I often have occasion to question the mental health of several of the people GOP sheeple elect.  In this case, there’s no question about it.

RexDuncanOKRep_ Oklahoma State Senator Rex Duncan (R) is pushing for a ballot measure that would prohibit courts from considering international or sharia law when deciding cases. He says the measure is a "preemptive strike" against "liberal judges" who want to "undermine those founding principles" of America.

The "Save Our State" amendment would require Oklahoma courts to use state and federal laws only when ruling, and Duncan explained on MSNBC today that he wants to ensure "that our courts are not used to undermine those founding principles, and turn Oklahoma into something that our founding fathers and our great grandparents wouldn’t recognize."

He said that "Oklahomans recognize that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles," and that his measure "is a pre-emptive strike to make sure that liberal judges don’t take to the bench in an effort to use their position to undermine" those principles by considering international or sharia law.

When asked if there was a danger of judges doing this, Duncan maintained that though it hasn’t happened yet, "it’s not just a danger. It’s a reality."… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <TPM>

I have some news for Duncan.  Our founding fathers gave Islam equal status with Christianity when they ratified the First Amendment.  Furthermore, those Muslims that insist on strict observance of Sharia are not the liberals, just like those Christians who insist on strict observance of Old Testament Law, they are the most rabid right-wingers.  Finally, I am completely unaware of any legal case where a US Judge has decided a case based on Sharia.

Run, Mr. Duncan, do not walk, to the closest psychiatrist.  You are suffering from Teabuggery Disorder.

I just shake my head in disbelief. Okay this guys a douchebag, But the thing is, people voted for him. How? Why? What’s happened to voters? Of course this guy is not alone as so many on the right have their collective heads up their ass. Was it the schools that let us down? Just sad that these people seem to be the best we can come up with.

    • Tim, Most of the sheeple who elect these people get their information from Faux Noise. They hear nothing contrary to these extreme views, so they consider them normal.

  2. Duncan, like most fundamentalist, religious far-right Christians, Jews, AND Muslims, SHOULD have his sanity questioned! He’s just one more in a long line of ignorant, go-it-alone ideologues (George W. Bush was another) who believe that their religion or nation is always right, should never be questioned or opposed, and should be able to act as it damn well pleases whenever and wherever. These people all minimize the importance of international law, never bothering to recognize that all international law does is establish a set of standards for civilized nations to live by. These absolutists are blind fools who cause more trouble than they solve or prevent. For they’re too stupid to recognize that one man’s pre-emptive action is another’s act of aggression. Straitjacket for Mr. Duncan, please!

    • Well said Jack. I have ling said that religion is not the problem that divides people. I know Christians, Muslims and Jews who interact respectfully, harmoniously, and even lovingly. The problem is the exclusivity claims of fundamentalism.

  3. I’m afraid some teabagger might shoot me in the future. Could happen, could not happen, but I should preemptively strike just in case, right? Right.

    • Randal, I think you could survive a hit in your future. If the Teabagger intends to shoot you in the arse instead, then worry. πŸ˜‰

  4. Tom, there are just too many juicy quotes from the Founders to mow this guy down with. But I’ll drop off one of my favorites: Thomas Jefferson in a letter to Elbridge Gerry (1799):
“I am for freedom of religion & against all maneuvres to bring about a legal ascendancy of one sect over another.”

There may be too many big words in that for Duncan to digest, though…

  5. Well at least we are in agreement. These people are suffering from a disease. How we have progressed as a species is sometimes hard to figure out.

  6. While I don’t want Sharia law to creep into the States like it has in Britain, it is NOT the liberal judges that would bring it in. Just like I don’t want Christain or Jewish law to creep in. More and more of these Repubs need a nice padded cell with some Thorazine.

  7. Whether anyone likes it or not, globalization and international law are having more and more impact on everybody, in countless little ways. If these Stone Age Biblewipes think they can just shield out the rest of the world by not allowing judges to use international law in their rulings, they’re more deluded and delusional than I thought.

    • An interesting view, Tom. Frankly I think the US should join the world court, but depend on US law for completely local stuff. However, when dealing with multinationals, we have to take international law into account, because we may need judgments from courts in more than one nation.

  8. Disbelief, yes. And I have to laugh after reading Tims comment about the voters and whats wrong with them because today on a rightwing nuts blog they said don’t blame Obama the devil, blame the voters for voting for him! If they could only hear themselves and what they are whining about, but that’ll NEVER happen. We are stuck with these total morons til they get so extreme they kill themselves off!

  9. This is too much for me.

    I’ve got a mitt-full of Mormons already.

    • Very cute, Ivan! Lol!! I have no problem with Mormons, unless they are coming to my door to proselytize. Then I just pretend to be gay. They go away fast! πŸ˜‰
