RepubliCare is Coming

Republicans have been lying about health care since long before the ACA, affectionately and hatefully known as ObamaCare passed.  Republicans are still lying about health care, but now they have almost finished dismantling ObamaCare.  The handwriting is on the wall.  RepubliCare is coming.

Senate Republicans really want you to believe that they want to keep all the popular consumer protections in the Affordable Care Act, like coverage for pre-existing conditions. "Everybody I know in the Senate—everybody—is in favor of maintaining coverage for pre-existing conditions," Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says. "There is no difference in opinion about that whatsoever." The chairman of the Health committee, Sen. Lamar Alexander agreed, saying "Congress specifically repealed the individual mandate penalty, but I didn’t hear a single senator say that they also thought they were repealing protections for people with pre-existing conditions."

So what’s Alexander doing sending a letter to the Trump administration, along with 30 other Republican senators, telling Trump to speed up the rules for allowing people to by junk insurance, that doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions?

Alexander and team (look, there’s Nevada’s most endangered Republican, Sen. Dean Heller!) say that allowing association health plans (AHPs) can provide "a lower cost alternative with the same sort of consumer protections and tax breaks that apply to employees who receive health care insurance from large employers." Except as the proposed rule is written, the plans would not have to comply with some of Obamacare’s coverage requirements and patient protections. So cheap, skimpy plans that don’t cover actual health issues would be allowed again… [emphasis added]

As soon as such plans are allowed, they will become the norm of what will be subsidized for people who cannot afford full converge.  Republicans will take tax money from citizens and give it to greedy insurance companies.  The beneficiaries who cannot pay will still get the free RepubliCare Death Benefit.  They get to die for no additional charge.

  1. I doubt whether anyone whose net worth is below $100 million is going to be able to weather this with no difficulty. I actually have a charmed combination of coverages from a prior employer to supplement Medicare plus Part D, but, of course, that could change as well, with all this pressure from Republicare. I shudder to think what will happen to everyone else.

  2. Yes, what a horrifying state of affairs we’re (all) in for now. Unreal.

  3. “Republicare” is an oxymoron.

  4. “President Trump,” is an oxymoron on steroids!!
The initial ‘toon is reminiscent of the hijacking of the Achille Lauro, and the effect is the same!

  5. 19Sigh, some things do not change but only get worse. Time to get this old chestnut out again:

  6. Republicare = Republicans do NOT care!

“Senate Republicans really want you to believe that they want to keep all the popular consumer protections in the Affordable Care Act, like coverage for pre-existing conditions.” — Is that why they tried to repeal the ACA, what, 53 times and spent millions of dollars on the repeal campaign and votes?  BTW, that was tax payer funded partisan bullshit, not Republican money.

  7. Thanks, hugs and Amen! 35
