Here is the one hundred tenth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre. He is so honored for his Republican conspiracy theories, invented to continue the Republican tradition of trading children’s lives for gun profits.
The head of the biggest gun lobby in the US has accused Democrats of pushing a "socialist" agenda to deprive gun owners of their weapons, in an uncompromising speech just a week after 17 people died in the Florida school shooting.
Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association, made no attempt to moderate his message a day after survivors of the Parkland shooting faced down lawmakers in a CNN debate and the President at the White House. Instead, he told conservative activists that voters should be "frightened" of any future Democrat election victories, and accused Democrats of exploiting the deaths in an effort to destroy the Second Amendment.
"Socialism is a movement that loves a smear," he said.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual gathering of conservatives outside Washington, LaPierre warned Democrats would use the tragedy to push an agenda that went beyond gun control. "What they want is more restrictions on the law-abiding," LaPierre said. "They want to sweep right under the carpet the failure of school security."
Staring out into the audience, LaPierre told them "you should be anxious and you should be frightened" about the potential of another Democratic takeover of the House, Senate and White House.
"If they seize power … our American freedoms could be lost and our country will be changed forever," he said. "The first to go will be the Second Amendment."…

Bullshit Bag Alert!!
Is that projection or what? No Democrats want the things he claims. The common sense items I favor are closing the gun show loophole, requiring a better background check. I also favor requiring certification of proficiency in gun handling and safety, and requiring special permits for assault weapons. It’s having different classes of firearms licenses the way we have different classes of motor vehicle licenses. Like virtually all other Democrats, the only people, whose guns I want to take away, are those people shouldn’t have guns for cause. Nobody is talking about taking guns from law abiding citizens, except Republican conspiracy theorists.
I’ve written about LaPierre at least a dozen times over the years, and I’m shocked that I’ve never given him a parade before. God knows he deserves it!
RESIST THE REPUBLICAN REICH!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
“Socialism is a movement that loves a smear.” Qui parle! Look at the smears that the gun freaks directed at the Douglas High survivors.
Is this not the same speech at which, as Raw Story reported this morning. the lack of enthusiasm by the conservative students in his audience was so obvious that even he noticed it? I thought that tidbit was just about the best news I have had since late 2016.
Indeed it is the same speech! ?
Gawd, how awful !!! Downright sickening!!
I am not a lawyer, but as far as I’m concerned I feel that Wayne LaPierre is committing slander and libel.
He gets away with saying these absolutely horrendous things that have no relation to the truth.
He says these things for the sole purpose of stirring up the hateful passions of his followers.
Richard, I’m not a lawyer, either, but I agree with you, except that i also believe that the purpose of his stirrings is to keep the NRA running the show. But, maybe you assumed that all along.
The kinds of things LaPierre banters about are tantamount to yelling “Fire!” in a crowded movie theater, and ought not be protect by free speech. Most of the crap the right wing-nuts put out are of that sort.
Talking at the CPAC, one must expect the s**tholes to bring out their most outrageous ideas, or just make new ones up, custom made for THAT audience!
I’m sorry too that you haven’t given LaPierre a parade before, TomCat, because I think this excuse for a human being has only gotten worse over time and now makes me so sick to his stomach with his stirring up trigger-happy ammosexuals against individual Democratic politicians he calls “new European-style Socialists” (twice), that it’ll take me even longer to recover.
But he may have a some point there in all his smearing; in Europe he would have been dragged in front of a court by those European-style Socialists for hate-speech and dangerous rebel-rousing and convicted the way Geert Wilders and Marine Le Pen were.
Can we lend him to you?
Anybody ever notice how eerily similar Wayne LaPierre looks like that Nazi in the face-melting scene from “Raiders of the Lost Ark”?
Coinkydink? I think NOT!
I had not noticed but I think you’re correct! Maybe LaPierre will melt away too! (Well I can dream can I not?)
I never saw Raiders … but, thankfully, you are always ready with visual evidence.
Yuck!
LaPierre is a vile individual (individual what, I do not know, but certainly not human!). He throws around the term “European style socialism” as if it is a death sentence on the US. Well I’ll take ESS any day.
“…and accused Democrats of exploiting the deaths in an effort to destroy the Second Amendment.” — I have not heard one word from a Democrat urging the repeal of the 2nd amendment which I know would have to go through a lengthy process including ratification by the states. The ones that I see exploiting this tragedy for political gain are Republicans.
Katie & Bill on Care2 provided the following list with the comment “There are more.” NRA supported Republicans: THE One’s taking $$$$$ from the NRA get them out of office!
TRUMPY TOOK 12 MILLION, Well he won’t do anything
MCCAIN OVER 7 MILLION
PORTMAN FROM OHIO TOOK OVER 3 MILLION
RICHARD BURR, N.C. 6.99 MILLION
ROY BLUNT, MO 4.55 MILLION
THOM TILLIS N.C. 4.55 MILLION
CORY GARDENER, CO 4.42 MILLION
FRENCH HILL, AR 1.09 MILLION
KEN BUCK, CO 800,544
DAVID YOUNG , IA 707,662
MIKE SIMPSON, ID 385,731
GREG GIANFORTE , MO 344,630
Is it any wonder why Drumpf signed an executive order in 2017 loosening the guidelines for gun ownership for certain “classes” of people like the mentally ill? Quid Pro Quo for $12 million in donations!
The NRA, as it exists today, should be declared a domestic terrorist organisation.
There are a lot of American deaths that can be attributed back to Republicans, and not just gun deaths. Every Republican in office is one Republican too many!
And that doesn’t count the secret money, which is far more.
Thanks all. Hugs! ?
