I slept pretty well last night.  Today is forecast for sunny weather and a seasonable high of 65°, but it is still muggy, currently 90%.  Wendy is due soon.  When she leaves at around Noon, I’ll check for French election results, and may add a second article.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:53 (average 4:48).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (SNL Channel): Morning Joe Cold Open

Seriously, now that we know the two are involved, it’s easy so see why Mika let herself play the weak token opponent all these years. Joe couldn’t stand up to a real Democrat. Apologies to those where SNL is blocked.  RESIST!!

From NY Times: In a suburban Chicago district, Kelly Mazeski, a breast cancer survivor, used the day of the vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act to announce her House candidacy, vowing to make Representative Peter Roskam pay for his vote “to make Americans pay more and get less for their health care.”

In western New York, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul has stirred talk of a congressional race with her slashing criticism of Representative Chris Collins, who rallied fellow Republicans to vote for the health measure, then conceded in a national television interview that he had not read the bill.

And in suburban Philadelphia, Chrissy Houlahan, an Air Force veteran challenging Representative Ryan A. Costello, said she would make Mr. Costello’s decision to support the bill in committee, before opposing it on the floor, a central issue.

It is far too early to determine whether 2018 will bring a political wave, but the House’s approval of a deeply unpopular health care bill on Thursday has handed Democrats a potent line of attack for the midterm elections. While Republicans believe that fulfilling a seven-year promise on health care will energize their base next year, Democrats are anticipating a backlash that may put in jeopardy a Republican House majority that once seemed unshakable.

May this be the rope that hangs every House Republican! RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: Let’s all enjoy (and by enjoy, I mean RAGE, RAGE, RAGE about) Rep. Glenn Grothman mansplaining to a crowd of men and women at a town hall that he’s A-OK with voting to defund Planned Parenthood because women can simply get birth control and reproductive services at the pharmacy or even the grocery store! Cancer screenings? Meh. Quit your whining, ladies.

Barf Bag Alert!!

Click through for transcript.  See the pig lie. Lie pig, lie. Why does the pig lie? The pig is a Republican. That’s why. Make the pig lie from an unemployment line! RESIST!!

  1. 3:35  Attractive.

You know, I just did those Dem earrings for personal therapy.  But if someone is interested in some earrings that make a serious statement and provide funds for progressive work, check this out:  https://codepink.myshopify.com/products/drop-earrings-not-bombs  They are made by a Syrian refugee in Istanbul, and each one is different.

SNL – What a great reason NOT to watch Morning Joe!  LOL!

NYT – You know, when Nancy Pelosi cracked the line, "Let's pass the bill so we can find out what's in it," she was JOKING!  Leave it to Republicans to make satire into reality!

DK – Oh. My. God.  Yes.  Read the comments too.  He has to have been talking about condoms.  Or I guess in some states the sponge is back.  (But HE isn't spongeworthy.  And I'm sure I have a lot of backup on that.  He is 61, never married.)  He might be able to take the title from Louie Gohmert if he survives 2018, which I surely hope he doesn't.

Cartoon – Hmmm.  According to Republicans, I was a person then.

  2. SNL: Good spoof, I can't stand Joe, and stopped watching the show years ago. I didn't even know they were together. Kate plays Mika wonderfully though!

NYT: Glad to read the ladies (Dems), are ready to fire back!!

DK: Doesn't surprise me, at his stupidity in answering questions. Meanwhile in Texas…. Oink!! Oink!!

    Cartoon: You bet!!

Glad that you got your chores done, and some rest too! Enjoy your evening, and take care.
    Thanks, Tom.

*Joanne, Thank you for the link. I'll look at later.

  3. Puzzle — 3:53  I can feel that sea breeze on my face now!  Wonderful!!!  No time for racing around on a puzzle,

NY Times — I think Republicans will find that there are more people in their base that support Obamacare than originally thought, and that may very well come back to bite them in the ass!  This is an opportunity for Democrats to move forward but they can't take things for granted.  They must work it and not play silly bugger.

Daily Kos — Too bad an intelligence test can not be administered to all Republicans before they take office!  That might serve to weed out the likes of Goh-merde and Grothman!

Cartoon — They may not give up, but they can still be defeated and thrown out into the permanent unemployment line!

    Resist and Persist!!!

Well I finished my walk today under warm, sunny skies.  My knees and lower back were sore by the end so I went home to rest.  I did not sleep much last night as I was afraid I'd sleep in so I am extra tired to boot.  Although I raised $1,400, I am hoping there will still be a few more sponsorships in the next day or so.

    • Congratulations on finishing the whole Alzheimer's Walk for Memories, Lynn. What a wonderful job. Sorry about the pain in knees and lower back, though. I hope that will go away with some rest soon.

      • Gorgeous cat whose name is Ptolemy.  Apparently he fractured a metatarsal bone in his right-rear foot.

        • Thanks, Nameless. I just quickly googled for an image of sleeping cat with a bandaged legs to illustrate and didn't get the whole story. I hope Lynn doesn't feel the need for competition as she's already injured her foot/feet painfully enough these past few years.

          • I'm not competitive that way!  Ptolemy  is a fine royal name from ancient Macedonia and Egypt which ended with the death of Cleopatra.

The pain has abated quite a bit, especially in the knees so I know that my physio has been working.  I had chiro today, my annual reëvaluation, and I continue to make progress but my lower back was way out — he could feel my pelvis from the back which is unusual.  He has job security with me!

          • In Google Chrome, just hover your cursor over the photo, right-click & select "Search Image" – that's how I learned Ptolemy's history.

I will say he is an amazingly GORGEOUS cat.  I've never, ever had a cat that beautiful.

Fortunately the love of my critters has never been rationed by their appearance – or their demeanor, as witnessed by my current critter's affliction of cat-bite cellulitis

    • Congrats ans HUGE kudos!!

  4. Thanks for your second article on the French Presidential election, TomCat. Great stuff, as is this Open Thread of course!

SNL: Precious. I know nothing more of "Morning Joe" than what I get to see here at PP, but if there is a romance blooming between the two the SNL team had that down to a T. And their "normal behavior" too, of course. Now it's out in the open, Mika's place will soon be taken by some other token Democrat, I guess. Her weak "Democratic" input will be even less convincing now that it's known they're a couple, even to those few "Morning Joe" watchers left.

NYT: Excellent news! The more Republicans are challenged in their district by Democrats on their vote for Drumpfcare in 2018 the better. And note that these three examples are all males chalenged by women, giving these ladies even more of a chance of winning, because "women care" is going to do well for them. Now DNC and DCCC, do what you must do: stand by these women and make sure they win.

DK: Okay, when is Rep. Glenn Grothman up for reelection? Because with a little editing you have the most perfect Democratic ad which will terminate his political career there and then. And the beauty is he's dug that grave all by himself. Nobody asked him to lie and hide behind "not prepared for questions" at a town-hall meeting. But this is what people can expect from a Republican who seems to buy his condoms for "private use" at the supermarket so nobody gets to know about them.

  5. Thanks and Hugs!
