Here is the thirty-first article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian TV host Rick Joyner, for proposing treason in the form of a major Second Amendment solution.
Rick Joyner, one of the leading lights of the Christian Dominionist movement, recently told his television audience that democracy has failed in America [seditionist delinked], and that the nation’s only hope, in light of the looming “tyranny” of the Obama administration, is “a military takeover – martial law.”
Said Joyner: “There’s no way our Republic can last much longer. It may not last through Obama’s second term. There are a lot of people who feel that it can’t. That there are forces right now that are seeking to undermine and to destroy the Republic. There’s almost a glib and almost a joyful disregard of the Constitution and belittling of the Constitution. We can’t make it without that. It’s our foundation, our moorings. We’re headed for serious tyranny…
“I think we’ve been used in some wonderful and powerful ways by God. We’ve been one of the most generous nations in history. We’ve done so much good. And that’s why I appeal to the Lord: ‘Don’t let us be totally destroyed, please raise up those who will save us!’ And as I’ve started telling friends for a long time, no election is going to get the right person in there that’s going to restore us, because the system is so broken, so undermined right now, the whole system.
“I believe our only hope is a military takeover – martial law.”… [emphasis added]

SPLC had video of this in a companion article, but Joyner pulled it, claiming © infringement to hide from responsibility for what he said, although he litters the web with his other screeds. David Pakman has an out-take, however.
Joyner, a self-proclaimed TEAbagger, claims to be supporting the Constitution, but ignores the constitutional mandate that we elect our officials. But Joyner says that he has the right to overthrow those elected officials by force. For him to make that statement is sedition. If he actually staged an attempted coup using US military units, it would be treason, because a military attack on the nation is a state of war. If nothing else, this illustrates how important it is to keep Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians from infiltrating our military and brainwashing our troops, as they are trying to do now.

Big Time Amen and Kudos, Lynn. The infiltration has gotten very bad. During the Bush Reich, Pseudo Christian groups distreibuted the Left Behind game to the troops theough the chaplains' offices. It's a computer video game in which they grt to kill nonbelievers who refuse to convert to Republic an Supply-side Jesus.
He is right. "That there are forces right now that are seeking to undermine and to destroy the Republic". To back it up, he tells us that he is one of those forces.
On the other hand, he's wrong when he implies that he's a Christian while standing for everything Jesus Christ was against and for everything Jesus Christ was against.

I see, Joyner is going to save the US from the 'tyranny' of a democratically elected government that doesn't agree with what HE says should happen. Does he understand what democracy means? Silly question, of course he doesn't. He should be charged with sedition though – he is trying to foment armed rebellion! Why aren't the powers that be investigating him and stopping him?
There's a fine lime, between acepted speech and sedition. In my opinion, he crossed it. On the other hand, Congressmen appaear on his TV show.

Strangely calls to revoutin sedition and violence are only prohibited when violence is imminent. References to the future are always protected.
The U.S. Supreme Court has held that government may not prohibit speech that advocates illegal or subversive activity unless "such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action" (Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395U.S. 444, 89 S. Ct. 1827, 23 L. Ed. 2d 430 [1969]). Applying the Brandenburg test, the Court ruled that the government could not punish an anti-war protester who yelled, "[W]e'll take the fucking street later," because such speech "amounted to nothing more than advocacy of illegal action at some indefinite future time" (Hess v. Sedition, where he is now, is just short of treason. He fires one shot, he's a traitor.
Unfortunately, living in Colorado Springs, I fear the percentages of cadets and faculty at the Air Force Academy who would support him are at the high end. (And the Air Force is considered the least macho arm of the military.)Short of fixing stupid, I am not sure what can be done about it. I am not about to encourage young progressives to go into the service to change it. I tried that myself; it doesn't work.

This has disturbing echoes of 1930s Germany. I know the comparisons to the rise of the Nazi party have been over-used in many instances, but stop and consider. There is a real threat of violence underlying most of the far right-wing rhetoric. Sharron Angle's call for "Second Amendment solutions" is only one example of many.
Most dismissed the nascent Nazi party as a wild-eyed bunch of wackos for long enought that by the time they were recognized as a real threat it was too late to stop them. I think the same can be said of Boykin and Joyner.

First of all, let me apologize for my last tirade. I confess to being sometimes 'passionate' about my views. My two greatest concerns in going overboard as I did are that I probably made a complete ass of myself in front of all those who contribute to this fine website and that I may have made the site somehow risky for others. I hope I'm wrong on both counts. In any case, if you good folks will continue to accept me, I won't make any more of these tirades but will continue to make short pithy comments (when I have the time for it). I'll welcome comments even from those who disagree with me. Maybe you can guide me into commenting in a more agreeable way.
Now for Rick Joyner. Joyner, by all accounts you are a moron, a seditionist, and a right wing religious asshole. Even if you can't be called down in this life for your near-treasonous attitudes, you have already been condemned to eternal damnation in the next, you false priest and son of a bitch.

I agree completely, with the caveats that I believe one's eternal status is above my pay grade, and that if one recognizes his error, and does whatever it take to change into an authentic human being, even the most depraved Republican is redeemable.
