I’m waiting for my grocery delivery from Safeway.com to arrive. It’s another slow day for news. Last night, Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell all took the night off. My YouTube subscriptions were more nekkid than a TomCat in a depilatory factory. The Gray Lady looked anorexic. Therefore this is today’s only article. Tomorrow, I may have no more than a Personal Update. Because Wendy is off from school, she wants to come in the morning, instead of the evening. When she’s done, I have to go out to the bank, because it’s the only day this week with no rain, snow or ice forecast.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:53 (average 5:34). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Fantasy Football Report:
Here’s the latest in our own fantasy football league, Lefty Blog Friends.
Congrats to Matt and Robb for making it to the championship game.
Short Takes:
From NY Times: Undeterred by a resounding defeat at the United Nations, Israel’s government said Monday that it would move ahead with thousands of new homes in East Jerusalem and warned nations against further action, declaring that Israel does not “turn the other cheek.”
Just a few days after the United Nations Security Council voted to condemn Israeli settlements, Jerusalem’s municipal government signaled that it would not back down: The city intends to approve 600 housing units in the predominantly Palestinian eastern section of town on Wednesday in what a top official called a first installment on 5,600 new homes.
The defiant posture reflected a bristling anger among Israel’s pro-settlement political leaders, who not only blamed the United States for failing to block the Council resolution, but also claimed to have secret intelligence showing that President Obama’s team had orchestrated it. American officials strongly denied the claim, but the sides seem poised for more weeks of conflict until Mr. Obama hands over the presidency to Donald J. Trump.
At that point, Butcher Bibi can complete the slaughter of the Palestinian people, while Resident Nincompoop Nazi watches and cheers. Resist!!
From Liberals Unite!: Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) told MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff that she would refuse to meet with Trump at the White House and vowing to “fight him every inch of the way.”
Suboroff began the interview asking if Rep. Waters agreed with Senate Minority Leader Chuch Schumer’s strategy to work with Trump whenever possible or if she thought that “Democrats are being too nice” to the president-elect.
Waters blasted Trump in response telling Soboroff: “I tell you, that has been a problem in my party. That when we are in power, we’re nice. We bend over backwards to work with people.”
Spot on Maxine! Would that all Democrats had such big brass balls! Resist!!
From Salon.com: Julian Assange — who once argued that “since unjust systems, by their nature induce opponents, and in many places barely have the upper hand, mass leaking leaves them exquisitely vulnerable to those who seek to replace them with more open forms of government” — came out with high praise for both President-elect Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica on Friday.
I know many progressives consider this criminal a hero. This confirms my repeated claim to the contrary, since he became Putin’s stooge. Resist!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
3:59 Are they trying to kill us with all that sugar? Or am I overreacting?
Well, enjoy the bank run. I try to do all my banking from home, but there are still things that force me out as well. Have fun with the groceries too.
NYT – Perhaps he thinks it will be easier to genocide the Jews in Israel if the Palestinians are genocided first. Or perhaps that's just what he's telling his staff. Barf. (And isn't everything always Obama's fault, back to the crucifixion?)
LU! – Now, THAT is huevos! What committees is she on, and if not, why not?
SALON – Progressives, like Conservatives, need to learn that because a person says one thing you like, that does not make the person a hero, nor does it even mean he/she is telling the truth. I gues I should have said HUMANS need to learn that.
Cartoon – May she rest in peace. And may Carrie Fisher rest in peace. She inspired many young feminists in her day. Another sad loss to chalk up to 2016.
RESIST !!!
I do love that Maxine Waters! A strong woman with a good backbone – unlike a lot of wimpy others.
Have lost all respect I ever had for Assange….
Carrie Fisher, Child of Hollywood and ‘Star Wars’ Royalty, Dies at 60
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/27/movies/carrie-fisher-dead-star-wars-princess-leia.html?_r=0
I remember Star Wars, the first one in 1977 (almost 40 years ago), and standing in line, a block + long in Berkeley, CA. The inside air of the theater reeked heavily of MaryJane. Back in that time, people could smoke inside while watching the movie. I remember the audible and loud gasp from the audience as Han's ship went into hyper drive. I remember Carrie's acting as Leia in the film as a strong, no nonsense character. I also remember Leia's outfit from the scene with Jabba the Hut as it was quite memorable, lol. Sorry to hear of Carrie's passing.
.
LU: Finally! A woman with bolas de latón!! Refreshing video, spot on, Ms. Waters. She's a ranking member of the Financial Services Committee.
Salon: Yes, Resist!!!
Cartoon: I remember watching the movie, years ago, regarding her love and research, and feeling sadness with the (murder) death of Digit, one of Fossey's gentle giant friends. Such an amazing woman. Rest in Peace, Ms. Fossey.
Also, I remember seeing Star Wars, and like Jim said, it was a different world back then. We went and saw the first movie, 6 times. A classic. I enjoyed Carrie Fisher as an actress. My condolences to her family, and community. So sad.

It's balmy here,@72, and have been outside weeding. Hope that you have a good day/evening. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.
Thanks for the information. Financial Services – probably a good place.
It's good to enjoy the lull in news and perhaps get some personal stuff done, TomCat. You'll need all your strength and wit in the coming months. Prepare yourself for what will hopefully be the shortest reign ever.
NYT: Because America is Israel's largest sponsor of both money and weaponry, and because the Obama administration is on the way out, Israel thinks that it can defy any UN resolution and even put the blame for it on Obama. They're quite convinced Drumpf is going to stick to his promises. Apparently they are just as gullible as the Drumpf voters. Drumpf may want to stick to his friend Putin rather than to Netanyahu and will need the money for their nuke plans. Then Israel will have burnt all the ships behind it and will be on its own. But until then the Palestinians will have to endure more of their land taken, being driven out of their homes, military law and neve rending suppression and killing. More of the same, really, but even more cruel and intens than before.
LU: Kudos to Maxine Waters and her brass balls. Finally it's starting to dawn on (some) Democrats that being nice and bending over doesn't get them any votes. Their liberal/progressive ideas aren't worth the paper they're written on if Democrats aren't willing to fight for them and instead meekly "work with Drumpf/Republicans wherever possible". The only way forward is
RESIST!
Salon: Assange is a sad and broken man who'll do anything to get out of that embassy without being extradited and charged with treason. And if that means he needs to crawl up Drumpf's and Putin's backsides and work for them, he'll do just that. It also means he's so desperate that he thinks he can trust them. People in his native country call a man like that a stupid bugger.
Cartoon: We do well to remember her violent death and the great loss to the conservationist community.
I wish we had more Democrats like Maxine Waters. I have been fighting a respiratory infection for the last three weeks, I think it is winning. Thanks for posting, TC.
If you have a respiratory infection, don't mess with it . . . get some antibiotics. Respiratory infections and I have gone steady for years and only antibiotics break the stranglehold. Lots of tea and water too.
Hope you feel better soon.
Please listen to Lynn's and Lona's sound advise, Edie. I hope you feel better soon.
Please listen to Lynn's sound advise, Edie. I hope you feel better soon.
I will get behind everyone else, with only the caveat to have the doctor make sure it is bacterial before prescribing antibiotics. But if it is viral or fungal it's even more important th listen to the doctor and follow advice, since those may be tougher to treat.
Thanks to all of you for caring. I have seen the doctor, been x rayed and tested. I just finished a round of levaquin, hopefully, it will kill the bugs. If not, I am instructed to report back to my MD. He actually called to check on me today.
Sweet. He sounds like a keeper.
Good!
Puzzle — 3:27 Just looking at all that sugar, my teeth are standing on end and saluting! Ugh . . .
FF — ugh! . . . What goes up eventually must come down.
NY Times — Contemptible Bibi incites Palestinian violence, and then has the audacity to wage war on the Palestinians and blame them for the violence. In another article with video, Bibi is heard saying "Friends work with friends, they do not take them to the Security Council". Of course Butcher Bibi is blaming all this, and then some, on Obama. IMO, Israel is a lousy neighbour because of Netanyahu and his ilk. And of course, the new Agent Orange will sing Netanyahu's praises and do his bidding.
Liberals Unite — Maxine Waters is spot on! Trump is a serial liar, a deceiver, an incompetent, and someone who only thinks of himself. It is interesting that, as recently reported, coal workers who voted for Trump are now worried about losing Obamacare. And I dare say that there are others on the verge of buyer's remorse.
RESIST!!!!!
Salon.com — People with half a brain should realise that Russia is not a bastion of freedom of speech or freedom of the press.
I sometimes wonder if Assange was always enamoured with Russia, or did he develop his clouded vision over a relatively short period.
Cartoon — Great loss! It would be no loss if that Republican elephant ie the Republican Party were found dead.
RESIST!!!!!
Just wanted to share a comment on the Daily Kos article about the Rockettes:
It sure had me laughing.
"a TomCat in a depilatory factory" — Now that idea is both frightening and funny!
Thanks all. Hugs!!
