Eric Holder answered his critics yesterday by indirectly pointing out the moral cowardice of the GOP critics of his decision to showcase our justice system.

holder-cspan In his opening remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning, Attorney General Eric Holder responded to criticisms about his decision to bring five terror suspects, including 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Opponents of the decision have said a civilian trial will give Mohammed a platform to spew jihadist rhetoric.

"I’m not scared of what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has to say at trial," Holder said. "And no one else needs to be afraid either."

"I have every confidence that the nation and the world will see him for the coward that he is," Holder said.

"We need not cower in the face of this enemy. Our institutions are strong, our infrastructure is sturdy, our resolve is firm and our people are ready," Holder said. "It is past time to finally act by bringing prosecutions."… [emphasis added]

That’s the only response the rabid right knows.  If it disagrees, kill it.  The way the right is trolling for assassins, comments like this one do not surprise me, but I do feel intense anger over them.

  1. I'm guessing Ron in Cal, after posting that from his basement, asked mom if she could pick up some more Cheetos.

The Manliest Men Of Manliness, Ever, are nothing but pure, unadulterated cowards.

  2. Excellent Randal! I have a great deal of respect for Holder.

  3. Well said, Randal.

    Mike, So do I.

  4. I respect Holder for his integrity in upholding the legal system and the Constitution in the face of intense opposition.

  5. This is the first thing of Holder that he's done that I've liked. I think he's a little too close to Obama; I'd like a more independent and ballsier AG. But, he's a vast improvement over Gonzales, but that ain't sayin' much.

I still think he should go after Bush, Cheney, et al – he has the power to do it and it wouldn't reflect back onto Obama, as long as Obama stayed neutral on the matter. He could be like a rogue AG – something we need. Or he could just extradite them to the Hague – I'm fine with that too. But then I like to live in utopia land, mostly in my own mind. πŸ™‚

  6. Ladies, I agree with you both. While Holder is showing courage to stand fast in this matter, his failure to enforce US law, which demands that we uphold our treaty obligations under several international agreements we have signed. To fulfill those, we must investigate the war criminals and take appropriate action against them.

  7. I would love to see Holder go against the previous administration, not to stick a political dagger into them, but to actually find the truth and punish those accountable.

Every time there were criticisms, Dick Cheney would come out of hiding and attack the administration. If they did nothing wrong, then they should not be afraid to let Holder go at it.

I love how the conservative pundits keep stating Obama is the one putting these terrorists in New York. Obama this, Obama that. What did Bush's Attorney Generals ever do?

Mukasey had stated once "not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime," or Gonzalas' belief that Habeas Corpus is not a right, and lets not forget Ashcroft's attack on our civili liberties…

  8. Kevin I agree. This is not abloy political revenge. It's about bringing what we say we do into line with what we actually do.
