Day 97.  This is extreme hurry mode, as I’m posting articles and distributing links, before leaving for volunteer work in prison.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:31 (average 5:56).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Bill Maher had a field day with both Sarah Palin and her Republican critics. “Now that many Republicans have come forward in the last week to finally admit that, ‘okay, you were right, Sarah Palin is a crazy person, they have to ask themselves, ‘What else might I have been completely wrong about all these years?’ In case you missed it, Palin made a speech in Iowa a couple of weeks ago that cryptologists are still working on,” Maher explained on his show Real Time with Bill Maher.

Bill to Republicans slamming Sarah Palin… by ewillies

I think Bloody Bullseye Barbie went all the way to Baggerville. Bill was classic.

From The New Yorker: On Monday, the state of Alabama lost yet another fight to remain in the eighteenth century, extending a losing streak that dates back to the nineteenth century.

Alabama, whose first attempt to remain in the eighteenth century took place between 1861 and 1865, has never shown signs of giving up the fight, even after being dealt a string of stunning defeats in the nineteen-fifties and nineteen-sixties.

According to historians, Monday’s loss brings the number of failed attempts by Alabama to more than four thousand.

But even with this latest defeat, some of the state’s residents, such as Chief Justice Roy Moore, of the Alabama Supreme Court, remained resolute in their fight to return to a time before electricity and indoor plumbing.

Dang!!  Andy’s back to straight news, again!!

From YouTube: ‘Bears’ have own plan for Jeb Bush campaign site / LGBT, Equality

We still don’t know what bears do or don’t do in the woods, but they certainly do on the Bush!!  😀

  1. 6:10 average 5:56.  I suppose Republicans would tell it to go back where it came from.

Daily Kos – I think she went way beyond Baggerville, and I think that's Bill's point – Republicans have now proved that it is possible for them to change their minds on something, and should start looking at everything.  It won't happen, but it should.

New Yorker – It may be the eighteenth century they want, but I suspect it is the seventeenth or sixteenth myself.  The eighteenth, after all, is sometimes referred to as the Age of Reason.

YouTube – Well, she said earier she wanted to have them on the show.  What a great couple.  I buzzed over to the site, and really, the only way they are "doing it on the Bush" is by hanging on to the domain.  The few discussions posted so far are very positive snd very kind.  Even to Huckabee.

Cartoon – Isn't that the truth.

  2. 3:12  Doesn`t that flower look like a giant slide with a nice soft landing in yellow cotton batting?!

  3. Hmmmmmmmm–since the GOP is a shrinking minority, does that mean they'll switch ends when their number gets small enough?

Video was removed by user before I tried watching.

Alabama seems to have been jealous about Mississippi become the example of the worst or bottom of the list of state rankings on so many things–sad.

We'll have to depend on Bill more with Stewart announcing his show ending.

  4. Disturbing news in my e-mail from Left Action:  Comedy Central announces that Jon Stewart is stepping down from the Daily Show at the end of 2015.    http://leftaction.com/action/thank-jon-stewart

Puzzle — 3:12  Doesn`t that flower look like a giant slide with a nice soft landing in yellow cotton batting?!

Daily Kos — Palin is palin' . . . she'll never be the Republicanus/Teabaggerum bright star! . . . not that she ever was!  Finally some of them are finally figuring that out.  I wonder if she'll try to start her own political party like she started her own TV channel?

The New Yorker — I suppose that Alabama can be proud . . . in some areas it is first . . . first in the race to the bottom!

    YouTube — Video removed.

Cartoon — I thought that was their immigration plan!?

    • Now that I know this was a Rachel Maddow segment, here is the link http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show  and go to #17 which has an interview with "the bears".

Good to know that they have absolutely no plans to give up the jebbushforpresident.com domain name. Apparently, according to Rachel, Bush is launching his web site and his tech guy is busy deleting some of his personal tweets that refer to some women as sluts and make fun of gays.  Would the tech's go nicely with Bush's run for POTUS.  They are out now.  Let the real fun begin.

  5. Daily Kos:  Wow, Republicans now realize that she is lacking brilliance?  And Fox News, too?  Hard to believe.  The rest of us have known it since McCain dragged her off her hunting grounds in Alaska.  She is, at best, a good reality show, if you watch those things, which I don't.

The New Yorker:  Andy is dangerously close to becoming a non fiction writer.  The nightly news report said that about half the counties in Alabama are still refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples even after the latest ruling.

Youtube:  The video has been removed.  I wish I had seen it.

Cartoon:  Yep, you got this right.

I hope you had a good day at the prison.

  6. Having computer problems today – it keeps freezing and being a PITB – but I did manage to see the glorious Bill Maher – and every word he spoke was true!  I can't believe that the Repugs have realised that that horrible woman is awful – and in that video clip that will be long remembered, she didn't seem to realise that not one phrase that she spoke had ANYTHING  to do with any other phrase she spoke – she sounded drunk.

May blessings rain down on Bill Maher – and on you TC for posting that, I'd have missed it otherwise, and it was an utter joy to watch!

New Yorker – as Edie mentioned, this is getting close to reality, not satire!

  7. Daily Kos:
Rabble Rouser aka Sarah Palinsane. Glad that Bill finally exposed Sarah and the GOP/TP for what they all are: Hypocrites of the first order. What else are the GOP/TP/Koch Party wrong about on other people, issues… Do not have to look very far. lol.

    New Yorker:
Alabama Supreme Court's Chief Justice Roy Moore has been wrong before and he is wrong again. Roy Moore should step down and retire before he get his foot in his mouth once again. Maybe with Moore gone, Alabama might, just might, move into the 21st century.

    YouTube:
Saw the "bears" on Rachel Maddow's show the other night. They are a funny and gracious duo.

    Cartoon:
The assault weapons need to be taken away from those who would abuse them in USA's public purview.

  8. PETITION:

Demand that Alabama’s anti-gay judges be held accountable!

Due to the actions of the state's bigoted Chief Justice Roy Moore,
in flagrant defiance of federal law, Chief Justice Moore ordered Alabama’s county judges to illegally disobey the new law and deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples — and sadly, many complied.

    http://act.couragecampaign.org/sign/AlabamaMarriage_MoveOn

  9. Surprisingly, I'm not too worried about what will happen in Alabama.  Roy Moore’s actions have violated Alabama’s Canons of Judicial Ethics in so many and significant regards (formal Ethics Complaints have already been filed with the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission … AGAIN) that just like in 2003, Roy will be removed from office … AGAIN.

And this time, Roy may likely be disbarred!

It's one thing for him to defy a federal court order as an individual (which led to his removal in 2003) – but it's a multitude of magnitudes worse when he orders the entire Alabama judiciary to violate them.

It will be quite a sobering scene when his minions of recalcitrant probate judges are hauled before a Federal Court to face contempt charges. It will be quite entertaining … THAT you can count on.

  10. Thanks all.  Exhausted.  E=See today's Open Thread for Bears.

  11. Bill Maher had a field day with both Sarah Palin and her Republican critics.

I love to watch Bill Maher, Palin in Nucking Futs. 😆
