As the clock ticks down to Barack Obama’s announcement of immigration reform by executive order, Republicans to continue to howl with such vigor that one might think that a democrat might have fed a hungry child.  Between howls they claim they that the President only has the authority to grant immunity from extradition on an individual, case-by-case basis.  See the picture below for the Republican alternative.  First lets see what Senate Democrats have to say.  They we’l1 take a stroll down memory lane.

With the election safely over, congressional Democrats have regained their courage on immigration and are now urging President Obama to go ahead with an executive action on immigration reform. Here’s an excerpt from a letter that several Democratic leaders in the Senate sent today:

The principle behind most of what Obama plans to do falls under the category of "prosecutorial discretion," which means he can decide where best to use the government’s limited law enforcement resources. Just like previous presidents, he can decide that resources should be directed in a certain way, which effectively means that certain immigrants will be free to stay in the country simply because no one will be targeting them for deportation…

To bring you recent history of immigration reform by executive action, Rachel Maddow provided superior coverage.

If the video will not load here, try its direct link.  I could not find it on YouTube, but someone may upload it there within a day or two.

There you have it.  The executive action Obama is planning is absolutely no different from the executive actions on immigration by GHW “We wish he’d worn a rubber!” Bush and the patron saint of the Republican Party, Saint Ronnie Ray Gun.  Where were the Republican howls of outrage when they did it?

  1. There is such an outcry by the TeapublicanTs because they do not know History. If they would watch something other than FAUX Noise or reality shows like Duck Dynasty they would learn something. That would be anathema to them though.

  2. Republicans are very good at whining, crying and stamping their feet – they are worthless at getting anything done.  So we have a president who has given them every chance to be productive and instead they resort to threats ~ boo hoo,  you poor Republicans – why don't you all take your balls and go home where you can wallow in peace and the rest of us can actually get something accomplished…

  3. jl a says on Care 2 "I sure wish I could expect the new one to be as sweeping and helpful to immigrants rather than such minor tweaks as come with prosecutorial discretion (which some refuse to follow). "  Yeah, no kidding.  But one can only do what one can.  I think both Bush and Reagan managed to get something through Congress, didn't they?  Obama is not going to be able to do that.  Which means many people will need to stay dedicated to helping those in the worst kind of need on the ground, so they won't have the resources to fight as hard against big oil amd Wall Street as they otherwise might.  Sounds like a win-win for the Republicans to me.

  4. Is Boehner still proceeding with his ridiculous law suit against Obama because Obama dared to do his job when Congressional Republicanus/Teabaggers would not do theirs?  It seems that operating within the framework of his legal executive powers, Obama should not have to put up any of this Republicanus/Teabagger BS and the courts should just toss out the suit.

As far as immigration, the US cannot leave all those people in limbo.  There is no way that immigration reforms will make it through the Congress, now or in 2015.  Obama will have to use his executive powers, just like the sainted Reagan and Daddy Bush did before him, and the Republicanus/Teabaggers be damned!

  5. Mother Jones:  I hope he uses his executive privelge on this issue, the Republicans can do little but howl as he has the authority.

Of course, their outcries are bogus. If Mittens had won and decided to do the same thing they would have been praising him for humanitarianism.  Hypocrites.
