I’m writing for tomorrow, day 79, and although it’s only 85° at my desk at the moment, I’m expecting a scorcher. I did my cooking for the day at about 3 AM to avoid making it worse.
Jig Zone Puzzle:
Today’s took me 3:06 (average 4:44). To do it, click here. How did you do?
Short Takes:
From Raw Story: Shellie Zimmerman, wife of George Zimmerman, the Florida man who was found not guilty of second degree murder in the slaying of teenager Trayvon Martin, told ABC News that she does not know if she will stay married to her husband. In an interview with reporter Christi O’Connor, Shellie Zimmerman said that she will have to think carefully about whether she plans to stay married to George Zimmerman, and that she had walked out on him after a particularly nasty argument on the night before he shot Martin.
Now we know the reason for some of Zimmerman’s rage, when he murdered Martin.
From NY Times: For the past two years, Republican senators facing re-election have very deliberately spent millions of dollars, hired multiple consultants and cast scores of conservative votes with one goal in mind: avoiding the embarrassing primary conflagrations that befell their party in 2010 and 2012 and cost Republicans a chance at taking back the Senate.
It has not worked. Despite their careful efforts, some of the best-known and most influential Republicans in the Senate have been unable to shake threats from the right and have attracted rivals who portray these lawmakers as a central part of the problem in Washington.
In Kentucky, Mitch McConnell, the party’s Senate leader, is fending off a charismatic and wealthy conservative challenger. In South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, one of the Senate’s most reliably conservative voices on foreign policy, is being painted by primary opponents as a veritable clone of President Obama.
I’ll laugh, if a Bagger beats Bought Bitch Mitch!
From Blue Oregon: In honor of Labor Day, our colleagues at the Economic Policy Institute made a little tool — based on their project inequality.is — that shows how much you would be making if wages had kept pace with productivity, a key indicator of an economy working for all.
Click through for the picture link to the tool. When I retired, I was making about 63% of what I should have been.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
3:39 I shouldn't have stopped to pet the cute little doggie. My kittens get jealous.
3:23 The TomCat was too fast for me today.
3:23 Which way did he go? Which way did he go?
Woooo Hoooo!
Raw Story ~ That's just one of the reasons he's mad at the world.
NY Times ~ Bought Bitch Mitch will be defeated by someone this time. But, I hope it's a Democrat.
Blue Oregon ~ Interesting. I was making much less but that was because I chose to work for Hospice, a notoriously low payer because their money is spent on patient care instead of salaries.
Cartoon ~ Hitler had a lot of help.
For sure!
…. or if the Dem beatds the Bagger that beats him.
Well done on day 79 TC – sorry it has gone so very overheated again there! Sounds as if Mrs Z had a lucky escape – and poor Trayvon Martin didn't. I clicked through to the Economic Policy Institute tool – enlightening (and depressing!). Thanks TC!
Thanks Pat. Glad you enjoyed it!
Since I was the one who complained first (and loudest) about that NSFW photo of Solomon on the bed yesterday, I thought I should make amends. So I scoured the innertubes, and with the help of Google sleuthing I was able to find a candid picture of our very own TomCat taking a break from the computer. So enjoy! (Been so long since I posted a photo link, I hope it works)

So you are saying that, though he is chiseled, he is going grey?
Well done Nameless1 Although I think you surprised him!
I hope TC laughed as hard as I did!
LOL! I wish! I'm afraid that my eye candy for the ladies days are long gone!
Great find!
3:23 Which way did he go? Which way did he go? Or maybe I should just ask, where's the damn fire hydrant?
Raw Story — Too bad that Zimmerman can't be charged again! What a gutless wonder that he didn't even show up for his wife's perjury guilty plea. I hope a civil trial takes Zimmerman to the cleaner's — although 100% of nothing is still nothing.
NY Times — Let's hope that the Democrat candidates are strong enough to beat the the ultra conservatives. I agree it would be awesome to see the look on McTurtle's and Graham's faces if they were so defeated.
Blue Oregon — According to this, I make about 55% of what I should! Interesting tool
Cartoon — The day that set Europe on fire, which eventually spread to the rest of the world.
France and Britain had agreed to come to Poland's aid should Germany attack. When Germany ignored their deadline to withdraw from Poland, France declared war on Germany and shortly after, so did Britain.
And that was that! Canadian troops were sent to Britain in September 1939 to fight as part of the Commonwealth contingent. The US did not enter the war until the attack on Pearl Harbour 07/12/1941.
Amazing isn't it! WWI was the war to end all wars yet WWII rolls around in 1939, followed by smaller conflicts like the Korean War in 1950, the Vietnam War about 1954 as the French War in Indochina, and on, and on. I remember hearing that in over 2,000 years of recent human history, there have only been about 225 years of peace. Sadly, we are a disagreeable lot!
And now it appears we are about to enter another one!
I built a net over the hydrant! 😉
He can be charged wityh civil rights violations in federal court and can be sued civilly.
Amen!
Thought you'd enjoy that.
Indeed we are. Sadly, too many, like Republicans, refuse to shate the sand-box.
The prosecution did a very poor job. This should have been brought out in his trial, to reenforce the amount of anger he had to the jury.
I hope the teabagger beats him in the Rep. primary. I am planning to campaign for Grimes, the Dem.
I made a bout 30% less than I should have, but the lone male in the office made more, and did the same work. I shared this graphic on Facebook. I hope some of my Rep. friends actually read it.
Wasn't Chamberlin the PM who was accused of doing nothing?
I agree!
Amen and good you you! Kudos!
Good luck!
Yes he was.
How did you do? 5:26
Cop Wanna-be had misdirected anger.
This is the one to watch, I hope he loses…
