pressure Trump faces on many fronts is likely to spill into the confirmation hearings for his nominee — whom he is expected to name next week to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, long seen as the court’s swing vote — as senators seek to use the high-profile platform to publicize the unusual legal predicaments.

This is partially why no Trump nomination is appropriate as long as he remains under investigation. RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

  1. 5:46 Chain tensioner sprocket. Actually that’s kind of fun to say.

    RIP Ed Schultz. So young.

    Sojourners petition for separated families

Faux – Barf Bag indeed. Hey – the entire Republican Party is a terrorist group. And STUPID! Of course this is why they get their panties in a wad about open borders (which the Founding Fathers wanted, and said so in the Declaration) and Socialism (the economic system of the happiest countries on earth – I mean, not that happiness is everything, but they also score high on things that really matter). The comment that “this is all about Trump hate” – no, turkeys, this is all about decency and respect. Hating Trump is the RESULT – because he hates decency and respect.

Reich – Oh, my. This is going to bring out the RWNJs – if they hear it. “He’s attacking us REAL patriots!” No, he isn’t. He’s not attacking anyone. He IS pointing out phony patriots. If the shoe fits, WEAR IT.

Politico – This is SO true and SO terribly important.

Cartoon I – Happy birthday indeed! And I hope much happier ones are coming.

Cartoon II – IOKIYAR, of course. Grrrrr!

  2. BBA: The repulaKons are the ones who got into this mess, and it is not talking about it…it’s about DOING something about it. Such cruelty and lame excuses are not being tolerated anymore. ICE need to be gone. NOW.

RR: Great video, Mr. Reich. Wish others would listen, and apply those principles everyday.

Politico: I hope those he (dt) chooses, gets stopped at the upcoming nomination hearings! He’s under criminal investigation !

Cartoon: Happy Birthday Pam! Hope you have a wonderful day of celebrating!

    Cartoon 2: UGH!!

I hear ya. Even after the rainstorm passing, fireworks were going on to well after midnight. (musta been some party). I’m not a drinking person, but I feel hung over today. lol. Hope you get your rest today, enjoy your evening, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. “Happy Birthday”, Pam! Enjoy your Special Day with Family & Friends.

    Hugzzz, Jim.

  4. I think that, at the very least, any Supreme Court or federal judge that comes up for confirmation should be asked if they would recuse themselves if a case that involves Trump or a case that Trump has commented on comes before them.
Unfortunately, I know of no way to hold them to it if they say the would recuse themselves.

  5. MM: I was about to reach for my barf bag when the NRA spokeswoman said: “I hate to right and left”. Do you know how hard it is to barf and ROTFLMAO at the same time? Wow, talk about being a polarized country.

Robert Reich: I was not born and bred in the USA so when the Dutch woman in me hears about all that American patriotism it usually starts to rub me the wrong way after a while. Unless it is (re)defined by Reich in a way that gives it a definite “socialist” tinge. His kind of American patriotism is one I feel comfortable with. Unlike the Right who will denounce it as part of Pirro’s socialist coup.

Politico: Name one area where Drumpf hasn’t acted in his own interests. So why should his new appointment to SCOTUS be any different? At the moment the debate seems to concentrate on abortion rights, and a justice favouring to do away with Roe v. Wade would help the GOP in the midterms, but it is also a distraction to what matters to Drumpf himself: a justice with no scruples who vote in favour of Drumpf should any of Drumpf court cases make it to SCOTUS. Keep your eyes peeled, Democrats!

???I hope you had a marvellous birthday, Pam.
May there be many more good birthdays in your future. ???

  6. Puzzle — 4:50  A Squatch unchained still can’t keep up to the Puddy Tat!

Further to JD’s note about Ed Schultz, here is his obituary in the NY Times.  RIP indeed!

    Media Matters — I have only one comment . . .

Robert Reich — AMEN!!!  To me, patriotism means loving your country, warts (Pirro, Drumpf, and Republicans you’re all so classified as ones!) and all.  But it does not stop there.  It also means being willing to help fix the warts and support the rest of the American family by voting at every opportunity . . . voting BLUE for We The People!

Politico — “… no Trump nomination is appropriate as long as he remains under investigation.” —  I respectfully disagree.  No Trump (Drumpf) nomination is appropriate ever!

Cartoons — National Labour Relations Board . . . so “commie” eh!  Let’s here a big shout out to the NRLB and what they do for American workers.

    Happy Birthday Pam!!!!

  7. Thanks, hugs and amen to all. 17
