Tom122007_Painting_Painting Obama went into campaign mode yesterday in Pittsburgh.  He effectively enumerated Democratic accomplishments during his administration, and he effectively defined the character of the GOP opposition he has faced.  He tore them a new back-passage.

You all know that when I disagree with Obama, I say so, but in this speech, he was spot-on.

There are so many assorted clips of Obama from which to chose, I decided to give you the entre speech.  It’s worth the 40 minutes to see it.

If you prefer, you can read the transcript here.

In summery, it’s about time!

  1. Thanks TC, I missed this speech so I will watch the whole thing! This is what he needs to do on a more frequent basis. But sadly the righties who Hate our president and call him a liar will just call speeches like this arrogant. It really is a shame we have such close minded hateful people when our country desperately needs everyone to come together right now.

    • Early this morning, Sue, I heard Limpy Boehner whineing that Obama was not being the bipartisan President he promised to be. Scheeesch!! You’re welcome, and enjoy!

  2. Tom I agree that he was “spot on.” For reasons unknown to me pundits from both sides of the aisle are calling him “weak” and “ineffective” during this speech. I am beginning to wonder if they were looking at the same president I was looking at…

    • I don’t understand it either, Mike. My only guess is that the media want to influence the midterms to make them as close as possible. The closer the horse race, the higher their ratings. The higher their ratings, the more money they make.

  3. This is what Obama needed to do — take off the gloves and tell people what his administration has accomplished. When Republicans lose an election, they always complain that “we didn’t get our message out.” But in Obama’s case it really is true; he really has accomplished a lot, and this is getting lost on the public because of all the mutual hate speech that’s swamping the media.

I think Obama set the bar so high when he first became president, that when he doesn’t quite reach a goal, or if something takes “too long” (i.e. the health care reform bill), it comes across in the media as “why is this taking so long?” or “why are so many people still out of work?”

    • Tom I agree. Obama had to set the bar high to survive. Never has a President since Lincoln inherited more and more severe crises from the incompetence of his predecessor.

  4. That was a really great speech – too bad it didn’t reach a wider audience.

  5. This is the speech I was waiting for.
    Mr.President please keep it up!

  6. “And despite all their current moralizing about the need to curb spending, this is the same crowd who took the record $237 billion surplus that President Clinton left them and turned it into a record $1.3 trillion deficit.”

In my ever humble opinion this is one item the president needs to hit them on again and again. Even the current monster deficit can be traced back to them.

Tom, have a good one, I’m on vacation now. Will drop by in a couple of days.

  7. I am unfortunately short on time and will watch his speech later today but I read most of the speech just now (my bed calls my name). I thought the following line regarding the GOP was priceless:

“It’s an agenda that basically offers two answers to every problem we face: more tax breaks for the wealthy and fewer rules for corporations.”

I thought Obama’s speech, from what I have read so far, had been very fair and accurate, and inspiring…

    • Kevin, that was one of my favorites. Seeing that statement on MSNBC is what prompted me to find the whole speech.

  8. I’m going to watch it again.
