Writing for tomorrow, day 56, It’s 82Β° at my desk, so I used the morning to catch op on paperwork chores I neglected.  At best, it’s a one day respite.

Update: The respite didn’t even last a day. πŸ™

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:24 (average 5:35).  To do it. click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NT Times: Gov. Rick Scott of Florida, newly empowered by the United States Supreme Court’s ruling in June that struck down the heart of the Voting Rights Act, has ordered state officials to resume a fiercely contested effort to remove noncitizens from voting rolls.

The program, which was put in place before the 2012 election, became mired in lawsuits and relentless criticism from opponents who viewed it as harassment and worse β€” a partisan attack by a Republican governor on Hispanic and Democratic voters.

I bet I’m not the only one, who is not surprised by Scott’s racist response to the Dred Scott Jr. decision from the fascist five Injustices of SCROTUS.

From MSNBC: Rachel Maddow on Iowa Caucuses

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I’d like to see all primaries held in four successive weeks according to a rotating schedule so no state gets special benefits over others, and to shorten campaign season, with one exception. For the first forty years, Iowa should be last.

From Think Progress: …The very premise of a debate is for candidates to answer tough questions about where they stand on key issues that matter to the constituents they will be tasked with representing. For decades, those debates have been in the form of moderated conversations amongst the candidates, distributed on news networks and overseen by objective journalists. But after suffering two presidential defeats, the Republican Party has had enough: instead, they only want people who are interested in electing Republicans to be the ones asking the questions.

If that’s what Priebus wants, they should choose me to moderate their debates. I’m VERY interested in the future of the Republican Party and their candidates. 😈

  1. Wonderful cartoon!  TC how on earth do you manage in 99 degrees of temperature!  I would be totally flattened, I can tell you.

Rachel Maddow's video on the Iowa Straw Poll and the shenanigans that go on there was excellent and eye-opening – and your idea for a rotating schedule between other states so they could 'go first' is an excellent idea – mind you the 'buying votes' for the straw poll  would still go on!

BTW – did anyone see the Daily Kos today – there is a piece about racists demonstrating outside a place where President Obama was giving a speech, and various bits of frighteningly stupid racism are quoted – including one poor man who insists that

"“He’s 47 percent N****,” shouted Ron Enderle, a 77-year-old Chandler resident who said that he and his son served as Marines and his grandson is currently serving in the Marines."

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/08/07/1229633/-Racists-Go-Wild-Outside-Obama-Speech-in-Arizona

How on earth is anyone supposed to be 47% of any race?  I realise that reason has passed them by – but this is REALLY mystifying.  Now the Far Right can divide 100 by 2 and get 53 and 47!  Is this creative accounting?!

    • Interviewed by local media, one woman said

Obama is ruining American values. He is ruining the Constitution. He needs to go back to where he came from because obviously, he is a liar,” she said. “I am not racist. I am part Indian. Obama’s half Black, half White.”

Not racist?  Ruining the constitution?  Ruining American values?  Mr Obama may not be a choir boy, but the Republicanus/Teabaggers certainly do set the bar high for projection.  Oh, and yes, the woman is racist otherwise she would not have mentioned it!

Some of the shouts at the protest outside the venue were:
      Don't be weak, pipelines leak!

      Joe Arpaio for President!

      Bye Bye Black Sheep!

      Impeach the Half White Muslim!

With the exception of the 2nd half of the first chant, the other three are scary indeed! Obviously they left their pointy hoods at home, but there is no disguising their pointy attitudes that fit inside the hoods!  Arpaio?  POTUS? . . . the Twilight Zone has returned!

      Thanks Pat for the article.

    • I've lived in this apartment for seben years.  This is the worst to date, but that sun has super heated the breezewayt every year., si I guess I'm used to infernal conditions.

It's not creative accounting, it's Gerrymandering..

These days, Republicans actually take off ther hoods when weating their sheets in public.  That article was the first I included in today's Open Thread, which I will post in minutes, but since you guys covered it better than I did, I performed some last minute surgery and replaced that item with one I was saving for more extensive treatment.

  2. 4:24  TC, there`s that damn ditch again!  You poor soul!

  3. Puzzle — 4:24  TC, there`s that damn ditch again!  You poor soul!

NY Times — It doesn`t matter where, what state, if there is a Republicanus/Teabagger governor, there is going to be a lot of voter suppression between now and the midterms.

“The Supreme Court has allowed our secretary of state to start working with our supervisor of elections to make sure our sacred right to vote is not diluted,” (Scott) said.

Yes, such a sacred right to Scott that he is willing to disenfranchise many voters, primarily Blacks and Latinos, and all with the blessings of the SCOTUS Injustices.

These efforts clearly show that the VRA in its non gutted format is still sorely needed!

MSNBC — I guess Iowa feels they need the help of being first at something.  Afterall, they`ve got Steve King in the House and Chuck Grassley in the Senate, so they need all the help they can get!

I agree with you TC that the election process in the US is too long.  All primaries held in 4 successive weeks sounds great!  My guess is that voter turnout diminishes with the length of the campaign.  People generally have short attention spans, and there are other things occupying their minds.

Think Progress — Priebus is a little boy in short pants trying to play with the big boys and he is getting his ass whopped!

Preibus’ remarks reflect a reality that the Republican Party is facing: their platform has become so toxic, the only way to overcome it is to keep it out of the spotlight.

But not just their platform . . . their candidates are toxic too!  One need only think back to the 2012 debates with Oops! Perry, 9-9-9 Cain, Bachmann overdrive, `Let him die` Paul, `Google me` Santorum, `Big Bet` Rmoney etc.  Their candidates don`t help their own cause.  And of course that doesn`t even include idiots like Mourdock and Todd Akin, nor former alumnus Palin.

I`d support you moderating the debates TC.  I`d even buy a ticket to that!

Cartoon — I agree!  RepublicanuséTeabaggers are enough to constipate everything including the economy.  But bud, that cat is peeing, not trying to poop!  Take it from me, a mother of 3 cats who has had to follow a certain little boy around to ensure he poops!

Personal — The cartoon is a nice segue into life with my Primo.  He is doing better after almost 2 weeks on anti-biotics for that abscessed anal gland, twice daily bumb washes etc.  He is no longer constipated but I`ll know later this afternoon if he requires surgery.  Last check up last Sunday, the swelling etc was down by 70%. If he passes this check up, no surgery but I am afraid that won`t be the case.  He`s mad at me right now because he has not been allowed to eat or drink just in case.  I told him to blame the doctor.

    • I hope Primo gets a good report, let us know.  That is one problem that, fortunately, I have not encountered with any of my cats.

    • Yeah!  we were Mashed and then buried together. πŸ™

AMEN!  DOJ needs to get busy!

Thanks, I think more people would pay attentuon.

They need professional spin jockeys moderating the debates to cover up their gaffes on the fly.  Today a Republican Mayor told me he thought the entire OT was literal.  He had fun trying to explain why, if I moved to his suburb, he would not let me own a Canadian.  I thoroughly frustraterd him, while remaining completely friendly about it.

I wahted to display a concept, not a load.

Kudos to Primo, but you know he'll blame you.

  4. Personal Update — Primo is doing well and we have managed to dodge the surgery.  I have to keep washing his bumb and he needs to finish the anti-biotics.  Then we`ll see.  He was very happy to get home and be able to eat, drink and be merry!  He is wearing a cone so he isn`t exactly thrilled with that, but once he is healed, no cone.

  5. TC, I agree with you about the primaries.  And, that Iowa be last for a long while!

I hope the people of Flora-duh are as sick of Rick Scott as the rest of us@

Priebus made a major mistake by appearing with Mika!  She showed what a dummy he is with her facial expressions.

Keeping my fingers crossed for rain for you.  We are under a flood advisory here tonight, since I moved almost to the top of a mountain, I don't have much to worry about.
