MLKDay

It was a pleasure to work with Dr. King on Vietnam Summer.  Of all the people I have met in my life, he stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Normally, I would wish you a Happy Martin Luther King Day, but my conscience will not allow it at a time when Donald Trump and the Republican Party have trashed so much od what he accomplished, and today, Dr. King would grieve.  But he would also…

RESIST!!

  1. Dr. King would grieve.  But he would also…

You are so right.  He would indeed resist.  And we must do so too.

  2. Dr. King was a mentor, teacher, leader, motivator, preacher, a Visionary. He was also an advocate of nonviolence and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

He's marching right along side with us (in Spirit), as we RESIST! Rest in Peace, Dr. King.

  3. I fervently hope that Dr. King was correct when he said:

"We shall overcome; we shall overcome, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome.

“And I believe it because somehow the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.”

  4. Somehow, some way, some day, we will be rid of the Orange-man and his cronies!

    RESIST!

  5. Yesterday at church, the children's time was about racism and discrimination and Pastor Dave told the kids about MLK Jr.  I was so proud of those kids when they piped up that they were offended when they were told to "sit at the back of the bus". They were very adamant that God did not like this and they didn't either.  Clearly parents are reinforcing the true Christian value of inclusion.  He also mentioned that he had studied with Coretta Scott King one summer in the late 80's.  I do have to say that our congregation is predominantly white, with East Asian, Syrian, Asian and African people, and growing more diverse all the time.  Shortly after came the sermon with references to MLK, and Drumpfenfarten.  It is almost an oxymoron to have those two mentioned together.  You can bet that Drumpfenfarten was not demonstrating during the Vietnam years, except at being a coward with his education and medical deferrments.  He provided some quotes but we did not listen to MLK Jr's address on the Mall.

Yesterday, a P/U truck drove along Marshall Rd in Abbotsford, BC showering the residential area with zip-loc baggies filled with rice and KKK propaganda all because it was MLK Jr Day in the US.  This also happened back in October 2016 and it is thought to be the work of the same people.  See News 1130 article.  Abbotsford is in the Fraser Valley just outside Metro Vancouver and is in the midst of the local Bible belt.  Fortunately, people who reported receiving this were not interested in the KKK message.  I guess they don't know the Supply Side Jesus of Republican lore . . . fortunately!

Two of my "heros" were MLK Jr and Mahatma Gandhi, both of whom would not like being referred to as heros, I am sure. However they both put non violence at the head of their struggles for justice.  And as I recall, MLK Jr was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi.  What I wouldn't give to be able to talk to these two men!

    Resist = Overcome = Justice

    Resist!!!

  6. To resist is the only reasonable thing to do.

  7. Resist in the spirit of MLK.

  8. Thanks all!  Hugs!!

  9. Absolutely we need to RESIST the Trump regime, not just in the spirit of MLK, but in the spirit of what the USA is supposed to represent. Rise up, organize, raise hell!
