I’m writing for tomorrow, day 82, my first day without Chantix. It’s early in the morning. Street noise awakened me. I feel very tired, but I dare not return to bed, lest I miss my physical therapy. So I’m writing this now, since I know I will be unable to do so later. It is the only article.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:13 (average 5:30). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From Upworthy: Sure, we aren’t doing everything the civil rights movement set out to achieve in the ’60s, but goodness gracious, as long as there are 12-year-olds like this one, I know we’ll get there.
If you think it’s getting intense around 2:45, when she gets the Dixie cups, wait for the closing line of the whole thing. Emotions!
I guess some people are born not to become Republicans.
From The New Yorker: A new poll released Thursday reveals that a broad majority of Americans describe themselves as “deeply unhappy” to have been reminded that the former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin exists.
Palin’s call for the impeachment of President Obama, a ploy to remind people that she still roams the earth, appears to have backfired, the poll shows.
With seventy-two per cent of respondents saying that they were “upset” or “very upset” to be reminded of her existence, Palin is one of three non-officeholders whose recent utterances have traumatized Americans.
Right-on, Andy! He is right about the other two, also. Click through.
From Daily Kos: Something tells me Rick Perry’s Immigration meeting with President Obama didn’t go as planned.
It looks as though Obama ate some of my chili and Perry just realized it!!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
The less said about bananas today, the better.
Upworthy – Well, she said Southerners were "complicated." I'd say she put her finger on it. I'm surely glad she found out.
New Yorker – Oh, yes. And do I hear the start of a Republican outcry – "Obama is responsible for traumatized Americans! It's all his fault!"
Daily Kos – published as "A picture really is worth a thousand words," if I recall correctly. TC, your comment is much better than any of the ones I read on Kos. They were overanalysing and I, the chief overanalyser, actually got bored.
Cartoon – yes. No s**t.
Upworthy: An understated video. The closing line, at the end of the video, is marvelous. Emotions – Yes!
Why do I get the impression, feeling and seeing that Rick Perry is a male Sarah Palinsane…?
Daily Kos:
Tough guy talk not helpful on border matters
07/10/14 10:29PM
"Rachel Maddow reviews the gaffes and humiliations of Texas governor Rick Perry's bumbling presidential campaign to examine why he thinks tough talk on the immigration crisis is a political win even though it's not helpful as a practical solution." Perry wants armed troops on the border. VIDEO: http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/watch/tough-guy-talk-not-helpful-on-border-matters-301727811522
Money for border solutions not beyond hope
07/10/14 10:28PM
"Senator Jon Tester (D) of Montana, member of the Appropriations and Homeland Security Committees, talks with Rachel Maddow about the need for solutions on immigration and why he thinks the Senate will pass a bill to fund those solutions. 5:14 This puzzle drove me banans last time we tackled it and today was even worse outside with the glare on the screen. It's just too nice to be indoors.
3:44 The bananas may be green, but I still slipped on them.
3:40 I did not slip on a banana but I tripped over the bandaids on my fingers and hands and fingers that don't want to bend too much! I should be back to normal in a few days I hope, not that 'normal' is any better than now.
Upworthy ~ God bless her! She was the sane one in the crowd and brave! I need a box of tissues.
New Yorker ~ I guessed the other 2 as being Trump and Cheney. Half correct.
Daily Kos ~ Rick must feell left out at that table. didn't he get any dessert?
Cartoon ~ The newest Fourth Commandment.
I hope you do well without the Chantix.
Upworthy: I am glad she was finally able to learn that her dad was proud of her. Things were intense in the south in those days and she not only endangered herself, but also her family. She was certainly a brave little girl. I was in seventh grade when my school was integrated. As I have said before, I grew up in a community that had all ethnicities and color. I was shocked at the people who protested. My parents continued to send their children to school and instructed us to ignore the racists. The tempest lasted about three days, then everyone came back to school. I was never able to understand what prompted them to act so badly.
The New Yorker: I soooo agree with Andy. It upsets me every day to hear that Palin, Coulter, and Cheney can still get press. I would also like to add Perry, Cruz, Ryan, Cantor, and Boehner to the list.
Daily Kos: That is a hoot, TC. Perry does indeed look as though he smells something bad.
Cartoon: I had to share this on FB. Bet none of my Repub friends will "like" it.
I received an Avaaz petition today titled "Canada: gagging on oil" which I hope you all will sign.
https://secure.avaaz.org/en/dont_silence_mattawa_e/?bfRGrab&v=42364
AVAAZ petition signed. Thanks Lynn.
Signed. I'm surprised I didn't get the email for this campaign.
No benefit for all the pollution as this oil goes on the World Market.
Signed and thank you Lynn,
Puzzle — 3:40 I did not slip on a banana but I tripped over the bandaids on my fingers and hands and fingers that don't want to bend too much! I should be back to normal in a few days I hope, not that 'normal' is any better than now.
Upworthy — Those were dark times in US history, but not without rays of light. I was 9 years old but I knew nothing of racism because in my world it did not exist, despite coming into contact with people from all over the world. Soon after it did appear in the form of my mother's bigoted father who lived in Buffalo, NY. Unfortunately, there is no sound for me on the video at the site or at YouTube. I'll have to try to listen to it later.
The New Yorker — Palin, Coulter and Cheney — the 3 Stooges of the 21st century. Excuse me, I am going to hurl . . .
Daily Kos — Perry is probably pissed off that he can`t figure out how to deport that “Kenyan, Muslim, socialist“ who is trying to bring in an immigration policy that, in his opinion, will allow more of them (Kenyan, Muslim, socialists) into the country.
Cartoon — You said you`d get lots of use from that picture, and you are! Republicanus/Teabaggers are relics of a bygone era being inflicted on the present times. What did you do as a country to deserve this plague of locusts called Republicanus/Teabaggers?
Your poor hands and fingers! I am so sorry! I was in the cat wars once with a neighbor's litter who were orphaned. They really didn't know much about cats so I ended up bringing them in. They were taught by mommy to distrust humans. The first two weren't so hard but the third, a girl, scratched some, and the last, a boy, really did my hands in. I named them Carmen and Don Jose – two character very familiar with daggers. But it didn't even take a week before they turned into Cindy and Don Juan.
Petition signed – I don't know why (and it's probably not complimentary to me LOL) but I don't have any trouble with avaaz.
Just a comment that I needed Kleenex for the video too, and wanted to say more, but I was commenting early and didn't want to be a spoiler. It deserved to be seen fresh.
Thanks everyone. I survived the day.
Lynn, I don't do avaaz because I got onto their list before and it toom me several months of requests, demands, and threats escape from their profuse, relelentless SPAM.
Puzzle – 6:33 🙄
Change is long past Due.
Freedom Riders, Very sad indeed.
