Sanction the Nazis

When a state goes rogue and becomes an international pariah, the civilized nations of the world often impose sanctions on that rogue state, just as the US, Europe, and most of the rest of the world imposed sanctions on the Russia for invading Ukraine.  In like manner, the Nazis responsible for the US withdrawal  from the Paris climate accords should be sanctioned.  Sadly, sanctions against the US would not work.  They would make the American people suffer, but Trump delights in doing that himself.  The vast majority of the American People are not Nazis.  The majority od Republicans are not Nazis.  Even some Republican politicians and pundits are not Nazis.  So what an I suggesting?

0602ClimateAccords

Only future generations will be able to calculate the full consequences of President Trump’s incredibly shortsighted approach to climate change, since it is they who will suffer the rising seas and crippling droughts that scientists say are inevitable unless the world brings fossil fuel emissions to heel.

But this much is clear now: Mr. Trump’s policies — the latest of which was his decision to withdraw from the 2015 Paris agreement on climate change — have dismayed America’s allies, defied the wishes of much of the American business community he pretends to help, threatened America’s competitiveness as well as job growth in crucial industries and squandered what was left of America’s claim to leadership on an issue of global importance.

The only clear winners, and we’ve looked hard to find them, are hard-core climate deniers like Scott Pruitt at the Environmental Protection Agency and the presidential adviser Stephen Bannon, and various fossil fuel interests that have found in Mr. Trump another president (George W. Bush being the last) credulous enough to swallow the bogus argument that an agreement to fight climate change will destroy or at least inhibit the economy.

Mr. Trump justified his decision by saying that the Paris agreement was a bad deal for the United States, buttressing his argument with a cornucopia of dystopian, dishonest and discredited data based on numbers from industry-friendly sources. Those numbers are nonsense, as is his argument that the agreement would force the country to make enormous economic sacrifices and cause a huge redistribution of jobs and economic resources to the rest of the world…

From <NY Times>

Lawrence O'Donnell discusses the issue with Dan Rather.

Macron was right to separate the American Reich from the American People.

The Rachel Maddow Show interviewed Gov. Jerry Brown about what other localities, states and countries can do.

I fully support Under 2°.  Oregon is a state Signatory and Portland is a city Signatory, but we still need sanctions.

The civilized nations of the world should sanction the Trump family.  Seize all Trump family real estate, products, and cash flows belonging to Trump, his children and Kushner.  Hold them in escrow until Trump relents.

  1. Macron's address was remarkable and wonderful.  Incidentally, it prompted a Daily Kos user to post this:

I wonder how many people who believe that "history is going to punish" the Evil Emperor have considered that history may very well be over.  As for "psychologocally troubled" – although it can be argued interminably which is cause and which is effect, being a criminal often goes with being "psychologically disturbed."

I did like Jerry Brown better when he was Governor Moonbeam, but I still like him, and I'm grateful that he is Governor of California today.

  2. Dismal to say the least. He's taken us backwards on every issue since he's been in office.

3 states. NY,  CA. and WA stand in agreement with the Paris Climate accord. Formation of "United States Climate Alliance". The newly formed Mayors National Climate Action Agenda have also got on board. 61 cities so far.

    Good link there, Tom. Thanks!

  4. I tried to put a crying face on the above because that is all I can think to do about Trump right now, cry.  crying crying crying

Is this not what the US does . . . sanction a country but also sanction key people from those countries that are involved?  I seem to recall reading about that over the years.  I am not suggesting going after the country as most of the country, when it comes to the Paris climate agreement, agrees that the country should stay in.  But Drumpf and his family holdings, with which in my opinion he is still involved, should be subject to sanctions and that will make Drumpf angrier.

I am really pleased that Jerry Brown wants to include Canada and Mexico in the climate action plan.  I am also very pleased to see some states and a growing number of cities sticking with climate action plans.

I also liked Dan Rather's report about Drumpf.

" …he's mad, he has some rage, he's scared, what he knows of the Russian narrative is closing in on him, still the investigation about his tax returns is closing in on him, he just returned from his European trip and he is angry with the leader of Germany, Ms Markel, and the new leader of France.

What we have is a president that is lashing out in anger. …"

I was reading a few days ago and the term used to describe Drumpf was "tyrannical toddler" and it is so apt.

    • Not specificially.  But in practice it works out that way.  Jerry didn't include them.  He's just latching onto what Under 2° is already doing.

  6. It was absolutely no surprise, at least not to anyone outside of the US, that Drumpf would pull America out of the Paris Accord, because he's already had started the process by reversing all decisions Obama had taken to curb Carbon and Methane emissions and taking America back to the coal age. He just couldn't say so at the G6 + 1 summit, because the world press would have torn him apart and Drumpf's ego can't take that. No he had to wait until he was back on American soil, was given the alternative facts from a study study commissioned by the American Council for Capital Formation and the US Chamber of Commerce, two longstanding corporate anti-tax lobbying groups, and have Pence praise him to high heavens as powerful leader before he could tell Americans of his decision before a sympathetic Republican audience.

The only good thing about this is that it has given rise to another large group of Americans, ranging from dissatisfied to enraged, who are willing to battle the Drumpf administration on yet another issue of world importance. Kudos to the growing number of  states, cities, corporations and individuals who have already engaged in the fight against global warming and are willing to continue, and those who are now willing to join in, no matter what Drumpf and his rich cronies say.

  7. Trump to planet:  Drop Dead

    Planet to Trump:  You First

  8. Thanks all!  Hugs!

  9. It had been apparent that Rumpy would retreat to to home grounds before annoncing his twisted decision. His bowing tonthe propaanda of the fossil fuel industry is reminiscent, to me anyway, of Ronnie Ray Gun haviingstarted as a Democrat, but listeong to the BS whispered into his ears by  the  Hollywood mogul who "turned" him.

Assuming his cotinuing attempts to quiet Comey run into a solid roadblock, we will soon see him having his very own personal global meltdown.
