Yesterday afternoon, I discovered that when I see two carafes full of coffee in my hand, and see two burners on the coffee maker, it’s easy to put the right eye’s carafe on the left eye’s burner. ARGH! Cleaning all that coffee from the floor took me over an hour. I could actually turn off my A/C for the first time since last Wednesday. If only it would last. I’m getting ready to leave for my Podiatrist appointment. I won’t publish this before I return, and this will be my only article today.
The trip went without incident, and the foot is in excellent shape. As expected,. George’s foot needed no care.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 2:55 (average 8:58). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From KP Daily Funnies: John Oliver Asks Donald Trump To "Drop Out"
Oliver is both right and funny, but Trump won’t do it.
From NY Times: As he seeks to revive his embattled candidacy, Donald J. Trump has seized on a new argument to rally his supporters and to explain away a possible defeat in November: that Democrats are preparing to exploit weak voter identification laws to win a “stolen election” through fraudulent voting.
The claim has spurred outrage among Democrats and has alarmed some Republicans who worry his tactics will backfire, angering minority voters and threatening the party’s chances in close races down the ballot.
Since 2010, Republican governors and Republican-held state legislatures have fought for stricter voter identification laws, which Democrats argue are intended to hinder turnout by the poorest voters, many of them black and Hispanic, who tend to vote Democratic.
From a Republican perspective, Trump is right. Weak voter ID laws in some locations will actually allow some Democrats and independents to exercise their right to vote while Black, Latino, Asian, Poor, Disabled, Unionized, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Transgender, Female, and/or any other people, who Republicans are trying to disenfranchise.
From Think Progress: Al Gore lost the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush in part because of votes lost to third-party candidates. He has a simple message for fellow climate hawks who are contemplating a third-party vote in 2016: Please don’t.
Amen! Please click through for the rest of Gore’s message.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
It's true about the water draining. I remember checking in Patagonia. I was a bit disappointed in the Southern Cross, though. Well, at least I have seen it. Cheers…
Welcome HM.
Oh, hi, hillsmom! Nice to see another Sylvia fan!
4:48 Must be new. The puzzle, of course, not the architecture, which does have some age to it.
Glad the foot-that-is-not-George is in excellent shape.
KPDF – I would say he did his absolute best to walk the fine line between giving an appeal Trump might actually listen to and still connecting with his audience. It was a valiant effort. But, you are right, Drumpf won't.
NY Times – I certainly hope the ploy does backfire and that minority turnout – well, the groups you mentioned, not all of whom are actually numerical minorities – will go through the roof and go for Hillary. I admit, however, concerns about the "Second Amendment Solution" people.
TP – Oh, God, how right he is. Question: How likely are people who don't trust Hillary to listen to Gore?
Cartoon – I always enjoy a good pirate story.
KP DF: Boy, wouldn't that be wonderful? Go away, that is!! "Awesome, Dude"!! Going to miss John O., for a bit here.
NYT: Get out and vote!! Blue that is.
Cartoon: 'Almost 250 years ago, Captain James Cook sailed on the voyage where … Cook spotted and claimed the east coast of Australia for the Crown.' Interesting story.

Glad to read that George is good, and ready to go places. It's very muggy and hot here, with all the rain. I thought I'd never say this, but I can't wait for cooler weather. Enjoy your evening, and take good care. Thanks, Tom.
It must be horrible if you can't take anything your eye-brain coordination tells you for granted, TomCat. Dropping a carafe of coffee is exasperating enough, but taking an hour to clean it all up must have taken you far beyond that. Good thing the temperatures have gone down for a while, or you might have melted away from heat exhaustion and frustration. Enjoy the "cooling off" period for as long as it lasts and take the time regain some of your energy.
KPDF: Supprizingly I saw a short cut of this "Last Week Tonight" show in which Jon Oliver urged Drumpf to throw in the towel on ABC's breakfast show this morning. That was terribly funny, but the whole video turned out to be absolutely hilarious! Comparing Drumpf to "The kid who ran for president" is brilliant and asking Drumpf to come on the show and give the kid's resignation speech, which appears to have been written with Drumpf in mind, was one of the best satirical moments of this election. Kudos to John Oliver, and to you TomCat for posting.
NYT: Generally I strongly dislike to see any Republican getting it right, but this time I'd be very happy to see some Republicans proven right when the latest Drumpfian claim backfires and disenfranchised minority voters take up his challenge and head for the voting booths in droves to vote for Democrats on all possible levels.
TP: No matter what age you are, the fact that Drumpf "[] called global warming a hoax, denied the reality of California’s devastating drought, promised he would kill all domestic climate-related regulations (like the EPA’s Clean Power Plan), and vowed “We’re going to cancel the Paris climate agreement” — humanity’s last best chance to avoid catastrophic climate change lasting centuries -" should be enough for anyone who cares about the climate crisis to take heed of Al Gore's warning and follow his example: "The harsh reality is that we have two principal choices. And I am supporting Hillary Clinton."
Cartoon: And ever since the aboriginal people of Australia have been trying to get some of the land that was stolen from them back, but to little avail. Because Australia has it has its own brand of Republicans that clogs up the bog and refuses to be flushed no matter which way the water swirls.
Coffee Ingested: GOOD
Coffee on Floor: BAD
We all have our moments when things don't look quite right and we flub. lol.
KP Daily Funnies: John Oliver is both right and funny in this video. Although Drumpf won't do it (quit the race, drop out). "The Kid Who Ran for President" was an excellent reference source.
What would happen if he did quit/drop out of the race? Does anyone have an idea, a theory, a speculation? And if Drumpf did drop out, who would take his place?
NY Times: If anyone is going to "steal" the election, it has been the GOP who have actually done it with the help of the Supreme Court in 2000. And again, with the help of Karl Rove (computer hacking) in the State of Ohio in 2004. And in numerous places around the country, mostly in red states through gerrymandering, redistricting, closing of voter polls, discriminations, tougher voting laws passed since the Supreme Court gutted and repealed Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act in 2013. Drumpf should lose the election as he truly is a loser who cannot do anything honestly and legally.
Let us not forget that the GOP and its related political divisions have, effectively, made the appearance of Hillary Clinton as untrustworthy for 20 years of brainwashing via Faux Noise, expensive trials (Congressional Hearings: most recently: Benghazi) and so on.
Think Progress: Al Gore has it right: Don't vote for a third party candidate. Excellent article in the Think Progress hot link.
Cartoon: Captain Cook claimed the whole of the east coast of Australia for Great Britain on 22 August 1770. On March 3, 1986, is the day Australia achieved complete independence from Britain. Happy Australian Independence Day.
.
Thanks all! Rushed huhs!
I was saving my response when the PP server went down and I lost it all last night.
Puzzle — 3:17
KP Daily Funnies — John Oliver is spot on and funnier than hell!
NY Times —
Think Progress — I posted a video recently of Noam Chomsky giving the same advice, even if one has to hold their nose.
VOTE BLUE ALL DOWN THE TICKET!!!
Cartoon — Science or superstition?
Weather was nice here yesterday — about 22 C (72 F). Tuesday a bit warmer, then the next heat wavw. Arrggghhhh!!!!!
That's crazy, about the coffee. Glad the foot news is good, Say "Hi!" to George for me.
KPDF: Video no longr available. But Rumpy is not going to acced to a John Oliver suggestion before Batshit Lady offers that her Evangelism is based on nothing but myth!
NYT: Rump is readying his exit strategy, because he can not accept the concept that reasonable people just might think that he is as batshit crazy as Bachman.
TP: I made a comment on a blog, some weeks ago, connected to Nader, about his torpedoing of Gore, and someone, I expect Ralphy himself, under another name, wrote back that the idea had been debunked long ago. I did not believe it then, and I do not now, am glad to see support for the cause of VOTING BLUE ALL THE WAY DOWN!
