In about forty minutes, I have a telephone interview scheduled with a Providence pharmacist for my annual prescription review.  After that I have a week free of medical mayhem for the first time in God only knows!  I think it’s time to sneak up on Lona the Napster and filch a couple hi grade naps!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:27 (average 5:30).  Top do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: BERNIE SANDERS: Former student organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Led the first ever civil rights sit-in in Chicago history to protest segregated housing. One of only 2 sitting US Senators to have heard MLK’s "I have a Dream Speech" in person in the march on Washington, DC. Former professor of political science at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and at Hamilton College. Former mayor of Burlington, VT. Elected by the state of Vermont 8 times to serve in the House of Representatives. The longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history. He was dubbed the "amendment king" in the House of Representatives for passing more amendments than any other member of Congress. Ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee. Author of 2 books, and co-author of 3 others. Has recorded and released a folk music album. Self-described Democratic Socialist. Married to a woman named Jane, who is a former president of Burlington College.

~In a stunning upset in 1981, Sanders wins the mayoral race in Burlington, Vermont’s largest city, by a mere 10 votes. Running as an independent, he shocks the city’s political establishment by defeating a six-term, local machine mayor.

~During his tenure as mayor, he balanced the city budget, drew a minor league baseball team to Burlington, turned the formerly industrial waterfront into a mixed-use district featuring housing, parks, and public space. Burlington is now reported to be one of the most livable cities in the nation.

~In 1991, he was the first independent elected to the House in 40 years. He will be re-elected by the people of Vermont to serve eight terms.

~Votes against a measure providing President George H. W. Bush with authorization to use military force in the Gulf War. "I have a real fear that the region is not going to be more peaceful or more stable after the war," he says at the time.

These are the last seven of 28 listed things that Bernie Sanders has done for America. I’ll add two more He has won every party platform battle except trade, and he has moved to unify the party by stressing that we must elect Hillary Clinton.  Thank you Bernie!

From NY Times: The awkward dance between Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders, her top Democratic primary opponent, is set to conclude on Tuesday, with Mr. Sanders appearing alongside her at a rally in Portsmouth, N.H.

The event, confirmed in a news release put out by the Sanders campaign on Monday morning, could do much to appease Sanders supporters who remain skeptical of Mrs. Clinton as she heads to the party’s convention July 25-28 in Philadelphia. Mrs. Clinton has secured enough delegates for the presidential nomination but is not yet officially the nominee.

The rally, which will be held at Portsmouth High School, in a state where Mr. Sanders defeated Mrs. Clinton by 22 percentage points in a hard-fought February primary, is the result of weeks of private negotiations and policy debates between the Sanders and Clinton camps. While the endorsement event is widely expected to happen, Mrs. Clinton had to reschedule two recent events, one with President Obama and the other with Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., because of the shootings in Orlando, Fla., and Dallas.

I look forward to it. I just hope his so-called supporters listen to him then.

From CNN:Republican Party leaders, donors and important delegates will flock to Cleveland this week for a series of meetings and negotiations that will determine whether or not Donald Trump can be stopped.

The anti-Trump forces will make their last stand — fighting to alter party rules that would free up delegates bound to Trump and potentially block the presumptive presidential nominee from actually winning the nomination.

The long-shot challenge will also be the first major test for the somewhat tenuous alliance for Trump and Republican Party loyalists led by chairman Reince Priebus.

If the Dump Trump fascists are successful, the Rump Dump Rectumites will stage an armed conflict that is likely to destroy the Republican Reich. If The Dump Trump fascists are not successful,. Rump Dump and his Rectumites are likely to destroy the Republican Reich by faithfully representing Republican beliefs and policies. without hiding behind Dog Whistles.   Let the festivities in Cleveland begin!

  1. Correction, he lost single payer and Palestinian human rights as well as most Wall Streeet reform, revolving door lobbying reform and other ethical issues…at least half were lost or severely watered down to come close to meaningless.

Most supporters consider TPP a deal breaker and the campaign will continue to the convention; thus formal endorsement not an appropriate expectation IMO.

HUFFPOLLSTER: Poll Shows Hillary Clinton’s Email Woes Aren’t Over

Americans remain concerned about the “extremely careless” way in which she handled email as Secretary of State.

  2. 5:08  I had a cat once who liked banana pudding pops, but not actual bananas; and in any case green ones are too hard to be tasty.

DKos – Well, now, this is an article worth bookmarking.  Thak you Bernie, and thank you TomCat.

NY Times – I hope the same.  I truly hope those like the one I ran into in a comment thread on I-don't-remember-now-which-site who commented to the effect that supporting Hillary will make him obvious for the hypocrite he is (yes, she really said that) are thin on the ground.  I have become so accustomed to Republican crazies that seeing so many crazies who claim to support Bernie has become trully shocking to me.

CNN – Yeah, your analysis appears to be spot on.  I do have a nagging little voice in the back of my head, though, that keeps whispering "Murphy's Law!  Murphy's Law!"  I hope it's wrong.

Cartoon – Oh, good God.  Or, more accurately, Not-so-very-good God.

  3. No medical mayhem this week: Wooo Hooo indeed. You just make sure you stick to that promise, TomCat πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

DK: That's a very impressive list, Bernie should get a medal for all he's achieved, but he'd probably refuse to accept it. Because Bernie doesn't work for himself, doesn't go for personal glory or power like some; he works for the people and a future for all. So if he tells progressives to switch their vote to Hillary Clinton when she gets the nomination because that is the best thing they can do for the country at this point in time, with a track record like that they can trust him on that and should listen to him.

NYT: It'll be an exciting event when Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton will stand together on that platform, let Democrats know what the end result of their negotiations is and unite the Democratic party.

CNN: The GOP is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Good.

Cartoon: Let's hope that by November America is stepping away from that.

  4. DK: What an excellent article about Mr. Sanders. Have bookmarked to read, and re-read….

    NYT: Good times.

CNN: Oh, goody! Where's my popcorn?? lol.

    Cartoon: Very sad, indeed.

I hope that your phone interview goes good, and that nothing hinders you getting your prescriptions. Enjoy your freedom pertaining to anything medical, and rest, relax, and enjoy. Have a great day, and Thanks, Tom.

  5. DK: Bernie remains my kind of guy!

NY T: Bernie and Hillary together will be a sight for sore eyes!  H ewill not be showing hypocriticism, but solidarrity in the caue of defeating their, and our, common enemy, the GOPigs!

CNN: The GOP, "damned if they do, and damned if they don't"…they worked long and hard to get to this magical place. Insted of "DRill baby drill," it will be "Implode, baby implode!" This is like Twilight Zone politics.  Let the party begin!!!!    What's that German word for "Joy of watching your enemy squirm!"  Freudenschade!

  6. Daily Kos:  Twenty eight good reasons to love Bernie.  I shared this with friends who need to know about him.  He held out until some Progressive ideas were included in the DNC platform, and I am glad he did.  I am also happy that he is now encouraging his supporters to vote for Clinton.  If they don't want Trump for president, they need to vote for her.

NY Times:  I hope his supporters listen to him, too, and give up their attacks on Clinton.  We may not agree with her on everything, but she is head and shoulders above Trump.

CNN:  The Virginia delegates have won the right to vote for someone other than Trump.  I wonder if others will, too.  I hope there is no violence in Cleveland, but will not be surprised if there is.

Cartoon:  Sadly, they don't care if we become extinct.   There is currently an issue in a county a couple of hours from my home, where fracking waste has been dumped and is radio active.  There is much hand wringing by the ones who should have been policing this, but the citizens living near the land fill are the ones who will suffer.

Enjoy your week off, TC, it gets to be a drag to have to got from one medical appointment to another.

  7. Hopefully, Bernie-bots will follow Bernie's example and get behind Hillary. We HAVE to come together AGAINST Rump Dump Drumpf!!!

Oh, the Convention for the Repukkklicans! This should be calm compared to the Dem's! I will watch the Repukkklicans on The Daily Show and Larry Wilmore! Or I COULD just download the six seasons of Game of Thrones AGAIN and watch it all the way thru for the third or fourth time! I think the latter will be a more entertaining venture! GoT it is! See ya later, Pubes!

  8. Puzzle — 3:42  Oh, my furbabes would love these.  They go bananas for bananas!

Daily Kos — Love that badge of courage from the NRA — a D rating.  Way to go Bernie!

NY Times — What comes out of the convention will be interesting to see.  Any follower who refuses to heed Bernie's advice and does nothing or goes to Drumpf is nothing but an opportunist and a delussional fool.

CNN — Let the good times roll!  A federal judge in Virginia has "struck down a Virginia law that requires all Republican and Democratic delegates to support the respective winners of the state primary under threat of criminal prosecution."  This could help the anti Drumpf movement.

    Cartoon — Disgusting!

  9. Thanks alll!  Hugs!!
